Thirty years ago, punk-Dada terrorists Seth "Xerox" Feinberg and "Egg" Al Nidle posted up Clark University's campus with flyers proclaiming, "talentless guitarist and drummer seeking bassist and lead guitarist to form post-punk new wave pop pseudo-psychedelic band." Mike "Doc" Michaud and Kris "Tripp" Thompson replied, and The Prefab Messiahs formed as the agent provocateurs of the Worchester, Massachusetts underground. They denounced Regan-era consumerism and conformity, aiming to revolutionize pop music while simultaneously throwing a "plastic culture" back in its face. Beyond-ironically, they heralding Ronald McDonald and The Pillsbury Doughboy as the prefabricated messiahs of society at large. [...]

Amen Dunes at Glasslands ( more by Benjamin Lozovsky ) Amen Dunes will rev up the reverb at Saint Vitus on August 26th with Bobb Trimble's Flying Spiders , Zomes , and GDFX as part of their record release celebration for the new and haunting psychedelic garage LP Through Donkey Jaw . Tickets are on sale. Through Donkey Jaw was released [...]

god save us dreamers, yr all that's left sometimes / god save you dreamers, yr all that's left in life for anyone interested in underground / outsider music bobb trimble's first two records are one of thee touchstones. a singular vision. song as solipsism. both merged into one. forget walking in his shooze, this's like sliding around inside his goddam skull. aesthetic tendrils you can trace all the way from him to james ferraro and gary war and ariel pink. a sometimes inscrutable mix of mystic and personal, one that requires decoding of sigils and myths [...]
Bobb Trimble was for years a name that has been surrounding me whenever I was talking about psych rock in strange geeky forums. Seems like everyone treated Bobb as best kept secret. It took me a while to get to listen to his music, but once I have - I fell in love. Sort of [...]

On Monday, July 18, I met up with Bobb Trimble and his manager, Kris Thompson, at Zuzu in Cambridge's Central Square. When I walked in, Bobb was seated at the corner of the bar in classic Bobb-attire: an American flag t-shirt, jeans, and a jean jacket. He had a cup of coffee in front of him and was coloring in fliers for an upcoming show at Zuzu. Bobb was excited for the interview. Although he was a little apprehensive at first when I told him I would be recording the interview, once the first question had [...]

Editor's Note: We are nowhere near the wintry months that bring cold weather; it is hot outside, and hearthside storytelling isn't too appealing, nor is it something typically reserved for the blogosphere. Nonetheless, dear friends, if you're really ambitious, stoke the proverbial coals, so to speak, and kick your dogs up onto a pillowy ottoman while I send an intriguing story your way. The year is 1983, and Massachusetts psych-pop-rock-punk-kitchen sink extraordinaire, Bobb Trimble, is walking the streets of Worcester with two records tucked away [...]

