Established in 2009, Sleeping In Airports is the Finnish collective of Tapio Ahola, Laura Ahonen and Pekka Vanajas. Tapio and Pekka were initially part of an alternative rock group called Dawn Delayed, before they ventured out and roped in vocalist Laura to start their own band. While Tapio pens most of the lyrics, they write the songs together and have flexible roles. Their debut, If the Bombs Start Dropping , is a 3 song digital EP released in February 2011. Their sound has been described as 'electronic, melancholic indie-pop with a [...]
Big D And The Kids Table used to be my favorite ska band years back. Every ska show I would go see, they would open, and their tour with Arrogant Sons of Bitches was one of the greatest I've seen. I will admit though, their release "Fluent In Stroll" sort of made me lose interest in the band as I didn't really like their new change in style, but when I heard them say that "For The Damned,

What do you get when you splice an experimental indie-darling with a successful, yet still credible, rapper? Philly DJs Bombé and Mr. Caribbean showed us that the results are tasty with their James Drake Mixtape , a nearly-30-minute ambient journey through the catalogs of Drake and James Blake. The mixtape literally oozes sexy, feeling surprisingly natural on tracks like "Wilhelm's Fucking Best" and "Find Your Limit." It's got a certain Frank Oceanesque nostalgia that's hard to quantify, but is easy on the ears. MP3: James Drake - "Wilhelm's Fucking Best" [...]

Justin Bieber covered Vanity Fair ’s February issue, and it is on track to become the worst-selling issue in 12 years! It's almost like box office poison ! The Bieber's cover has only sold 246,000 copies. If that number holds true, the Bieber's cover will be Vanity Fair’s biggest bomb since Will Smith graced a July 1999 cover for the movie, “Wild, Wild West.” WWD reports that Bieber wasn't just bad for Vanity Fair. He didn't sell well last year [...]

[ download ] [tweetmeme] After yesterday's feature on Radical Dads and today's spotlighted track by Bird of Youth , you could be forgiven for thinking there is a wave of nostalgia sweeping through your ragtag bunch of writers here at OTM. As with Radical Dads, Bird of Youth is a female-fronted Brooklyn trio who drink from the reservoir of mid-1990s college rock radio. However, where Radical Dads prefer the canons of acts like Pavement and Sonic Youth, this Bird of Youth track finds kindred [...]

There's a new, sassy trend in gay-rights activism. Members of the anti-war group Code Pink surprised Tim Pawlenty Thursday at a book signing for his new bio, "Courage to Stand," by unleashing buckets of pink confetti and glitter on his head. The activists yelled “Where's your courage to stand for gay rights and reproductive rights, huh, Tim Pawlenty?” before security guards removed them. While their line wasn't as charming as the Gingrich glitter bomber's , "Feel the rainbow, Newt," they used the same [...]

A skeptical person would assume that the only reason Bombé and Mr. Caribbean ever decided to mash up the work of James Blake and Drake , was because of the clever name. I suppose mash-up Mixtapes of any kind are meant to, by their very nature, provoke a tilt of the head and a raised eyebrow. This ‘James Drake’ Mixtape is no exception; the initial reaction however holds no weight after the first 5 seconds. The record is tender, full of longing and at times lust; it gels together to form a series [...]
Guess what rhymes with James Blake? Drake! Even if they are somewhat odd couple, they are a mash up made in Seussian heaven. According to mixer Bombé’s website, he and Mr. Caribbean have created “… ... read more

James Drake - Wilhelm's Fucking Best James Drake is a 9-track mixtape concocted by two disparate Philly DJs: Bombé (aka Kid Queasy), and Mr. Caribbean , the Puerto Rican “papi chulo” of R&B. Both DJs bring their own specialties to this inventive mash-up. Bombé’s taste for future bass and house is allied with Mr. Caribbean’s literal mission to create sexy soundtracks for every dark night. James Blake’s melodious synth compositions are suffused with Drake’s early tirade-like prose, resulting in a rare instance of musical ecstasy, or what Mr. Caribbean considers [...]
