Bobby Bare, Jr. will be hosting a house party tonight. And for once, I actually know where this secret venue is. It's at the Montrose Recording Studio, which is located in the Northside area. No, I will not tell you anything more. Details regarding parking, location, secret password for admission will be granted upon ticket purchase. Get tickets here . It'll be a night of just Bobby and his guitar, and a tambourine on his right foot for an old-time, intimate, performance. Get a ticket and you'll also get a free download of Bobby's [...]
Jay Farrar | Bobby Bare Jr. The Sheldon Concert Hall October 21, 2011 The worst thing you can say about any form of popular music, but rock music especially, is that it is polite. Let it be wi... This video asks a very redundant question. It is redundant because you should obviously make a documentary on Bobby Bare Jr because he is far too awesome to be unknown to a large percentage of the population. You can help make this documentary a possibility by contributing a small (or large) monetary sum. You also get stuff for your money. And if you are not immediately agreeing with my previous statement of 'he is far too awesome', then you must not own Bobby Bare Jr's ' Young Criminals' Starvation League '. Or ' From The End of Your Leash [...]
Eighteen venues, four days, and a whole earful of great of music make up this year's MusicFestNW.

I was able to get pretty much everything I want and was able to record 3 in store performances I will be posting in the near future. According the handy internet source for vaguely accurate information about all things important to its overwhelmingly male contributors , Valentine's Day originated with a Pope or Chaucer . In all events, it apparently started long before Zales, Hallmark or FTD got involved. I imagine the love song is just as old. There's no matching the soul greats like Al Green for straight love songs, but the love song can be a little more complicated than that. For those with an ear for a less conventional [...]

[Chart toppers Superchunk live at Royale, Boston, MA. 9/21/2010. Photo by Michael Piantigini. More here .] Here it is, New Year's Eve, and I'm finally turning in my year-end list. TO MYSELF! As you may have read , El Jefe Jay Breitling will be on hiatus for a few months tending to undercover work for his secret, non-blogging identity and I'll be attempting keep up with the entire universe of music (or at least some subset thereof) for the duration. I appreciate Jay's trust that I won't turn this into some weirdo NFL coach-spouse [...]
The top selling albums (both vinyl & CD lists) at Grimey's New & Preloved Music in Nashville.

In his 44 years, Bobby Bare Jr. has already done a lot. He was nominated for a Grammy when he was just eight years-old, fronted the successful alt-rock outfit Bare Jr. in his 20s and has been making poignant, country-tinged records with his Young Criminals' Starvation League for the past decade. No doubt he's encountered some pretty strange scenes. He recently stopped by LimeWire to discuss his new record, A Storm, A Tree, My Mother's Head , and play a few songs. One of those songs, "Rock 'n' Roll Halloween" describes a surreal scene at an Atlanta [...]
Fortunately, most music industry observers have over the last few years come to realize that Nashville isn't simply a honky-tonkin', Jesus praisin' cocoon of Southern-fried conservatism. This is a good thing, of course, as the shift not only infers that Music City is diverse — which, it most certainly is — but, that the city's artists who don't necessarily bow down to the CMT establishment or the Good Book receive the attention they deserve. One of these artists, in particular, has been overlooked for far too long: Bobby Bare, Jr., the son of vintage country artist, Bobby Bare. For almost [...]
I am finally able to continue this feature after a extended break. My computer was in the shop and I've taken my time getting everything set up again, so this week was the first one I've been able to really add new music to my library. Anyways, on with the post. Bobby Bare Jr. has been rocking the music scene from a very young age. When he was six, he was nominated for a Grammy for a duet with his dad on a song written by Shel Silverstein called "Daddy What If." They lost to the Pointer Sisters, but that didn't get Bobby Jr. down. He's had a prolific solo career since the late '90s, and his fans are true and steadfast. Bobby's now on tour supporting his latest record, A Storm, A Tree, My Mother's Head , and took some time to play us a few songs [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Titus Andronicus w/ Free Energy, Turf War Monday, September 19 The Earl - 488 Flat Shoals Avenue in Atlanta, GA 30316 Admission is $10 ADV / $12 DOS / Purchase Tickets The restless urgency of Titus Andronicus' music and the sprawling anthems it produces have made for some of the rowdiest, most gloriously uproarious noise to be committed to wax in recent years. Despite their cynical and paranoid "us against them" themes, the mood always feels celebratory—a [...]

Bobby Bare Jr. and Blue Giant kicked off the "Carpool America" tour August 24th in Memphis, TN. Blue Giant open the shows and serve as his back up band along with Bare's drummer Matt Martin. The 24-city tour ends in Minneapolis on October 9th. Bare also has dates with Justin Townes Earle and Drive-By Truckers . Bare released A Storm-A Tree-My Mother's Head on August 31, 2010.

I've been uploading / posting LouFest videos like crazy so I didn't get a chance to post some of the new releases that hit the shelves yesterday. To be honest I haven't listened to a single note of this Jenny and Johnny business, party due to fear that it will suck and partly due to a full plate of music. That being said I'm looking forward to I'm Having Fun Now , the debut LP from couple Jenny Lewis [...]

If I wasn't already a fan of Bobby Bare Jr. , I would be now. For his installment in Aquarium Drunkard's Diversions series, Bare discussed the place of politics in music - or the lack thereof. According to Bare, musicians who spout off about politics from the stage (and actors who do their thing, too) are no different than dentists who start waxing political after they've got you in the chair with the sharp objects in your mouth. And why shouldn't musicians just assume that their fans want to hear about their [...]
Wow, it's the end of August, already. That's straight up crazy. Do any of you feel like you lost a summer? Surely, for folks in many parts of the country, the cooler days of late August, and the coming autumn, are welcomed after one of the hottest summers on record. Here in coastal northern California, [...] Related posts:Best New Releases: Stars, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Club 8, Owen Pallett, Tender Trap, Chemical Brothers, Neighbors, Coliseum Five Anticipated Summer Releases, Vol II: SSLYBY, More Arcade Fire, Oberhofer, School of Seven Bells, Admiral Radley In Dee Mail 2010 [...]
