The Bamboo Orchestra is back after the long break, and what a better time to come back than the Halloween night, with a new Midnight Mix? This is part 2 of my annual Halloween mix, (you can view part 1 here). The overall mood is: dark, sinister and mystical. Various tones throughout the mix, ranging from German IDM to horror movie score. Most of the five tracks are wordless, with the exception of the closer, a haunting classic from Cibo Matto. For a setting, think of an empty, winding road. Dark clouds rolling above. The clapping [...]

I grabbed all oldies today, and it was good. Here are some choice selections from today's menu... Nigo - March Of The General Ape Sounds 2000Big orchestral samples + fat breakbeats + killer scratching + Planet Of The Apes samples = most excellent. "Damn you all to hell!!!" David Holmes - Rip Rip Out Of Sight 1998I've been on a Holmes kick, so this got aired today. What a great funky groove, and

You know that feeling when a certain song just hits a certain nerve and nothing else will satisfy? Most of the time, just one dose will do. However, every once in a while, there's those moments where the melody clicks so well in your brain that you need to just hear it one more time...or maybe two more, three more times? Or maybe you don't want it to stop at all and you rock the 'Repeat 1' button for 20 minutes? Well, in honor of those moments, I've compiled an 8-track of my most repeat-worthy tracks. [...]
Check out the coolness of these MP3s (if you were discovering the many styles of dance music being developed during the 90's) all from The White Noise Revisited MP3 blog. Well nice. In depth writing about each track too. Which is what people want you know? Here ya go... Thanks hype machine PFM - One & Only The Chameleon - Links Spiral Tribe - D.J. Nasty [...]

The phenomenal Darla label has just released an expanded reissue of an electro-pop classic by Toronto's own I Am Robot And Proud ( Shaw-Han Liem ). This reissue contains The Catch , Liem's debut full length CD, and Spring Summer Autumn Winter , an EP released in 2002. For you fans of "pixel pop" it can't get any better than this. Liem produces beautiful instrumental music by combining electronic and organic instrumentation. The music is very suggestive of Kraftwerk's mechanical sound combined with Boards Of [...]
So I'm just going to pretend that my pathological inability to meet girlpants deadlines has a certain charm to it, that I'm the blogging equivalent of fashionably late. I'm pretty sure Ben wants to fire me but that corporate fat-cat is gonna have to go through the union first. Haha yea take that you corporate fat-cat! Um, here are my top ten records of 06. Nothing too shocking, but I'm definitely of the belief that it's always a good year for music and this one was no exception. I feel like fucking Alfred Russel Wallace here, but I [...]

Winter break, we hardly knew you. The upside of supreme lethargy and/or lack of productivity is that I got to hear a substantial amount of music. I primarily shuffled, but the full albums that I listened to (and scrobbled) are represented above (and below). More of the Notwist can be found in the set I posted, as well as in last week's update . Many thanks to Bushwick Is Beautiful for the introduction to Masha Qrella ; although tracks are no longer available there, you can stream a [...]

My favorite tracks from 2006 which were NOT present on my 2006 Album or EP lists. So basically this means these are my leftovers from dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Kapeesh? The first set may contain some picks that may seem like odd ball selections coming from me...But you know sometimes I have to stir things up a little, keep you all on your toes. ;-) Some files will only be available for a couple of days, then I am yanking them. If you like what you hear then go out and support the [...]

11. The Shins - Phantom Limb [...]

Professor Gunther Von Hagen creates a controversial macabre hybrid of art and anatomy, using a technique called plastination to hold organs and corpses in a life-like state. He replaces body fluids and fat with plastic, halting decomposition and preserving the subjects as they are. His Body Worlds exhibitions and public and televised autopsies have caused outcry all over the world: being labelled pornographic, immoral and borderline psychotic. Both the Catholic and Protestant churches declared that his exhibit was a breach of ethical and moral values, [...]
Horrors! My employer, it seems, has blocked access to YouTube. This is absolutely traumatizing, and ironic, since our yet-to-be officially launched blog just ran a feature on the company a few days ago. I'm totally bummed about this. I can't figure out why they still have access to various other sites up, but not this one. Ah, the vagaries of corporate IT. So, no more video posts from me during the workday, unless they're on another service, I suppose. Out and about: Via Warped Reality , news that the retro international pop-obsessed La Lalique [...]
