Electro-cumbia dance explosionists Bomba Estereo with some dude who everyone remembers but we all want to forget.
by Pierre Lestruhaut Being one of the two CF writers who lives somewhere south of Mexico, and the only one living in Central America , I can imagine that most of our readers who know what it's like to yearly attend a festival of the SXSW or Nrmal caliber, will have a huge WTF reaction when they read the line-up of this festival held last week in Costa Rica, [...]

SXSW 2012 took over the streets of Austin last week and by all accounts, the city of Austin is probably still picking up the mess left behind. Our friend, Carla Ferguson, was kind to recap her week of craziness, taking in acts from Jigga to Trust. All words and photos by Carla Ferguson. Fresh Cut Collective: Geeks meet rock… and rap. This band was actually super interesting. They performed a version of 50 Cent's "In the Club" that was quite unique. Check them out sometime. Jay-Z: [...]

After singing about sex, love and rumba, the lies of politicians, and the female obsession with physical beauty, Bomba Estereo songstress Liliana Saumet gets her hands dirty with a new track on murder. Under the name of Leidi Li, Saumet takes the warm voice-controversial lyrics combination to the next level. Through a trip hop, downtempo beat, produced by no other than Saumet's sweetheart (Pedro D'Alessandro under his own alter-ego, AOIM), Leidi Li coolly describes by what means she proceeded to heartlessly murder, chop up, and bury her fiancé. "Maté a mi novio" explores manslaughter through graphic rhymes, punctuating the track [...]
Tanto La [...]
This little corner of the Internet would not be possible without the help, hard work and support of the folks below. We've got an eclectic confederation of folks keeping the wheels turning at LMB NOLA and we hope you enjoy reading our memories from the year in music. Continue on below as we recount our [...]

I can't think of an electronic group working right now that's better than Bomba Estereo. The damn shame is that they're from Colombia, so if you're here in the States, you don't give a shit because you're force fed crap world music from Puto Mayo and Starbucks without realizing the true genius that is out there. And, yeah, I've been on my soapbox about this before , but it bears repeating. So, I repeat: NO ONE IS KILLING IT AS GOOD AS THIS BAND. NO ONE. NOT DAN DEACON. NOT JAMES MURPHY. [...]
Once upon a time I gave Philippe Cohen Solal (of Gotan Project ) a few CDs of experiments with the Colombian rhythm of Cumbia, which I had sourced from travels in Mexico, myspace, blogs, or directly from producers and DJs in Tijuana, Mexico City, Monterrey, Bogota and Buenos Aires. I figured someone who had very successfully innovated with Tango, would be interested in another similar movement going on with Cumbia. In fact I was so excited about this new twist on cumbia, that in 2008 I started a project called [...]
Are you familiar with "vaudeville"? According to the wonderful (and always handy) Merriam-Webster , it's a noun that describes "a light often comic theatrical piece frequently combining pantomime, dialogue, dancing, and song" or "stage entertainment consisting of various acts (as performing animals, comedians, or singers)." Most of you are familiar with this sort of entertainment - especially if you live in a city - but if not, here's your chance to experience it. This weekend (that is, September 16-18), Chicago's Eckhart Park will play host to the inaugural Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements (BCPA), becoming "a playground [...]

(image via ) For the indie audience from the USA, it might be hard to conceptualize Colombian band Bomba Estéro . First there's the problematic definition of "World Music" which is unfortunately lumped in with Puto Mayo comps at your local Starbucks and your crazy aunt who wears one too many bead necklaces. Second there's the strong ties that the band has to Colombian musical traditions and forms like cumbia . Finally, there's the defiant vocal stylings of Liliana Saumet -- an emcee of prodigious skill and unbelievable live performer -- which, [...]

Simón Mejía is the ring leader of the Colombian beat slingers that mix the electro cumbia sounds of their homeland. C=T caught up with Mejía to talk about a new album, Shakira, Colombia, Tego Calderon and Reggaeton. (Photo by David J. Dowling) What inspiration was used for your latest EP, "Ponte Bomb?" "We had the forward energy and love from the Technotronic cover of "Pump up the Jam" that we had done for Levi's as part of campaign where artists were to pay tribute and we [...]
Last night a little after midnight, Austin City Limits, or ACL as the kids call it, dropped their 10th anniversary lineup for this year's festival. No real surprises as the major headliners were either already announced or revealed by the scratch off tickets, but still you have got Kanye and Arcade Fire in here as well as music legend Stevie Wonder, not a bad little lineup. There are also a ton of great mid-level bands in here, so check out the full lineup below. As of right now, all 3-day passes for this festival are sold out, [...]

Day Two of Coachella is like a second tour of duty: by now you know where the ATM is, where the good snacks are, and how to get in the checkpoint line that has the most gullible security guard. And parking is easier, because half the cars have been safely lodged in a campsite zone the night before. Still, it took us a couple hours to roll in, which meant I started Saturday already kind of hating myself, having missed the Henry Clay People and a slew of other talents. Then again, the people who had been here for hours [...]
After a triumphant performance at Vive Latino, Bomba Estéreo is about to embark on an extensive U.S. tour and they've just premiered a weird looking, yet entertaining clip for "Ponte Bomb" (part of Levi's Pioneer Revivival Sessions, and recently released as Ponte Bomb EP by Nacional Records). The Technotronic cover demanded an over-the-top set of images and plenty of movement, and that's exactly what we get in this clip helmed by graffiti artist 'Chanoir'. Li Saumet commands every frame with energetic wisdom, and when she isn't in the frame, we get some fluffy creatures showing off their fur [...]

Lollapalooza Chile , the offshoot of Perry Farrell's Chicago-based extravaganza, will look to make a memorable first impression with a lineup headed by none other than rapper Kanye West, pop-rock super stars The Killers, and Farrell's outfit, Jane's Addiction. Set to take place from April 2-3 in Santiago's Parque O'Higgins, the bill also includes Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Deftones, Fatboy Slim, The Flaming Lips, The National, Empire of the Sun, Cat Power, Cypress Hill, 30 Seconds to Mars, 311, Sublime with Rome, Ben Harper, Cold War Kids, CSS, Devendra Banhart, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, Ghostland Observatory, Fischerspooner, [...]
