Filed under: News AP Photo, Ron Schwane Soul singing legend Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. The 68-year-old singer and songwriter opened up to Gilles Peterson of BBC 6 Music about his diagnosis and frustrations with forgetfulness. "The doctor said you have signs of Alzheimer's. He said it's not bad yet but it's going to get worse. How can I not remember songs that I wrote? [...]

It's with great sadness that we bring the news that Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with dementia. The soul singer, 68, has confirmed that he's at the early stages of Alzheimer’s. The musician told BBC 6 Music: "The doctor said ‘you have signs of Alzheimer’s’. He said it’s not bad yet but it’s going to get worse. How can I not remember songs that I wrote? That’s frustrating.” He continued: [...]

According to NME , 68-year-old Bobby Womack has announced that he's in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. "It's not bad yet, but will get worse." In 2012, Womack released the Damon Albarn-produced The Tallest Man in the Universe , his first album in over a decade. "How can I not remember songs I wrote? It’s frustrating. I don't feel together yet. Negative things come in my mind and it's hard for me to remember sometimes." Womack dealt with drug addiction in the '60s through the '80s. He was inducted into the Rock and [...]

Throughout Bobby Womack's illustrious career he has released 27 studio albums. His latest release. The Bravest Man in The World, came out last year and was one of my favorite albums of 2012. Womack was diagnosed with colon cancer less then a year ago and has now been diagnosed with early stages of alzheimer's disease. Womack was quoted in The Sun saying, “How can I not remember songs I wrote? It’s frustrating, I don’t feel together yet. Negative things come in my mind and it’s hard for me [...]

Bobby Womack just can't catch a break. The 68-year-old singer is less than a year removed from colon cancer, and now NME reports that he's been diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s. In an interview with UK publication The Sun , Womack admitted to forgetting his song's lyrics and the last name of frequent collaborator Damon Albarn, who produced his most recent album The Bravest Man in the Universe . "How can I not remember songs I wrote? It’s frustrating," Womack told [...]
Kaptin Is Dead - Reflections 2012 by Kaptinisdead on Mixcloud We haven't done any 'best of' this year but Kaptin has put together a 'reflection selection' for 2012. Here's what he said about it. "As I enter the final stages of the roller coaster ride that was 2012 I've left little time to consider a 'best of mix' really, with such a good year for music it might possibly last til 2014 anyway. [...]
The other day, I caught the second half of American Gangster in syndication and enjoyed the it thoroughly, as I hadn't seen the background on Blue Magic since theaters. But, [...] The post Your Daily Funk - Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" appeared first on The Smoking Section .

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that delighted, inspired and fascinated us in 2012 and that we think are worthy of remembering long after the year is over. We present them here in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, we've stuck with the one song per artist rule. Click here to download all the tracks in a zip and subscribe to our Spotify Playlist to stream them all. Enjoy y'all! [...]

Above is a muddied amalgam of the artwork to each of our freshly completed Tracks of 2012 rundown , dubiously fangled on a newly acquired and equally dodgy copy of Photoshop, and below is our ongoing attempt to grapple with the finer intricacies of musical technologies. It's the first, and could well be the last Spotify playlist I ever so painstakingly compile, and it features our every entry (or rather the 28 that, at the time of writing, were hooked up to their mainframe, or whatever the correct technical term would be for that). That our topspot is in [...]

Today we begin our 2012 Annual Report by recapping the year in news. Since January 1st, the staff of Consequence of Sound has posted over 4,500 news stories, ranging from album and tour announcements to the death of M.C.A. and the trials and tribulations of Pussy Riot. Below, we've put together a timeline highlighting the 100 stories which we felt best defined the year. Each notation includes a brief recap of the story along with a link to the original article and even audio. And since the year isn't quite over yet, we'll continue [...]

You know who loves a good list? Every single one of you. Now get on with checking out the second part of my Top 50 Songs Of 2012 . In case you're curious, I chose the songs from the 400+ tracks that I shared around here throughout the last 11 months. Enjoy. 40) : Passion Pit - I'll Be Alright : I'm still not sure what Passion Pit were aiming for on their sophomore effort, but I dig this track a lot. I think it shows how adventurous their sound can be. From Gossamer [...]

In this, the first instalment of Dots & Dashes' Tracks of 2012, we initiate the rundown from forty through one, vicariously reliving the glory days of TOTP, rampaged Woolworths racks of any given Monday morn, and so forth. Novelty Christmas number ones and such. Though as we approach the season to be jolly – blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah – here begins our catalogue of tracks to have made the year that was, and most certainly still is 2012, commensurately merry. Comprising odes to toddlers, strippers and charlatans alike, numbers 31 through 40 take [...]
Dorothy Allison talks to the Chicago Tribune about her celebrated novel Bastard out of Carolina and having her work banned. "Some of my favorite writers have been banned, and for generally the same reasons. For being too dangerous, too provocative, too explicit, writing about violence, writing about sexuality. But writing is supposed to be dangerous. My assumption when I began writing was that you were never going to make any money. And you were never going to reach everyone. Therefore you had to do as much as [...]

Bobby Womack 's solo album The Bravest Man In The Universe has stayed in relatively steady rotation on the tankPHONE since it was released earlier this year. Damon Albarn produced it, and while it looks like it was spurred on by the two men's work together on the last Gorillaz album, it is very much Womack's show here. One of my biggest concert regrets of this year thus far was missing Womack when he was in town a few weeks ago, and watching his performance above of "Jubilee (Don't Let Nobody Turn You Around)" [...]

Later… with Jools Holland was back on UK airwaves Friday night with more performances from Mumford and Sons and Bobby Womack . The Mumfords followed up their Tuesday performances of "I Will Wait" and “Whispers in the Dark” with another track from their new LP Babel in "Below My Feet". After offering “Please Forgive My Heart” on Tuesday, Womack and his ensemble led by Damon Albern performed the title track to his new album, The Bravest Man in the Universe [...]
