Being sick is terrible. I've been fighting something nasty since Tuesday. Luckily the worst was out of the way fast - after recording a 101 degree temperature Tuesday night, the fever subsided and I've slowly returned to a state that's manageable. I was still a bit stuffed up on the 25th, but by 10pm all that was left was sniffling and the occasional cough - my regular voice was back. On November 25, I decided to do something a little different. Not only would I tell a few stories about [...]
"LA-based Bodies of Water play a familiar grab bag of recent indie touchstone sounds, from haunting female-led British folk on the opener "One Hand Loves the Other", to vamping electric Neil Young rock with a country flair on "Open Rhythms". They do it all with an ear for the melodramatic. It's as if they were composing a musical about an indie band making an album. On their third album, Bodies of Water return to their own label Thousand Tongues (though they're still associated with Secretly Canadian, who originally provided them with wider distribution). This album continues [...]

California-based lo-fi rock band Bodies of Water are back with a new album, Twist Again , relased last month on Thousand Tongues Records. More intimate and somewhat darker than the band's previous albums, Twist Again is still filled with sunny melodies and breezy 60s pop sounds. You can stream the whole album now on Soundcloud . After the departure of founding members Kyle Gladden and Jessica Conklin, the married core of the band (David and Meredith Metcalf) focused on their ABBA-tastic side project Music Go Music , with the project's [...]
On its third album, the husband/wife team of Bodies of Water continues its pursuit of highly orchestrated, indie savant craftwork. LA-based Bodies of Water play a familiar grab bag of recent indie touchstone sounds, from haunting female-led British folk on the opener "One Hand Loves the Other", to vamping electric Neil Young rock with a country flair on "Open Rhythms". They do it all with an ear for the melodramatic. It's as if they were composing a musical about an indie band making an album. On their third album, Bodies of Water return to their...
This is a picture of Sarabeth Tucek. She makes music that's kinda of a downer, but it's like listening to aural agony, and it's amazing right after a late night of drinking with friends or if you just ran over a squirrel or something like that. Anyway, I thought this picture was just all kinds [...]
Bodies of Water has somehow managed to make music that sounds nostalgic and modern at the same time—drawing comparisons to everything from Arcade Fire to Fleetwood Mac —but all with their own distinct sound. Open Rhythms.mp3 Bodies of Water - Open Rhythms Download read more

Being a Bodies of Water fan feels like a secret society. Meeting those who share the same enthusiasm and passion for the LA based married couple's God sent talents ignites instant conversation and camaraderie. In turn, it also leaves you wondering, why are they not more popular? I imagine that ninety percent of the people reading this review will at least have heard of Bodies Of Water. I mean, you're reading TLOBF. You must have taste. But think about the masses that shot Arcade Fire to US number one, or the amount of critical and popular [...]

Los Angeles husband and wife duo Bodies of Water released their third LP together, Twist Again , this past July on their own Thousand Tongues label. David and Meredith Metcalf's music is a sophisticated and classic brand of pop colored with bursts of organ, brass, strings, well-positioned punches of electric guitar, and the couple's own charming vocal harmonies. Despite the LP's Chubby Checker reference, you'll be hard-pressed to find any listeners Twisting to the darkly meditative "One Hand Loves The Other" or the soft psychedelia of "Open Rhythms." But that's not to say these songs [...]

Available for a short time via the band's Soundcloud page, Bodies of Water will be handing out their new album Twist Again for free. And if it's just good enough, you can order the vinyl version here .

Unfortunately for you, the time has come and gone for a free download of the latest album from L.A.'s Bodies of Water, entitled Twist Again. Fear not, you can still stream the full length at the site (linked below) if you are so inclined, and we'll give a brief introduction with a cut from it...

Last week Bodies of Water made their new album Twist Again available for limited free download via their website, but don't fret if you didn't manage to get it in time, as you can still stream the entire record online. Twist Again , is LA band Bodies of Water's third full-length release, and it is an assuredly confident affair, spanning a variety of musical styles. David Metcalfe's noir-baritone sounding at times strikingly similar to that of Nick Cave, in both tone and delivery, especially on 'New Age Nightmare'. [...]

Maintaining a unique identity in an indie scene that has become increasingly commercialized is an art form in and of itself, and one in which Bodies of Water is most proficient. The core of Bodies of Water is comprised of married couple, David and Meredith Metcalf. Their effortless chemistry, complemented by the talents of accompanying horn players and drummers, gives the band an easy likeability. Their latest release, "Twist Again," never tries to hard, professing, above all, a heartfelt, earnest charm, sprinkled with a soulful sobriety. Bodies of Water is at its best when its music [...]

Grab some tissues, because your ears are about to blow a load. I am pleased to present to you The Indie Sabbath -back in full force- more refreshing than an ice-cold soda in the middle of the desert. It's been 4 long weeks for me down in Joplin, MO. Yes, my work there took away from the Sabbath and my contributions to Earmilk in general- but if I could go back and do it all again I wouldn't change a thing. Music doesn't go away- if you keep your ears open it will find you. For me, music is the [...]
