Friday, March 9, 2012 Today's Quick Mention: Heads up! Until SXSW is over (3/18), don't expect any new content around here. Today is it. The festival will now consume us all. We love you. Pray we are able to return. Five new songs to remember us by. Enjoy. : Eternal Summers - Heart Squeeze : I've never heard this track, but apparently it's from an EP that this Virginia-based duo [...]

Bobby Womack is back with his first record in twelve years, on the trailblazing juggernaut XL Recordings , no less. Produced partly by Damon Albarn (whom Womack worked together with in 20102s "Stylo" video). It's a little strange to hear his iconic voice soundtracked by buzzes, clicks and glitchy little electronic fidgets, but the soul is there. Really excited to hear this one dropping June 11th.

In the beginning of Bobby Womack's "Please Forgive My Heart" he sings "I can try to say I'm sorry, but that won't be quite enough to let you know that I feel," his gravely chords resonating like a worn saw trying to cut through. The first single is off his new release The Bravest Man In The Universe produced by Damon Albarn (Gorillaz) and Richard Russell. Albarn's style bubbles familiarly of Plastic Beach with moving piano progressions broken up by chirps, hollow bass thumps, and sharp hi hats. If the albums is anything like this track, this will [...]

By Stephen Dobrinich Saying Bobby Womack has got soul is like saying Jordan is going to post big numbers if you put Ehlo on him in single coverage. See game 5 in the first round of the 1989 NBA playoffs. In the spirit of His Airness, Bobby brings it on 'Please Forgive My Heart' the first track released from his upcoming Damon Albarn co-produced album 'The Bravest Man in the Universe.' So whether you're cooling it at home, or you're getting set [...]
First taste of The Bravest Man in the Universe .
First things first, that's the most haunting album cover I've seen in a minute. Does this mean he's double-jointed? I thought being "double-jointed" was just something cool to talk about in like 3rd grade - but this dude is proving me wrong. Doctors, my med school audience, if you could let me know what the fuck is up with his thumbs that'd be much appreciated. In other news - this song needs way more attention. Bobby Womack's life-altering vocals in combination with that vicious snare is almost too much for me to handle. Look for his album The Bravest Man [...]

How about some broken-hearted soul for your evening (or morning, or afternoon or night), from the legendary Bobby Womack. He has a new record, The Bravest Man In The Universe , out in June and there is a lot to be excited about. Firstly, it was produced by Damon Albarn and Richard Russell (head of super-label) XL Recordings, secondly it's his first full record of new material since 1994, thirdly it features Lana Del Rey (yes this fantastically experienced musician must think she's alright) and finally "Please Forgive My Heart", which is our first taste [...]

An attempt to illustrate just how occupied Damon Albarn is, if somewhat indirectly: Although an industry prominent figure since the 1970s, the impassioned soul singer Bobby Womack was experiencing a career drought until Gorillaz resurrected his career by offering him a slot as the most frenzied vocal interlude of recent times. This is no hyperbole, since after singing the take you hear in the final version of 'Stylo' , Bobby passed out. 'Nuff said. In a similarly forward-thinking fashion to his innovative production work with [...]

With Bobby Womack resurfacing on the Gorillaz 's Plastic Beach in 2010 after what seemed to be a long hiatus, was a clear indicator of an artist exploring different sounds. The 69-year-old legend will be releasing his 12th studio album on XL Recordings , the same label Gil Scott-Heron last recorded on, and this will be his first solo release in twelve years. " Please Forgive My Heart ," a free download below, is [...]

Here's the first listen to legendary soul singer Bobby Womack 's new album The Bravest Man In The Universe produced by Damon Albarn & Richard Russell, out June 12 on XL Recordings. Really looking forward to that album after "Please Forgive My Heart." Listen below: Bobby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart

Please forgive my heart, not that the problem lies anywhere in there. I'm a liar, I'm in a dream going my way nothing to rely on..." Damn Bobby Womack, you just reminded me why I got into music in the first place... These days an old school artists releases an album and like clockwork it seems to be dead on arrival. That's usually because theres nothing new about it, simply just someone from the past making music that sounds like it's well, from the past. Being a great song writer has nothing to do [...]

By far, the stand out performer on the newest Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach , was Bobby Womack. His vocal stylings on "Stylo" immediately made the track memorable and made you want to sing soul at the same time. So it makes sense that Womack and Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn would get together and work on an album together. Womack's new album, The Bravest Man In The Universe , is out on June 12th and was produced by Albarn. Down below you can sample what the album will sound like. [...]

And now Womack is about to come out with a new solo album called The Bravest Man In The Universe , his first studio effort since a 2000 Christmas joint.
