Mikrowave celebrates its fifth anniversary with a series of three very special singles. This is part two, taking the label into a slighly housier direction than normal. With music from Agaric, Tobias, Mark Broom and Bodycode.

Photo by Christopher Jonassen [ Perlon ] Whether recording as Portable or Bodycode, there's no denying that Alan Abrahams is an album producer. He's reliably released an LP every two years since 20022s Futuristic Experiments #005 , accompanied by a stream of singles with an uncommon sense of vision. Abrahams' tracks often feel like hermetic worlds teeming with activity, a [...]

For LWE's 22nd podcast, Alan Abrahams pitted his Portable and Bodycode aliases against each other for almost an hour of alien house mayhem. Make sure to grab a piece of the carnage before it's sealed in the archives this Friday, September 24th at 10 am CST.
After the hours of face melting bass Billionaire and I experienced from the likes of Excision, Datsik, Rico Tubbs, Christian Martin and countless other bass heads this past weekend at Shambhala (in beautiful British Columbia), Kenton Slash Demon offer up something quite refreshing: spliff-tastic summer cheddar bedded on yet another lush and organic sound scape. Tapping in as a 115 BPM slow knocker, Sun rolls with a mind-blowing ease. Off The Schwarzschild Solution Part 1 and their first original offering since last years stunning Khattibi EP this one delivers yet again. The release also [...]
The good people at at Spectral Sound present a label round up featuring some of their best recent tracks from Bruno Pronsato, Bodycode, Seth Troxler, Osborne and label pin-up Matthew Dear in three different guises. Pronsato's remix of Kate Simko's 'Take You There' is a spectral psyche-house highlight, contrasting nicely with Bodycode's emotive 'Immune' from [...]
We caught up with co-found of the Get Physical label, DJ T in anticipation of his latest Fabric release, to ask a couple of questions of what exactly goes into that 'deep' record... 'Khattabi' satte for [...]

It seems once again artists have looked past shriveling album sales and pooh poohed format worries while creating a truly outstanding crop of longplayers. Whether exploring the sinews connecting electronic music and jazz, amalgamating traditional African and house sounds, gearing up a set of club bangers or diving into unknown recesses in listeners' heads, the 10 albums LWE's reviewing staff chose represent the best 2009 had to offer. We have only one regret: last year we voted DJ Sprinkles's breathtaking Midtown 120 Blues as 2008's #3 album of the year , which disqualified it from being included [...]
As you well know from my last post about the geographical influence of my iPod, Berlin is my favourite city in Europe by the same margin that Usain Bolt wins all his races. So this time I'll try and keep it a little lighter than the juggernaut of a post that precipitated from my last pilgrimage to the womb of techno. So I am going to try and keep it really brief:-Thursday: Weekend Club - Chris

[ Spectral Sound ] ( buy CD ) ( buy mp3s ) Alan Abrahams has the rare gift, at least in house and techno circles, of making music that sounds like no other. As Portable or Bodycode, his sound is instantly recognizable. A unique and often thrilling fusion that embraces 80's Chicago, 90's rave and 00's clicks 'n' cuts, Abrahams' albums have nonetheless often struggled to produce the adrenaline rush that accompanies his jackhammer live show (ably documented in LWE Podcast 2 2). Indeed, having such an individual signature sound brings [...]

I thought it was about time I joined the 21st century and added the option of subscribing to the monthly mix as a podcast, something I've been meaning to do for a while. So, if you want, click here and you can have it sent to you automatically via whatever you prefer to use for that kind of thing (in most cases, iTunes). If you'd rather download it the old fashioned way, you can do that too. In line with this new paradigm, I have formally renamed the monthly mix to Urlaubshits Radio, though you probably shouldn't expect [...]

Alan Abrahams maintains that traditional African music and house music are much the same thing. In his music as Portable and Bodycode, Abrahams acts a living link between the indigenous sounds of his youth in South Africa and the first Chicago house records whose futuristic aesthetic broadened his horizons. Since leaving South Africa for London, Lisbon and now Berlin, Abrahams launched the Süd Electronic label with Lerato and released on ~scape, Spectral Sound, Karat and Perlon (among others). Tomorrow sees the release of his second album as Bodycode, the spectacular Immune on Spectral Sound. Full of fuzzy synth [...]

Here we have yet another kick ass single from Spectral Sound , Ghostly International's leftfield house and techno label. This time the pressure comes from South African born, Berlin based producer Alan Abrahams aka Bodycode. There are three tracks on his "What Did You Say' EP, the title track, an acidic paean to an estranged lover, complete with doomy Germanic femaile spoken vocal, that comes across like a minimalist Lidell Townsell colliding with Yazoo's "Situation." Next up is a dub mix of the track "Imitation Lover" from Abrahams' second album, Immune. "Imitation Dub" sounds like early '90s [...]
