Tweet After moving to SF in 2009, Bob Mould , rock legend/DJ/remixer/author (whose autobiography See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody comes out June 15), reached out to Chris Xefos, producer/engineer/musician/wri ter, about starting a bimonthly DJ night. That party is Distortion+ , which features the duo spinning "the sounds of loud guitars coupled with melodic songs: indie rock/pop, punk, post-punk, psych, shoegaze…all presented in a relaxed atmosphere so folks can get their (music) geek on while hanging out [...]

Several Hundred smart Noisepop attendees made the wise decision to forgo the Oscars hang out with Ben Gibbard the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Sunday night. It was the last and most anticipated show at the 2011 Noisepop festival. As anticipated, rumored, and typical for his solo shows, Gibbard performed his greatest hits, performed a one-time-only cover, dug way down few deep tracks, and brought out a surprise special guest, and performed a Postal Service track. He also debuted a new tune, the title track from Death [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Jason Kempin, Getty Images When Ben Gibbard took the stage at the intimate and infamous Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Sunday night, it had the distinction of being the last official set of music for this year's citywide Noise Pop festival. For many in the young crowd, it was the only Noise Pop show they caught, but no matter -- despite performing sans band [...]

'Colours' By GROUPLOVE. You turn on the news these days and it's like a montage from one of those Apocalyptic Hollywood movies, possibly starring Bruce Willis , or if you're really unlucky, Jason Statham. It can be quite overwhelming and sometimes you just need to escape, pull the switch inside your head and 'turn on, tune in and drop out' as they say. And that my friends is where music comes in, for the very best music can transport you far from your reality and in doing [...]

Tonight's surprise Foo Fighters show apparently will be their final in the series — at least, that's what I glean from Donna Summer's "Last Dance" being streamed on the band's audio player . Meanwhile, Dave Grohl and crew have spring the "White Limo" video on fans (oh, Lemmy) and announced details of their new album "Wasted Light." Which we dutifully regurgitate: First single "Rope" is out March 1; album out April 12; it's produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder; and it features guest turns from Bob Mould and Krist Novoselic. All things you can [...]
The upcoming unreleased album played in its entirety? Dreams do come true.

Foo Fighters performing their new album, in sequential order, for an audience who dropped everything once Dave Grohl tweeted when and where seems like an awesome marketing gimmick, as well as a truly innovative way of keeping fans at ease until that April 12th release date . In fact, thanks to their two surprise performances, we can now sample seven of the 11 tracks set to appear on the band's still untitled seventh LP. Plus, with another show rumored for tomorrow night, the other four probably aren't too far away. Check out the seven [...]

Last night, for the second straight Friday, Foo Fighters showcased their forthcoming 7th LP during a surprise performance at an intimate Los Angeles club. Below, we have clips of the album opener, "Bridge Burning" ( the one with that badass opening ), and track #3, "Dear Rosemary", which saw the band joined by Bob Mould. Foo Fighters LP #7 is due for release April 12th via RCA. "Bridge Burning" "Dear Rosemary" Foo [...]

What do Keith Richards, Jay-Z, and Bob Mould have in common? At the moment, pretty much nothing; but once the summer rolls around, the former Husker Dü guitarist will join the other two in the club of music autobiographies. Slicing Up Eyeballs reports that Mould's memoirs, entitled See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody , will hit bookstore shelves everywhere on June 15th through Little, Brown and Company. Billed as "a classic story of individualism and persistence," the 288-page hardcover will dive into Mould's "struggles with homosexuality, [...]

Edinburgh does cold, clear, sunny days better than anywhere I remember being. It really is just a stunning day today - the kind which makes me wonder about bunking off this afternoon, getting a coffee and going for a stroll up the Water of Leith. Anyone? Did anyone order the Whitehaus Family Record I reviewed a while back ? I did, and it just arrrived, including a double vinyl album, a 73, two tapes and about a dozen CD-Rs. Bar-gain! That's my weekend's aural pleasure taken care of, then. This weekend we shall [...]

Filed under: News For those still pining for those heady days in the early 90s when Nirvana ruled the world, some good news: Dave Grohl , Krist Novoselic and Butch Vig are working together on the new Foo Fighters record. Butch Vig, of course, was the producer at the helm of 'Nevermind,' while Novoselic, for those who forget, was Nirvana's bassist. Speaking with Zane Lowe on his BBC [...]

The awesome 930 Club here in DC turned 30 on Monday and to celebrate, it had a big ol' birthday party with a bunch of bands who played for free. It was a great celebration of all of the acts that helped put the 930 on the map as a club, as well as a great peek into the long string of bands that that came out of DC, many of whom owe their start in music because of the 930 Club. This history of the club is a great story and one that the Washington [...]
Even though Washington D.C.'s legendary 9:30 Club is now about two miles from its original location, they're still celebrating three decades on the scene by holding two anniversary shows over the holiday weekend. Even better, tickets to Monday's show are free of charge. "We wanted to do something really different," said club co-founder Seth Hurwitz. "We want to be surrounded by people who have made this place special." The venue can only hold about 1200 of those people, and members of the club's online community have the first crack at tickets through a lottery [...]
