New music from Prometheus Brown "Racist Accident," inspired by Brad Paisley & LL Cool J's "Accidental Racist."
I'm so happy we all survived SXSW. I made us a playlist because we're such troopers, and there are some artists on there that I got to see live during SXSW, like Open Mike Eagle (amazing), Willie Green (phenomenal and has a new album out called We Live In The Future ), Psalm One (awesome and with an album forthcoming this fall from Rhymesayers). But I'm just here to bring you a mix of some nice tracks for your Friday, maybe introduce you to some artists or tracks you haven't heard before, and get you a pleasant soundtrack for [...]
words by Harold Scott Seattle is all smiles right now. Weed is legal and nobody thought Macklemore & Ryan Lewis would be topping the charts with their hit single “Thrift Shop” . Seattle hasn’t reached this big of a status since Sir Mix A Lot made his ode to the derriere back in 1992 . Fast-forward a decade later and the Capitol Hill area is buzzing with music from all genres swarming in a melting pot of aural bliss. As Macklemore holds the torch high for his city [...]
On Sunday, December 9th, DJ/producer Sabzi and MC Geologic, known as Blue Scholars, headlined the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The show featured performances from The Physics, Brothers from Another and Kixxie Siete. See more images from this post.
New unmastered track from Seattle's Blue Scholars, titled "The Decisive Moment." A new song in progress. It’s unmastered, for now, but wanted to share with you all since it’s been a minute. More coming. http://bluescholars.com/new-tr ack-blue-scholars-the-decisive -moment/
After releasing the video for their Cinemetropolis cut, " Anna Karina ", recently, Geologic and Sabzi set off on their Town All Day tour with fellow town (Seattle) artists, Brother From Another and The Physics . While some fans prefer Geo's introspective lyrics and Sabzi's sample-based instrumental rather than the electronic-esque "visual soundtrack" in Cinemetropolis , "The Decisive Moment" finds a middle ground. It gives you that nostalgic Scholars feel while keeping up with where they are currently at artistically. Stream the track below and be sure to catch them on live [...]
BLUE SCHOLARS, BROTHERS FROM ANOTHER, THE PHYSICS ( Hawthorne Theatre , 1507 SE Cesar E. Chavez) The country's best politically savvy, working-class hiphop duo, Blue Scholars, are back in town. The talented pair makes their home base in South Seattle ("the most ethnically diverse zip code in America," they're proud to say) and can make even a rap about riding the bus catchy and poignant. SARAH MIRK METRIC, SHADOWS ON STARS ( Roseland , 8 NW 6th) [...]
New Blue Scholar video, "Anna Karina," from the Cinemetropolis album. Directed by Matt Jay bluescholars.bandcamp.com/a lbum/cinemetropolis
It's not too often that you come across music that paints such a vivid picture in your mind that you feel like a video has been out for that song for months now. "Anna Karina" was definitely one of those songs that passionately told the story of a young actress who was looking to get her big break in the industry only to be taken advantage of those who were in charge. It's as if we can relate to this simple yet lovely tune from the Blue Scholars because on some level or another we all [...]
It's been a little over a year since Geologic and Sabzi released their record, Cinemetropolis , and to be truthful, it took a few listens to really dig the offering from the Seattle duo. Since then, the Blue Scholars embarked on a North American tour with Bambu, Grynch and Sol, released a couple videos , Sabzi discovered he can rap and Geo' released a photo zine with Thignat (of The Physics). To remind you of Cinemetropolis , Sabzi and Geo' released another fresh video off the record. [...]
SF! We've got TWO pairs of tickets to check out Seattle's Blue Scholars at The Fillmore.

We had the opportunity to collaborate with Sound Transit for this song and video, "The Sound," reminding you to ride safely and often on the Sounder train from Seattle to Tacoma. http://www.soundtransit.org/
Seattle duo Brothers From Another have extended summer a bit longer, dropping the video for the ice-cream inspired track "Molly Moons" featuring The Physics' Thig Natural and Blue Scholars' Prometheus Brown. With a little animated touch added to the lead single from the Taco Tuesday EP, the youngin's from the Northwest bring back an urge for ice cream and short sleeves that will likely last another nine months. In case you're late to the party, make sure you download the EP here and check the video out below.
Blue Scholars "Cinematropolis" release party photo by Dave Lichterman Wondering where a certain record might land in KEXP’s countdown of the top albums of the last 40 years ? You’re not the only one. KEXP reached out to some of our favorite Seattle music writers and asked them to predict what records they anticipated seeing in the voter final results. These aren’t personal Top Ten or Best Of lists, but “educated guesses” based on each individual’s expertise in a certain genre as well as his or her familiarity with the musical universe of KEXP. The Seattle, Washington based h ip hop duo Blue Scholars (consisting of DJ Sabzi and MC Geologic) is back with a brand new visual for the heavy banger of a track called Slick Watts . The guys lead us around their hometown Seattle to show the people where to get your food fix from. Check out Blue Scholars' latest music video Slick Watts above and make sure to show them some love on Twitter , enjoy.
The Blue Scholars are in Seattle pretty much all day (unless they are in Bellevue.) Here is a joint to prove it. Considering the SEA's reputation for depression You'd think this would be a solemn ode to rainy days, fish and drowning yourself, but it's actually really upbeat. Cop it off of the Cinemetropolis album.
