The first talking point you'll usually hear about NY's Ollabelle is that they feature the voice of Amy Helm, daughter of the incomparable Levon Helm, drummer, vocalist, and mandolinist for The Band . Several of Ollabelle's members perform in the Levon Helm Band, alongside Larry Campbell , at Levon's weekly Midnight Rambles at his barn/studio in Woodstock. Half of an item has been crossed off of my bucket-list. I'm a monstrous New Order/Joy Division fan, and being able to catch Hooky on the small stage at the crowded Bluebird Theater backed up by a more than capable quartet,the Light, performing "Unknown Pleasures" with a few other nuggets was a tad surreal. I may not have given it a chance to develop. But since the band in question is Amy Helm's NYC roots supergroup Ollabelle I gave it a chance and another and another. The group is composed of five singing multi-instrumentalists hailing from disparate parts of the United States, Canada and Australia. Last night's Foster the People and the Chain Gang of 1974 show at the Bluebird resonated with me on different levels.
