PoPo (Philadelphia, PA) [JAX PICK] PoPo @ Discotheque - God I fucking love the PoPo . The Philadelphia, PA natives and resident indie rock band of Mad Decent will be DJing at Discotheque tonight. Discotheque is a new weekly night happening every Friday at the 740 Club downtown at 740 Broadway. Traditionally nights like these make my skin crawl but the POPO are fabulous and worth the outing. Be sure to get there [...]

Nite Jewel stands built of bass, drum machine and synths, converting the heat of the crowd into energy as they go nuclear without all the messier consequence of things like mutant babies. The rhythms and melodies here are vaguely Afro-Cuban; humid white man's funk in a world of—at best—grey and at worst, light beige. Ramona Gonzalez's and Emily Jane's voices float over the fringes and their beats descend like visitors from planets much more interesting than this one.
It's good to admire Kate Bush. Telepathe knows what's up, and while they're not 'Wuthering Heights' anywhere, the girls throw down a dance number in their 'So Fine' music video. Cross-breed Bush with Dre and a little Byrne and chop until you've got a whole new mutant, and that will make Melissa Livaudais and Busy Gangnes a pair of happy mother fuckers. This interview by Daiana Feuer.
Blue Jungle Really terrific dark 80-s inspired gothic garage rock that successfully manages to make a certain chill to run up my spine for some reason. Top quality songs too. Blue Jungle - Mean Things (mp3)
Dan Collins (who interviewed Polyamorous Affair here) will be DJing their show (also featuring Blue Jungle) tonight at the Echoplex and Chris Ziegler (who interviewed Magic Lantern and Imaad Wasif) will be DJing their show tonight at the Prospector. Will Roky Erickson records be present at both? Statistically likely. More info on both events here [...]
The Polyamorous Affair make bolshevik disco-pop in a mossy compound in Los Feliz and emerge only to teach kindergarten, play shows or get snowed on. They have an album due on Manimal and co-founder Eddie Chacon used to be in a band with Cliff Burton. This interview by Dan Collins.

Here ya go, something for the weekend. It's the March installment of the the Finest Kiss Basementcast. If this is going to become a regular thing, I guess I should get a theme song and some back ground music for the talking parts. A real microphone might be nice too, one of those big foamy ones would be perfect. Maybe I should get some advertisers too. Naah, I kind of like the furnace as my background noise, at least until I sell out. basementcast : download [...]

The last time I checked there wasn't a goth revival happening, well the Sisters of Mercy are back together and Joy Division have never been more popular, but there doesn't seem to be a ton of bands aping that style so much these days. Maybe I'm on to something here, a new goth revival? I doubt it, and in the Lolligags case they sound goth, but certainly don't look goth. Their sound verges towards the synth heavy goth sound, and being from Athens, Georgia, (at least half of them) [...]
