Poliça play a dark yet delicate brand of ambient rock that, if you haven't heard, you must check out now. Fronted by Channy Leaneagh, the Minnesota band ends up approximately halfway between Joy Division and The Cocteau Twins. Their 2012 debut "Give You The Ghost" and its single "Dark Star" landed the band toward the top of many best-of lists, and, as they get ready to release a follow-up this year they stream a new track, "Tiff," which features Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. "They're the best band I've ever heard", claimed Bon Iver's Justin Vernon when he first heard Poliça last year. Having aired the track at their recent Coachella performance Poliça have today unveiled the studio version of their new single, 'Tiff', featuring none other than Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Poliça's debut album, last year's 'Give You The Ghost', was a triumph, with Vernon himself calling the Minneapolis five-piece "the best band I've ever heard" . You could say the colloboration was innevitable. 'Tiff' is a dark, dubby beast that has Channy Leaneagh and Vernon's vocals intertwining to claustaphobic effect. It's devestating.
Poliça released one of my favorite albums of the past few years, Give You The Ghost , that was so haunting and had such replay value. The same exact thing could be said about Bon Iver's self-titled sophomore release too, so of course it's fitting that Justin Vernon himself is joining Poliça for new single "Tiff". I didn't/am not going to Coachella this year so I missed out on their live collaboration Friday but will happily take this recorded gem as a FOMO consolation.
