Bob Mould, Horseshoe Tavern, Mar 1 Ear-shredding in the most spacious of venues, I can only imagine how Bob Mould 's guitars are going to strip the paint off the walls of the 'shoe. Whitehorse w. Daniel Romano, Massey Hall, Mar 2 I'm usually very wary of couples who rock play together. But there's no denying the strength of Luke Doucet and Melissa McLelland as Whitehorse . ...also this week: Continue reading »

Hi! Hello! How are you? Do you remember me? Do you remember this website? Do you remember a time when people visited websites that weren't owned by some social conglomerate or were simply collections of content originally posted by other websites that also posted collections of content? Do you remember accessing these websites on actual computers, instead of sentient telephones? Well, anyway, I'm here now again, and I'm really glad you are too. I started doing this show over 11 years ago, before podcasting was even a thing. It's been six months since my last show, which is [...]

"Sam Page is an independent singer/songwriter who creates guitar-driven pop/rock. After performing at scores of open mics and home-recording several songs, Sam formed a band in 2011 and did twenty gigs in southern California. He then released an EP (Waiting for Another Spring) in April 2012 that earned an encouraging amount of praise. Sam's first full album BREACH was released digitally in January 20133. Sam Page`s voice has an oblique, poppy sensibility that sounds and feels 100% melancholy free, his vibrantly upbeat Indie-Pop is an [...]

The 12th Annual SF Sketchfest Comedy Festival is currently up and running at venues all across San Francisco. Comedian Jon Glaser of Adult Swim's Delocated is one of the acts performing during the two week-plus event. Last week, Glaser called in a favor from Hüsker Dü's Bob Mould , who joined the comedian onstage to sing through a voice-modulated ski mask during the Delocated Witness Protection Variety Show. Before that all went down, though, Consequence of Sound roped the pair into chatting about their recent collaboration on Mould's video for [...]
A kind word on my Quietus piece from Bob Mould : nedraggett : Seriously, my brain is melting. He’s only one of the few people out there who’d even HEARD anything Shields et al were doing these past twenty years. Ned’s write-up and first thoughts on the new MBV for The Quietus are pretty solid.
As the Twin Cities music scene grows, more and more artists are creating music that demands our attention. Combine the music with talented filmmakers locally and beyond, and you have a fruitful m...

Sam Jones She & Him are not a band given to mystery. Despite the anonymous name, everyone knows it's Matt Ward and Zooey Deschanel and their sugar-sweet old-timey country-pop sound is pretty well-established at this point. And if you're at all surprised that their third album, announced yesterday as coming May 7, is called Volume 3 , then you really haven't been paying attention. But residents of the Greater Toronto Area looking at the tour dates that accompanied the announcement can be forgiven for scratching their [...]

Bob Mould's terrific 2012 album Silver Age opens with three flawless tracks - "Star Machine," the title track, and "The Descent" - none of which are especially lighthearted, but now two of them have been paired with legitimately funny videos. " The Descent " clip featured Bob as a corporate-drone-turned-off-the -gridster; the new "Star Machine" clip finds Mould's band participating in the First Annual Bring Your Kids To Work Day - except that drummer Jon Wurster has just received some devastating news: Karen wants a divorce. In real life, that would be some seriously harrowing shit to deal with, [...]

A few weeks ago, some believed that the Mayan Long Count Calendar would represent an end to the human race, with large beastly demigods destroying the planet Earth and its inhabitants. Thankfully, not true. However, what if the end was nigh? Would you have been pleased that the songs of 2012 made you dance with joy before being eaten by Quetzalcoatl? Would you kick rocks and wait impatiently for doom knowing that you would never-ever have to listen to Mumford and Sons one more time? Or would you moon over the albums that you would miss in 2013 as the [...]

When I listen to things that i come in via the internets or that I pick-up myself in the store i look for a few things in a band's music. Firstly does if sound rings authentic in a way that I'll want to come back to it or does it just fall flat? Secondly does it have a freaking hit or a stand-out track. If there are no instant tunes it's a looser but if I am in another room and come running back to my desk wondering what that song was I flag it with some random number [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]
2012 left me a bit blah. I'll always find at least 5 great albums in any year that trips me out and will be listened to for years to come. The top 10 i've listed here to me I feel they've hit it right out of the park. You may have noticed that i haven't blogged much about new [...]
