HOORAY! Hooray! It's a public holiday! Today in the UK it's the snazzily titled Early May Bank Holiday, and it looks like the sun has got his hat on too. And while I was rooting around looking for my emergency lagers, a clean pair of shorts, and the matches to light the barbecue, I also unearthed a Bank Holiday playlist I made a few years back, so I thought I'd share. Happy holidays, everyone!

Our friend Phil recently posted this gem while he was prepping himself for his visit to Coachella. I was in the Mercury Cafe when this happened... this fantastic show by Blur. I wasn't in the room where it was taking place though. By Kenny McMurtrie May 01, 2013 The Primavera Sound festival has been around for over a decade in Barcelona and is now in its second year in Porto. Offering a consistently high level of acts from around the world it is also an important platform for acts from Spain, Portugal and Latin American countries, proof of which is seen this year with such acts as Blur, Bob Mould, Dinosaur Jr., Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Woods rubbing shoulders with The Suicide [...]

Our intrepid, heat-resistant reporters spanned both weekends of this year's Coachella to bring you a look at the (no exaggeration) epic music festival from the comfort of your own laptop. While the bros and the... let's say "overmedicated" crowds can sometimes be deterrents to enjoying the weekend, ultimately, you're there for the music. And there is something for everyone. Here are our highlights, with special thanks to Doug Levy, Liat Kriegel, and Dan Busta . Jonsi of Sigur Ros. Photo credit: [...]

Coachella’s line-up this year hearkens back to the past—not the old past, but my past, to the bands that were popular when I was in high school. To keep in the spirit of things, I’ve reviewed all of Friday’s bands as I might have done in Freshman English at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa. Today’s format? All haikus! Coachella Security Pat me down just once? Why not twice? Now I've lost my fucking sunglasses. [...]
Peel back the surface and look past the picturesque valley backdrop. Forget about the gorgeous, sun-kissed young folk wearing next to nothing (or, on occasion, nothing). Go ahead and ignore the ridiculous hippie art splattering the landscape. Once you get past everything that suggests Coachella is a legit wonderful place, reality sets in. You're in hell. Everything pretty or fun is undercut by a physical reminder that you're in the desert, and the desert is no place for human life. Read More...

Blur 's strong performance at last week's Coachella festival has resulted in a last minute headliner swap-out with the Stone Roses at the second leg of the event this weekend. It probably didn't help that most festival attendees didn't have the slightest clue as to who the Stone Roses actually were, reports from their set indicated a very thin crowd. Both camps have been silent on the changeover but you can be sure that Ian Brown will be mouthing off about it sooner rather than later. [via Rolling Stone ]

The second weekend of Coachella looks a lot like the first weekend — except for Friday night, when Blur [pictured] and the Stone Roses flop set times. The switch in set times had nothing to do with the Stone Roses' lackluster performance last Friday: The night was planned as a co-headlining situation all along. Sunny Afternoon - The Kinks Well, it was actually cloudy. Bad start. It was Sunday though, yesterday in fact. And I was lazing. Full on. Pants off. Couch on. Watching The Masters on TV. Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera battling it out for the green jacket. It's about half three in the afternoon. Tired enough [...]
