Just when we episodically forgot about the lovely Joan Osborne, we are sent a link to some great news. The "One Of Us" singer is ready to give the world more music and more covers, which is what she is well-known for. This time her new album Bring It On Home , is a collection of blues classics. The first single is now out on iTunes. It's called "Shake Your Hips." Let's hope it packs the punch! Filed under: Beats , Yankee Panky Tagged: arts , Arts and Entertainment , bob [...]

The January release holds a special place in the ebb and flow of artistry; though it runs the real risk of being forgotten by the time it comes to make our year's end lists, it also finds the market just gearing up again after a spate of holiday absence and Christmas releases. Thanks to tip-offs and promos from the usual sources, our fresh eyes have spotted three albums - each one due to drop this month, all well worth watching for - plus a few bonuses on the event horizon. As always, read and click for [...]

Longtime Everybody Taste favorites Luna have digitally remastered and released the LPs Romantica, Rendezvous and the 2002 EP Close Cover Before Striking over on Bandcamp . Word on the street is the band may even try and repress a few of these classic records onto vinyl (we've got our fingers crossed over here). If you're a fan of the band's dreamy and mesmerizing pop music, former bandmates Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips have also been keeping busy as the duo Dean & Britta with the acclaimed and spectacular 13 Most Beautiful: Songs [...]
Recently dropped via the label Collective Sounds , here's a track from a new covers EP spearheaded by reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. The EP's title is Sacred Fire , and the track featured above was, of course, penned by Mr. Bob Dylan. From what I understand, this EP is the first thing the guy has dropped since '04, and it's teasing toward a full-length album titled Existence that should be out sometime this year.

Los Angles shredder and songwriter extraordinaire Blake Mills—whose 2010 record Break Mirrors inspired the creation of our own Analog imprint—has been keeping busy touring with and opening for Lucinda Williams, playing shows with his former bandmates in Dawes, and recording a few exceptionally sharp covers with fellow musician (and girlfriend) Danielle Haim . Over on Mills' new website , you can snag an ace rendition of The Beatles' "Come Together," which features some killer guitar and percussive work by the pair. For Amnesty International's Chimes of Freedom compilation—which features 76 Bob Dylan [...]

Diana Krall - Simple Twist of Fate (Bob Dylan cover) (Audio via Direct Current )

Teaming up guitar-savant Blake Mills , with the wonderfully rustic vocals of Danielle Haim (of incredible LA based band Haim), and have them cover the one-and-only Bob Dylan; seems like only the stuff dreams are made of. Well, think again cause this dream collab-cover is real, and part of Amnesty International's compilation, Chimes Of Freedom . The cover is wonderfully meandering and perfectly warn-in like the old trail you take down to the creek. Blake's guitar work is stunning (as we've come to expect nothing less from him) and Danielle's vocals add a perfect amount of lift to [...]

by Polly Bresnick I'm half Jewish, half Christmas. Jew-ISH. My family lights the menorah when we remember to, usually uncertain of which night we're on, and we mumble out the prayer that even my father barely remembers, with a crescendoing finale of SHALL HANUKKAH! Or is it with a "Ch-"? Does it have an "h" at the end? (I'm barely "culturally Jewish," which is to say that I'm not really religious at all.) In grammar school I learned that, for Hanukkah, kids traditionally received eight presents — one on each of the holy, candle-lit nights. Also, [...]
Various Artists - Chimes of Freedom - Massive 75-track box set of Bob Dylan covers is also, appropriately, an equally massive charity album benefiting the human rights activism of Amnesty International, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization ...an impressive array of contributors, from My Morning Jacket to Steve Earle to Lucinda Williams, from Sting to Mark Knopfler to Diana Krall, from Elvis Costello to Sugarland to Pete Townshend, all come together for a diverse -- and occasionally head scratching (Miley Cyrus?) -- collection of Dylan compositions // Release : Chimes of Freedom: The [...]

by Ben Greenman Phil Ochs was born five months before Bob Dylan and died sixteen months before Elvis Presley, and that tells you all you need to know about him, and that tells you nothing. Ochs was an earnest activist, and a rebel, and a satirist, and a town crier, and a crack-up. He built and dismantled personae with such rapidity that it's sometimes difficult to find the real person who, in theory, provided the foundation on which those personae were built and dismantled. Born in Texas, raised in Ohio, gifted musically and culturally omnivorous, [...]
This normally sombre musical hero is not someone who is typically associated with Christmas or Christmas cheer, but he's riding high in the MUZU.TV Christmas Video Chart, at number six. Bob Dylan's Must Be Santa features a raucous Christmas Party, that I hope your whole festive season is like. Enjoy! Bob Dylan - Must Be Santa on MUZU .

Here is a video of golfer John Daly wearing white pants and an American flag sports coat and performing Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" in Thailand for guests of the Thailand Golf Championship. He was clean, sober, and yes, your guess is as good as mine. [via theawl ]

Phil writes: There's not a lot of Dylan on YouTube, not for want of trying but they usually get pulled. This is a live version of one of my favourite tracks from 'Street Legal' which to me represented a definite return to form when it first appeared.

There are the essential albums that need to be in everyone's collection. There are the personal favorites, the ones that aren't highly acclaimed but still get played every once in a while. And then there are the albums that you stick in the back of your collection because you want to forget that you spent money on them. "Own It or Disown It" gives the writer the opportunity to look at such discarded albums and determine if they are diamonds in the rough or if they deserve to be used as mini-frisbees. [...]
Fans of the Bob Dylan cover version are in for a treat next month with the release of Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International , the slightly awkwardly titled four disc tribute album. Featuring a variety of artists from Queens Of The Stone Age to Adele, you can sample the 76 tracks below. The first two CDs are only snippets, with the latter two available in full. No, we're not sure why either.

Two weeks a few friends and I sat a table over from Ke$ha in a New York City bar, anxious to see some of the self-proclaimed sleazy popstar's antics in the flesh. Unfortunately (?) she was just as normal as you and I. Little did I know that she was sitting on this Sleazy 2.0 track, enlisting a slew of some of rap's best. And then from the left field, Ke$ha decided to cover Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice, It's Alright for Amnesty International . Check out streams for [...]
