It's a strange week for releases thanks to Thanksgiving and (perhaps more important) Black Friday. This means all the major labels are itching to get their big names out there resulting in many albums coming out on Monday instead of the usual Tuesday. And in an even odder move Justin Bieber has a Wal-Mart exclusive My Worlds Acoustic record set to be released actually on Black Friday--a very atypical move--but Bieber can do pretty much whatever the hell he wants anyway. But of course, the teen heartthrob isn't the only superstar putting out a record just [...]
The L Magazine's second annual Northside Festival kicks off tomorrow with a couple hundred bands, gallery exhibits and film screenings taking place at various venues across Brooklyn and Greenpoint through the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday Titus Andronicus , Liars, Male Bonding, Fucked Up, Les Savy Fav, Elvis Perkins in Dearland and others will play the outdoor stage at Barge Park in Greenpoint (all ages). Daily lineups, ticket information and select shows after the jump. Brooklyn Vegan hosts three shows, including ZAZA, [...]
Well, it's almost time for 2nd Northside Festival , during which The L Magazine takes over the Williamsburg and Greenpoint music venues for a few days. The Northside Festival will feature over 300 bands this year. Some relatively big names are playing ( Liars , The Fiery Furnaces , Fucked Up , Polvo ). But what this is really about is the chance to see lots of bands in small venues. It's an indie music overdose. You can get an idea of what it's like by listening to this radio [...]
My homeboys, Raccoon Fighter, are playing a Sounds Like Brooklyn show at Pete's Candy Store with O'Death side project Blood Warrior, who are fucking killer. Have you been to Pete's before for a show? No. Well, the band room is about the size of your bathroom. Make sure you get there early if you want a good spot. Seriously, it holds like 25 people. After that there's a pretty bitchin' party

Blood Warrior - Winter's Day (Demo)(mp3) Blood Warrior ( myspace ) is a side project from Greg Jamie of O'Death , and if that band can best be considered a reckless, moonshine-soaked back porch end-times bonfire blow-out, this one -- for good and ill -- might serve as aftermath. The friends and strangers who haven't staggered away or paired up and fucked off sit circle-round, nursing empties and poking embers, and slap together songs to shield themselves from the dread of daybreak. The strongest moments, among the demos I've [...]
Last night at Union Hall, I saw my fifth Blood Warrior show. After seeing them three times during CMJ, they've come back from an eleven day tour of the eastern seaboard a tighter, stronger band with a palpable joy of playing together- whether that was aided because this was the last day of the tour [...]

[Note] Yeah, I know it's not really a competition, but I can't help but cast it as one. Here is how the Pop Tarts Suck Toasted vs. The Music Slut competition unfolded... I can't think of another year where the day parties were already going on Tuesday. This year there are two big ones to keep in mind. The best part about them is that they are right next door to each other. The first is presented by our friends at The Music Slut and Sneak Attack. The show is at Pianos and features Greycoats (12:30PM), Home Video (1PM), Javelin (1:30PM), T.H. White (2PM), Milagres (2:30PM), Sean Bones (3PM), The Love Language (3:30PM), Fanfarlo (4PM), Keegan DeWitt (4:30PM), Calypso (5PM), Blood Warrior (5:30PM), and Casxio (6PM). While the name Blood Warrior sounds more like a Slayer cover band than indie-folk outfit, the newly formed collective featuring O'Death frontman Greg Jamie, Super Monster's Joey Weiss, and Mirah's Kristin Kellas and Rubin Berger are indeed the latter. And come November 3rd, the New York band will look to emphasis this fact when it releases its debut 73 on November 3rd via EJRC . The two-track release, which includes selections titled "Darling Eyes" and "Sick Won't Let Me Die ", is said to illustrate Blood Warrior's "distinct sound" - as a result, you'll hear [...]

Greg Jamie (frontman of O'Death) has announced a new band called Blood Warrior , which teams Jamie with Joey Weiss (Super Monster), Kristin Kellas, and Rubin Berger (Musee Mecanique, Laura Gibson, Mirah). Part of me actually loves the deceivingly metal-sounding band names this guy gives his acts. Apparently, the debut album from Blood Warrior has recently been finished (no word on an official release date as of yet other than "winter"), but that doesn't mean that the band is just going to sit around and patiently wait. No, they've got a 7" out on November 3rd via Ernest Jenning [...]

I have a band you should know and they are Blood Meridian: but besides a bit of back and forth with them, I don't really have anything "of my own" to offer. So, what is a blogger to do when he wants you to listen to a band? Why, he is to direct his readers to other bloggers that do have insight and media and such things. Its really that easy, just follow these easy steps. Step One: Get contacted by Greg Jamie (of O'Death fame) and have him [...]
Earlier in the year, O'Death frontman, Greg Jamie, talked to us a little about his latest project Blood Warrior . This weekend he sent over a nicely recorded performance video of the project from dogandponymusic.net ... Monday: Goes Cube @ Lit 8:30pm $6 Here it is folks the unofficial last week of summer! Time to get ready to abandon all these out door venues that have soaked us all summer long with free music and return to the dungeons and clubs we are most used to! The darkness is good for us and the booze is better! Start tonight with a little urban metal courtesy of Goes Cube. The show is cheap, loud, and fun, plus you won't get yet unless you sweat a lot! Goes Cube - "I [...]
