Folly & The Hunter: Tragic Care - In Folly & The Hunter 's own summary of Tragic Care , they describe the album as finding "beauty in the breakdown", and I could not agree more with this assessment. This is the sophomore album from the Canadian trio. Tragic Care is a response to heartbreak and tragedy, which clearly translates. There are elements of the album that are very comforting and it was obviously a cathartic release for the members, especially singer Nick Vallee, whose real life experiences were the main inspiration. The subject matter is both heart-wrenching and relatable. Anyone who has [...]

It's a tall order to take on the music of an artist that's as beloved as Bon Iver, one whose songs and albums foster strong emotional connections with listeners, ties far beyond simple "like" and "love." Covers, too, of well-worn material can be ill-advised; the list of reasons is as great as the number of [...]
![LITTLE CHILDREN’S DREAMY, SCENIC FOLK [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4954547_lg.jpg)
Little Children is the moniker of Swedish music-maker, Linus Lutti, who possesses the ability to craft scenic landscapes of sound that are equal parts light and fog. His dreamy folk gem, “In Hau”, is more a living, breathing habitat than it is a “track”, expanding and evolving in front of our eyes for its six minute lifespan. I can’t shake the foggy sunrise vibes that I get every time I listen to it, which is why I hit repeat several times before moving on. January’s In Hau EP was followed in [...]
@hoodinternet The Hood Internet - Adornocene (Bon Iver x Miguel) Since everyone and their mother is listening to Daft Punk’s new album these days, here’s a nice interlude mashup from our friends at The Hood Internet. I had no idea what to expect when I saw the title, but in retrospect it’s not surprising that mashing up two super sexy artists produces a majorly sexy tune. // https://soundcloud.com/hoodint ernet/bon-iver-miguel
This is the first installment of Cover Up!, something we hope will become a regular feature here at TWJ, where we examine covers that - albeit debatably - surpass the original. The first album I ever bought, consciously thinking it was an Important Album, was Peter Gabriel’s Us (1992). It was also the second [...]

Like any other social media platform, Instagram can be stupid. So much of Instagram is crowded with shots of Florentine benedicts from brunch, blurry selfies, Rich Kids of Instagram and millions and billions and trillions of cats. Most people’s crop game is awful, their comment game is even worse, and their frivolous use of the focus tool is out of control. Some people, if you can even believe it, still use the Kelvin filter.

Such a beautiful and well put together mashup coming from The Hood Internet . In what they call "Adornocene," the duo basically took Miguel's "Adorn," removed the vocals and added some Bon Iver. Simple, yet genius. Enjoy. The Hood Internet - Adornocene (Bon Iver x Miguel) Play Download [...]

We all know Justin Vernon from his main project Bon Iver . Unlike Bon Iver, which seems purposely devised to rid you of your will to live, his latest group, The Shouting Matches, are actually listenable. Their debut album, Grownass Man , was recently released. Grownass Man is everything Bon Iver is not. It's got energy, emotion, hooks, and excitement. All things that are completely foreign in Vernon's main work. The Shouting Matches are firmly grounded in terra firma. The opener, "Avery Hill", is a traditional roots rock number. A surprisingly [...]

Helsinki-based electro duo Phantom have covered Bon Iver 's folk hit 'Skinny Love' and it's dazzling. They're not the first act to have taken on the track, Ed Sheeran's done it and we all know Birdy's uber fragile rendition, but Phantom have shaken things up a bit and given it some thrilling dynamics. It's no longer an plain acoustic-sounding track - it's got more power. The chorus drops into oblivion with its deep bassy undertones, which shake the buzzing, warbling synths, while the verse provides a [...]

It's 2013, and human beings are still trying to figure out how to automate music discovery. Trends come and go, new services pop up and disappear, and a music discovery app is created, marketed, and killed off every few days. The thing is, no algorithm, social networking service, or customizable radio station has been able to really nail it. There's still nothing quite as effective as a friend saying, "You like so-and-so? Check this out."
"Itandrsquo;s not you, itandrsquo;s me." Yeah, Iandrsquo;ve heard that crap before, just like these indie breakup songs. For all of you going through a rough patch, lets have a moment of silence. Sure, it h

James Blake's sophomore effort, Overgrown BY JORDAN MAINZER It’s about 9:30 P.M. at Metro Chicago on May 4, 2013, and the crowd is stuck in some sort of limbo. Unsure whether to stand still and scratch their chins or dance, audience members look very awkward while a DJ plays minimally and lazily remixed versions of recognizable songs like Andy Stott ’s “ Numb ” and D’Angelo’s “ Untitled (How Does it Feel) ”. All is well, however, because coming on in about 30 minutes will be James Blake, an [...]
There seems to be an infinite amount of talent in the world at any given moment. I listen to a lot of music, but I could always listen to more. The job of a music blogger is never truly done, which can be frustrating and exhilarating at the same time. Below are three amazing artists I have recently discovered, and I would like to formally apologize to the thousands of other worthy artists that I have failed to acknowledge. Hit the jump to discover who is Now Playing (#NP4) on my iTunes... [...]
Beige Throes’ ethereally breathless escapes intermixed with innovative altered refrains, sees this up & coming Baltimore native transfiguring Bon Iver and Anathallo’s originals into a gallery wall of art.
I love getting mail. Actual, physical mail. Letters, postcards, packages. One day, a month or two ago, a small package found its way to my mailbox. Sent from a stranger from Gothenburg called Magnus. The content: a postcard, chocolate and a DVD with some of Magnus' work: under the moniker Moon Regiment the Swedish producer [...]

It’s not one minute into London trio Daughter ’s debut album that the poignant depiction of “frozen hearts growing colder with time” is laid down and the mood set for the next 45 minutes: complete and utter sadness of the highest order. If You Leave is out on 4AD , the home of fellow savants of sorrow The National and Bon Iver , so it’s not surprising that Daughter join the likes of the aforementioned. The very [...]

Not much is left to say about Colin Stetson , but if you haven't gotten caught up yet, here's a brief rundown: Colin Stetson is a musician on a whole new level for musicians. He plays saxophone (and pretty much everything else with a reed) like a professional athlete, wrestling, pushing, and generally torturing his instrument, utilizing a technique called circular breathing to play for, sometimes, 15 goddamn minutes straight! Wikipedia has generously compiled a list of artists he's recorded and performed with, and it's even larger than I recalled: [...]

It's rainy, it's cloudy, it's miserable out, all I wanna do is stay inside and crawl back into bed. It's been some time since our last Chill Mix and figured today was a perfect day for another follow up. In no particular order, here's a collection of low-key electronic tracks spanning the past few months or so that I've been meaning to share with you all. laymedown - Me & You [...]