Where do I start with a review of Bobb Trimble 's The Crippled Dog Band ? Like a thousand reviewers before me, I have to start with Bobb's vocals. It feels like the easy way out but there really is no other place to begin. Bobb sounds like the bastard child of the Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra and Rush's Geddy Lee. Yes, really. Apparently there is such a thing. Oddly, the music itself is something of a hybrid of those two bands, if you can imagine it. On the one hand The Cripple Dog Band [...]
This fall the elusive Bobb Trimble will make two rare live performances in his home state of Massachusetts. For years, Bobb Trimble's two albums, Iron Curtain Innocence, and Harvest of Dreams were the stuff legends were made of, psych-rock records so rare that even Keyser Soze would have a hard time finding one. We here [...]
Here's a phenomenal, classic private press LP that has been on my "want" list for some time now. I bought a really nice hand-numbered European re-issue last year at the WFMU Record Fair from the godfather of private press records, Paul Majors. The brilliant minds at Guerssen have since re-issued the quintessential UFO-inspired masterpiece, giving it the proper restoration and packaging that it deserves: originally intended cover art, gatefold cover, in-depth liner notes by Douglas Mcgowan and never-before-seen photos capturing some of the mystique of the album. It's a little too polished for me to call this a [...]
Pearl Harbor is Piper and sister Skyler on guitar with Cody on bass and Cole from Haunted Graffiti at the boards for their new EP Something About the Chaparrals . If there ever appears a midnight rainbow between Birmingham and Maui, they will calmly accept it as a sign acknowledging their place and presence in the universe. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
Releasing two great underappreciated records in the early 80s (private press – real lo-fi), there is no one quite like Bobb Trimble in the world of rock n roll. His vision is very deep, personal, and absolutely original with a strong outsider, late night feel. While his music was totally out of sync with the [...]
Swan Fungus reader / contributor Ben still has swine flu. Here's hoping him a speedy recovery so that I we can read all about how much Sufjan Stevens SUCKED at ATP this year. Two Boots Night Tripper pizza, you make every meal feel like an orgasm. I'm trying to cut back on my pizza/cheeseburger intake these days, but I don't mind eating unhealthily tonight as Kasi commented today that I looked "different" before realizing that I've lost a considerable amount of weight this month. Oops. It's hard to remember to eat food. Two Boots plus LOST [...]

I was only able to go to the second night of the Homegrown Fest at Church but I'm OK with that. You know why? Because that night had one of the best lineups I've ever seen. Fucking ridiculously awesome. Because so many bands played and I could easily write a whole review for each set, I'm just going to post the pictures I took coupled with what I wrote on Twitter immediately after each performance. There are more photos on my Flickr page if you're into that sorta thing. [...]

Taken from the Acid Archives, as reviewed by Aaron Milenski: "There is no album I own that has as much emotional complexity and depth as HARVEST OF DREAMS. Bobb Trimble's previous album, IRON CURTAIN INNOCENCE, is of equal musical value, but HARVEST OF DREAMS is the one that exposes all of his inner demons, all of his hopes and all of his joy. Everything about this album, from the strange album cover to the name of his publishing company, can be interpreted in multiple ways, and every listen to the record reveals new nuances. How far [...]
Today I'm listening to some old stuff that's new again alongside some new stuff that sounds a bit like old stuff. Mexican Summer 's release of a Bobb Trimble 7-inch reminded me of the Secretly Canadian Trimble releases that came out awhile back. I was shocked to look back and discover that I never posted a damn word about these when they came out, because I really did enjoy them. And going back and listening again now, I can say that I still do. MP3: [...]

The next batch of Mexican Summer releases have shown up on their website and include a subscriber-only 7-inch from Bobb Trimble , featuring this great track that also appeared on one of Secretly Canadian 's 2007 Trimble reissues: Bobb Trimble - "One Mile From Heaven" (Short Version) Also due is a 7-inch (now up for pre-order ) from Farmer Dave Scher, who you may remember from the the great Beachwood Sparks or All Night Radio. And lastly but [...]

It´s surely a mark of genius when you put the following text on the back of your album (and in 1980 at that!): ´Dear John, Paul, George and Ringo, if I´m a good boy and work real hard, may I please be the 5th Beatle someday. Your friend, Bobb.´ Thanks to a recent short but intriguing post over at the Starmaker Machine blog, I recently discovered Bobb Trimble, a typical outsider artist. Wikipedia has a fine definition of outsider music for us. "Outsider music are songs and compositions by musicians who are [...]

Bobb Trimble: One Mile From Heaven I'm on vacation in Lake Winnnneepesauukeee. Bobb Trimble though, one of the best discoveries ever.

Late last year, I stumbled upon the Airwalker EP [ review ] [ buy ] and was immediately drawn to its delicate, surrealistic melodies, intense melodrama and the best Siouxsie and the Banshees cover EVER . On A Place Where We Can Go [ buy ], California's enigmatic [ interview ] dreamweaver Jeremy Jay crafts a debut [...]
