O.1 - The Glass Trees Last night I chatted to Crack In The Road founder Josh about 0.1 and why on Earth he remained under the radar. We both came across him yesterday; he has twenty or so tracks to his name (it was virtually impossible to choose one specific song to feature, they're all so good); he seems to be extremely prolific and yet, by the looks of it, the Australian is yet to be signed up. My aim this morning was to stop the chat and start writing [...]

Blue Mountain Eagle is a band with a tediously convoluted history. Though originally construed by former Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey Martin as the New Buffalo Springfield, they went through a long series of lineup changes during their brief existence, the end result of which was Martin's rather ironic expulsion. A pretty-much-inevitable lawsuit taken out against the band by Stephen Stills and Neil Young effectively barred them from performing under their rather awkward, hand-me-down moniker, so the group took on the name of a newspaper one of the guys had picked up while on tour. What may have seemed [...]

Tweet Until recently I could count the number of modern Italian bands I knew on one finger - that would be Lacuna Coil, which is to say I didn't need any fingers whatsoever to tally up the number of Italian bands I liked. So I wasn't sure what to expect when Amycanbe arrived in the inbox. I was impressed. Started in 2002, their debut album "Being A Grown-Up Sure Is Complicated" got a UK release back in 2007, accompanied by touring and [...]

Let's call it one of the best new jazz albums from 1986. October, 1986. Trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith and percussionist Ed Blackwell rode in a car together to Brandeis University just outside of Boston so that they could quickly record a radio broadcast of 10 Smith compositions, most of which Blackwell never had a chance to hear or read beforehand. The two set up and started to perform their modern jazz in an all-too-rare moment of musical telepathy. And for some reason, the master tapes sat around...

a band called bud off dog days - i am very serious when i say that this is probably one of the best "alt-country" records ever made. // blue mountain site Tags: 60 in 60 , blue mountain , dog days , essential

It starts out like your average indie track with the tap of the hi hat and the organ keys. But where it ends up is no where near indie, and rather in a world of bluesy rock 'n roll. This is kinda refreshing when you find yourself listening to some very similar stuff most of the time. The Delta Rigg s hail from the Blue Mountains. So do Belles Will Ring , Cloud Control , The Maple Trail [...]
Don't know exactly why I didn't post this in the first place...let's see if the links work! The kids are on spring break; we're spending lots of time at the library and the book stores, hanging out, avoiding the cold rain of...hmm...April. A couple of big projects need to be finished soon, too, so there's not a lot of time to write epic blog posts. So we're mellowing out in a folkie kind of way. Harry Chapin - Corey's Coming [...]

Blue Canoe - Blue Mountain Dog Days (1995) This song is my kind of love song! Sweet twanging Americana painting the picture of the outdoorsy-girl's perfectly romantic day: Paddling around the lake, with only the sounds of nature to distract you. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I want to ride with you in my blue canoe. Baby lets go ridin. slippin and a sliding. In my blue canoe.
This is a big week on tour for us. We are excited to give you as much coverage as we can during and after the shows. Blue Mountain was born 15 years ago at the peak of the alt.country movement, the brainchild of husband and wife team Cory Hudson and Laurie Staritt. They put out 5 albums at the workman-like pace of an album ever other year and called it quits. After an eight-year hiatus, the band has been reborn behind a compilation of their "greatest hit" called Omnibus and a collection of new songs called Midnight In Mississippi . A mix of grungy gritty guitar rockers and soft, melodic acoustic pieces, Midnight In Mississippi is a good [...]

Last Saturday's Times placed Jimmy Carter at a lowly number 32 in their comprehensive list of America's greatest presidents (Honest Abe was Top of the Pops, Dubya tied with Nixon at 37). I've always had a soft spot for Jimmy though admit it might be because I find the phrase "peanut farmer turned president" as amusing as Carter's admission to Playboy that "I have committed adultery in my heart many times" . I'm cautiously optimistic that Barack Obama will win today's election but am worried that [...]
