when i saw lucero at an all ages show at the metro last year, i was a little taken back by all the youngsters running around...i'd say the majority of the audience was in highschool, & i hate to say it, but it kind of took me out of the show (granted, we showed up late, & pretty drunk, from an alejandro escovedo gig accross town, but it was still surprising)...anyways, tonight's show with bobby bare jr. is 18 & over at the metro & only $14...although i wasn't that into bare's latest release & haven't [...]

Bobby Bare Jr. is a musician out of Nashville who has been in the business since the age of 5, when he was nominated for a Grammy along with his father, who was a popular country music singer in the 60's and 70's. I just happened to see him perform at a SXSW showcase a few years ago, and I enjoyed it enough to throw down some cash for a cd or two. He tours with a revolving door of musicians, and I've gone to see them a few times when they've come through town, including ACL. Nothing [...]
That's where I'll be, in case anyone cares. Meet me at Slims in San Francisco . Last weekend, I randomly ended up golfing with Tony Labat (a famous San Francisco artist) and the owner of Queens Nails Annex Art Gallery . If you're in SF, you should stop in and see Tony's groundbreaking exhibit. It'll be opened up at 8pm tonight and they promised that it'll be quite a spectacle. Otherwise let's enjoy some good music, courtesy of friends around the web. Listen to that Ha Ha Tonka [...]

Photo credit: a nameless yeast One picture, two EP-length, Lambchop-inspired playlists. What is he trying to say? You decide which one you think fits best. "I'm a Moody Fucker" Obviously the f-word is what captures the eye initially. It reminded me of the excellent Moody Fucker song by Lambchop and the guy in the picture certainly looks a bit grumpy. This is the more pessimistic list that only looks at the message that he is trying to express. [...]
The best of the best. Without repeating an artist, my favorite songs I’ve listened to in 2006, Part VIII. [Part I , II , III , IV , V , VI , and VII previously]. 1. Annuals - Brother (mp3) Explosive. Near-perfect. This song makes me believe the grandiose-ness and intensity isn't reserved for that Arcade Fire troop. 2. The [...]

Many, many good shows coming through town this month. So many in fact that I'll probably have to add to this list over the next few days... Wednesday Oct. 4th: Bobby Bare Jr. @ Continental Club mp3: " Dig Down " Thursday Oct. 5th: Ghostland Observatory @ Emo's mp3: " Piano Man " Saturday Oct. 7th: Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ Stubb's mp3: " Bang " Sunday Oct. 8th: The Hold Steady @ Emo's mp3: " Chips Ahoy! " Tuesday Oct. [...]
Since I mentioned Bobby Bare, Jr. yesterday... Have you heard his latest, The Longest Meow ? Criminally good. 11 members, including My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Patrick Hallahan and Carl Broemel, 11 songs, all in 11 hours. It seems almost planned, and seems to beg for a Spinal Tap reference, but I'll spare you. The album sprawls stylistically, which, in this case, makes for an engaging, unexpected experience. It plays like a really good live in-studio mixtape. [...]
Fall is upon us and September is coming to an end. Fortunately, good music continues to find its way through the region. The week starts off with the beats of Ladytron and CSS finding their way to the 9:30 Club on Monday Night. Tuesday brings Kansas City's The New Tragedies to The Sidebar. Yo La Tengo support their brand new album at the 9:30 Club. Wednesday night is kind of crazy around

Bobby Bare Jr. [and the Young Criminal Starvation League] - Back to Blue (mp3) So I got momentary clearance to share a Bobby Bare Jr. track off his forthcoming release called The Longest Meow [ Preorder ]. News of the recording session made headlines due to massive amounts of beer they consumed during the recording. If you're looking for the brand names from the guests he brought into the studio, the final product is consistently Bobby... no matter how expansive his Young Criminal Starvation League extends. [...]

As I sit here, my desk littered with albums and "to-dos," I feel the following needs to be said, needs to be conveyed upon those who will listen. Shouted to the masses, etc, etc. For at this moment in time I am a messenger of the gospel of Bobby Bare Jr. Now I was a fan of Bobby Bare Jr. prior to this album, but the guy has really gone and upped his personal ante on this one. There was a time when he could have been relegated to [...]
Bobby Bare Jr. is readying his third release with the Young Criminal Starvation League, The Longest Meow. He recorded it in 11 hours back in March with members of MMJ. "Originally, I wanted to do the whole album in an hour," he said. Which... would be one take. Like a "Live! From Nashville Recording Studio!" Anyway, Scott got his grubby hands on a track and shared. It's alright. I'm a firm believer of studios always leaking the least interesting tracks. [...]

Untitled Document In the days when I used to get CD's all the time and didnt have the hastle/blessing of an MP3 player, I would just put a CD in an listen to the whole thing. Now Im constantly looking for the next song to put before the one Im [...]
On March 26th, alt-country singer/songwriter Bobby Bare Jr. recorded his new album The Longest Meow in 11 hours. The core band of Bobby, Carl and Patrick from My Morning Jacket, and co-producer Brad Jones was joined by Carey Kotsionis, Mike...

No secret that MJ and I are big fans of Bobby Bare Jr. and Sr. . March 26, 2006 - 11 people got together for 11 hours and knocked out 11 songs. Bobby and friends knocked out The Longest Meow in one session that he calls " the most fun I have ever had with music in one day ." Bobby Bare Jr. - Snuggling World Championships [...]
