Last night The Avett Brothers were the musical guest of choice for Jimmy Fallon and they brought along an excellent sounding cover of Bob Dylan's "One Too Many Things". The cover appeared on the Amnesty International compilation that features tonnes of talent playing Dylan covers including QOTSA, Cage The Elephant and Silversun Pickups. More information on that release can be found over here but right now you can check out the Avett Brothers performance at the top via The Audio Perv .

This past week the Critic's Choice Movie Awards presented Martin Scorsese with the Music + Film Award for all of the amazing work he has done over the years for music-documentaries. There to help honor him, was one time documentary subject, Bob Dylan . Scorsese has created a connection between his movies and music like no one else has. The music is not just filler, but has an important role to play in the story Scorsese is trying to tell. It expresses feelings that no amount of dialogue or cinematography ever could, [...]

A true human jukebox if there ever was one, songwriter/producer Oliver Ignatius is the mastermind behind the ever eclectic Ghost Pal. The project starts with a rock 'n' roll template and finds strength with deep roots in old school soul and R&B. Things aren't textbook here, though, as elements of psychedelia, funk, and garage rock all find their way into the fold. Not only is Ignatius a prolific songwriter and bandleader, he also runs Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen where he engineers and produces records, too. Simon recently had the chance to interview the busy Ignatius about everything from Ghost Pal [...]

Texas-born, Oklahoma bred singer-songwriter Jimmy LaFave is a regular on the Northeast festival circuit; I've managed to catch his act many times in the last two decades, on main stages and side sets, and I've never failed to be impressed. But that first time was a revelation, serving as a potent introduction to the crossover country/folk Red Dirt subgenre, and - more significantly - to the historically-grounded poetry and achingly vivid performance of a folk artist who remains one of the most respected songwriters and interpreters in his field. LaFave isn't a melodic [...]
Alex Ebert's dedication to writing music showed no signs of slowing down in 2011. Having wowed us with THAT Magnetic Zeros album and resurrected Ima Robot recently he also found time to release his solo album named simply 'Alexander'. Recorded in his off time from touring this album sounds like the stripped down extension of [...]

Filed under: News Kevin Winter/Getty Images Bob Dylan honored director and fellow blues enthusiast Martin Scorsese with a performance last night at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. The movie maven was selected as the evening's Music + Film honoree. Dylan took the stage to perform 'Blind Willie McTell' in a voice that sounded like melted gravel. At the Critics' Choice Awards last night, Martin Scorsese won the second annual Music + Film award for his music documentaries. And to pay tribute to his fellow American genius, Bob Dylan rolled through to perform a Cookie Monster-voiced version of his 1983 relative obscurity "Blind Willie McTell." Marty's oh-shit-what's-Bob-going-to-do expression is simply magnificent. Watch the performance below. Read More...

Dylan salutes Martin Scorcese with a performance of his 80's classic.

At last night's Critics' Choice Awards, legendary director Martin Scorcese was presented with the Music + Film Award for his music documentary work. Scorcese was also serenaded with a performance by Bob Dylan (who was featured in Scorcese's 2005 documentary No Direction Home ). His first television performance in nearly a year, Dylan delivered a powerful rendition of "Blind Willie McTell". Check out the replay below (via TwentyFourBit ).

Bob Dylan is a funny dude. While his material itself is undeniable, the inspiration and desire behind his seemingly endless road show is often called into question. Sometimes Dylan looks uninspired and seems like he wants to be somewhere else. Other times, he is on; and when he is on, he is on - even at the ripe old age of 70. These days, he isn't doing much guitar playing; opting primarily for the harp and the organ - but he has surrounded himself as always with a killer backing band that gets what he is all about at this [...]
