Donald "Duck" Dunn, R.I.P.

Donald "Duck" Dunn, R.I.P. Donald "Duck" Dunn Bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, whose swampy thick bottom grooves anchored many of the classic soul hits from the 1960s, has died at the age of 70. He was on a tour of Japan with his friend and former bandmate in Booker T. and the MGs, Steve Cropper. Dunn, an integral part of the Memphis soul sound as bassist for the MGs, the house band for Stax and Volt records, died Sunday morning after finishing two shows at the Blue Note Night Club in Tokyo, Cropper said in a posting on his [...]

The Blues Brothers Movie still funny, 25 Years Later.

The Blues Brothers Movie still funny, 25 Years Later. Here is a blues humor post from the archives, the "Blues Brothers" movie is still a very funny movie. While not in the same vane as many of my recent post. I have been posting mostly prewar blues in SqueezeMyLemon, that is because that is where I am at right now. Those blues are the ones that shade me right now. That is how blue I am. If you understand what I trying to say. But there is an event that is going on [...]

Belushi and Aykroyd Together Again in Ghostbusters Comic

Belushi and Aykroyd Together Again in Ghostbusters Comic From Buzzfeed : "The Blues Brothers are together again at last in a new issue of IDW's Ghostbusters comic which references the fact that Jon Belushi was the first choice to play Peter Venkman before Bill Murray stepped in." It doesn't reference in the panel above, unless I'm missing the sly reference, but this is a fairly cool easter egg for geeks that think a Blues Brother's reunion taking place in the Ghostbusters' universe is awesome. And yes, I'm one of those people. These were two of my favorite movies growing up. I can't tell you how many [...]

In Memoriam – June 2011

One of the true greats passed away this month: Clarence Clemons, a legend to every Springsteen fan. There are many things which made the E Street Band's sound so unique, but the key ingredients, in my view, were Roy Bittan's keyboards and Clemons' sax. It is on Clemons' shoulder on which Springseen leans on the Born To Run cover, literally and symbolically (and imagine the title track without that orgasmic saxophone build-up). The featured E Street Band song, here in the live version from the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon concert, tells the story of how the E Street Band came together. [...]
