Bobby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart

photos by Toby Tenenbaum Willis Earl Beal had me at his opening line, "I am gonna sing you some songs and then I am gonna get off the Goddamned stage!"...He's a born performer and for the duration of his hour long set, he sang like a man possessed! Think of the vocals of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell on You" and add a whole lot of soul with an addictively entertaining stage presence and you've got Willis Earl Beal. Across 110th Street - Bobby Womack feat JJ Johnson and his Orchestra - The Apple Scruffs Edit - Click to download. The original Bobby Womack jammer is one of my favorite songs of that era. It's a beautiful ode to Harlem that has stood the test of time. The Apple Scruffs do great work on this one. Enjoy.

This edition in the Covered With Soul series might be one of the best so far. Here we have covers of songs better known by Free, The Rolling Stones, The Young Rascals, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Stephen Stills, Bobby Hebb, The Carpenters, Matt Monro, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Bee Gees, The Box Tops, Joe Cocker (covering The Beatles), Gil Scott-Heron, Judy Garland, Frankie Valli, and Nat 'King' Cole. Some of these versions rework the songs so thoroughly, one might imagine they have always been soul songs. Just check out what [...]

Way Out West presenterade i dag två namn som garanterat gör två olika generationer mycket lyckliga: Bobby Womack och Best Coast.

Bobby Womack 's new album, The Bravest Man In The Universe , is going to be very special indeed. Co-produced by [ do action="main-artist"]Damon Albarn[/do] and Richard Russell , the record will be his 26th - and the first since the artist was diagnosed with cancer. This Albarn and Russell re-edit of the eponymous single is one of the most beautiful things I've heard all year, with Womack's remarkable voice sitting atop a delicate, d'n'b-aping drum loop. The Bravest Man In [...]
The release of Bobby Womack 's The Bravest Man in the Universe is fast approaching, so XL Recordings is back at it to release some new material. We have already heard the riveting " Please Forgive My Heart ", but here is a funk version to spice things up. While the track isn't quite as funky as I was hoping, it does shed some new light on the piece. The Bravest Man in the Universe is due out June 12 via XL Recordings.
Vietnam-era soul great Bobby Womack will soon release his new album The Bravest Man In The Universe , which Damon Albarn and XL Records boss Richard Russell produced together. We've already posted the wailing confessional " Please Forgive My Heart " (as well as the title track ), and now here's the song's dancefloor-ready "funk" version, which comes with drums that owe more to circa-'90s rave. It's been many years since Bobby Womack has released a solo album. Mostly, in recent memory, he's come back into the public consciousness due to guest spots on Gorillaz's Plastic Beach and The Fall Perhaps this collaboration helped inspire Womack to return to making music of his own, because this year he's making a comeback with The Bravest Man in the Universe, coming out in June. One of the first announced tracks from the album is the title track, which is a wonderful return to Womack's signature soul sound. Things begin [...]

Save for the occasional left-field appearance, a year ago many would have assumed Bobby Womack's career had essentially wound down. The soul mastermind is, after all, battling colon cancer. It seems the omnipresent threat of mortality made for serious inspiration, as Womack is returning with his first full solo LP in what's nearing twenty years. Look out for The Bravest Man in the Universe on June 12th, and check out the title track below.
