"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned." I sat uncomfortably in the confessional. Beyond the wood and iron door, night fell about the cathedral. No parishioners walked the pews. A lone janitor mopped the floors in silent circles. Candles burned in a silent stare of remorse as the crucified form of Jesus stared down at me. A mix of mercy and condemnation in his eyes. I'm not Catholic, but my transgression was so great I had no other choice. To save my music-loving soul, I needed confession. "Yes, my [...]

Yours Until the Bitter End is The Bloody Hollies ' follow-up to the highly praised Who to Trust, Who to Kill, Who to Love which was released in 2007 on Alive Naturalsound . Recognised for their murder-themed blues/rock anthems that remind listeners of the '60s and '70s golden age of rock & roll, the new album still embraces the dark side of raw garage punk, but comes armed with a more eclectic array of songwriting and musicianship. But don't let the touches of organ, violin and xylophone fool you, the band's hybrid of blues and rock & [...]

First off, I'd like to say, "Any band that's influenced by AC/DC, the Devil Dogs and the Stooges is likely to be a friend of mine." Still, tons of bands cite tons of cool influences. My reaction can still end up being "Meh." I'll leave questions like where Bloody Holllies ' fifth release, Yours Until the Bitter End , could be filed (Punk/Metal? Garage? Hard-drinking music?) to you. In any case, there's little in the way of excess here, and nothing in the way of catering to trends. There's lots in the [...]

A band like The Bloody Hollies has never sugarcoated their image. The San Diego four-piece chugs a raw, unpolished garage sound that may take cues from the formative years of rock n' roll, but their tightly wound musicianship ravenously speaks with a genuine tone. In essence, what you see is what you get – fronted by Wesley Doyle's demanding vocal presence, their bar-band rock styling blazes straight-faced power chords, Chuck Berry-like solos, and an ill-mannered charm that would even impress a Stooge. Their loud, impetuous vigor may instantly scream revivalism, but bearing in mind that hybridization in pursuit [...]

Rock 'em sock 'em rock 'n' roll Nearly a decade after their 2002 debut, this Buffalo-born quartet continues to combine the menace of metal, the feral energy of punk rock, the panache of surf guitar (courtesy, perhaps, of their relocation from Buffalo to San Diego several years ago), the non-stop drive of southern boogie and the rough-edges of the garage. Their music is fast and loud and tight, and though the rhythm guitars, pulsating bass and full-kit drumming will assault your body (thanks, in large part to Jim Diamond's ferocious mix), it's Wesley Doyle's [...]

The Bloody Hollies are back with their long-awaited follow-up to 2007's Who To Trust, Who To Kill, Who To Love . Yours Until The Bitter End largely takes an if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it approach, and the quartet's ragged charm remains squarely intact, even when a seemingly errant violin or xylophone creeps into the mix. The record arrives in stores on September 13th through one o the most consistent indie labels in the biz, Alive Records , and will available digitally, on CD or as a very [...]

The Milkshakes - She's Some Kind Of Girl via FoxyTunes Comments: great way to start the week... Les Miserables - vivre avec toi (Eagle) via FoxyTunes Comments: a little Mid 60s Euro Pop. French pop music was so much more palatable when they were just blatantly copying their British neighbors. Black Flag - Revenge via [...]
I have downloaded all episodes of Lost via iTunes. So I have started watching 1 episode a week until the February 2009 premiere. Last night I watch all two hours while my wife watched the Season Finale of Hell's Kitchen . We both feel like it was time well spent together. To tell you the truth I don't watch much television. Right now the only show's I watch are Swingtown and Burn Notice . In a couple of weeks that will be expanded to include Eureka , but Swingtown will be over. Then [...]

The Bloody Hollies are readying the release of their latest long player, Who To Trust, Who To Love, Who To Kill, this January on Alive Records. The first single, "Satanic Satellite" is pure rock and roll filled with loud guitar riffs, spittin lyrics, [...]
