Field Report's Chris Porterfield performing live BY JORDAN MAINZER The third guy’s a charm. That is, Field Report’s Chris Porterfield is the third and latest spin off from retrospectively super indie supergroup DeYarmond Edison, the early 2000s band that also included Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and the members of Megafaun. Porterfield’s surname-anagram band released their excellent self-titled debut last year and played most of it on the night of March 5th at Evanston SPACE. A six-piece band, Field Report transformed the intimate sounds of their debut to the bourgeois suburban venue [...]

This week, London three-piece Daughter released their mesmeric debut album, If You Leave . To celebrate, the trio popped in to BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday night to perform a jaw-dropping session excusively for Zane Lowe. It included this: a gorgeous, slow-burning mix up of Bon Iver's 'Perth' and Hot Chip's 'Ready For The Floor'. Although completely contrasting in their original formats, the group transform them into one continous torch song. Utterly, utterly beautiful. Listen and download below. Download: Daughter - Perth vs. Ready For The Floor (Live Lounge)

Some things you just wouldn't expect... like when Daughter recently visited BBC Radio One and stunned everyone with a mash-up of Bon Iver 's "Perth" and Hot Chip 's "Ready for the Floor . " I know, enough said... you can pick your jaw up off the floor now. Have a listen below and leave comments. I'd like to know what you think! Not sure if there are any Walking Dead fans out there but if there are you most likely saw Episode 13 in Season three where Rick and the Governor were at the table negotiating and now we are all wondering if Rick will give up Michonne to save his group? As the question lingers in our minds Rick prepares his group for war while an intense, guitar-driven folk song plays in the background. That song is Fink's "Warm Shadows" off his 2011 LP, Perfect Darkness Today we heard a new rendition of the track done [...]
![DAUGHTER’S BON IVER/HOT CHIP MASH-UP HAS US GUSHING [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4845598_lg.jpg)
Ready your ears for Daughter's new, potent mash-up of Bon Iver's "Perth" and Hot Chip's "Ready for the Floor"! The band's already placid sound melds beautifully with the subtle brilliance of the Bon Iver track, while they manage to slow down and weave in Hot Chip's dance jam, creating a wondrously striking mash-up that'll have you gushing. For those of us not living in the UK, where Daughter's debut was released this week, this should help whet our appetites and hold us over until April [...]

Recently the London folk rock trio Daughter stopped by BBC Radio 1 and recorded a stunningly tender "mashup" of Bon Iver's "Perth" and Hot Chip's "Ready For The Floor". Front woman Elena Tonra blends the two seemingly un-blendable tracks, nursing them into one soothing, blissful cover that almost sounds like an entirely new song. Listen to it below. The CoSigned outfit will release their debut album, If You Leave , on April 30th in the U.S. via Glassnote and March 30th everywhere else via 4AD.
The abstract saxophone drone machine Colin Stetson spent the past couple of years as a touring member of Bon Iver, and Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon sings on four of the songs that appear on Stetson's new album New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light . (Preview a couple of those songs here .) Now, Stetson and Vernon have teamed up again, covering " Warm Shadow ," a track from the Bristol singer and multi-instrumentalist Fink. The cover, which turns a tense folk song into space-jazz IDM, shows up on Fink's new "Warm Shadow" single, and [...]

Some things just shouldn't be good but somehow, just somehow, come off as completely irresistible. This is one of those. And if anyone could make a Bon Iver / Hot Chip mash-up work then it was always going to be Daughter 's Elena Tonra. Listen below, recorded for Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1:

Escucha: Justin Vernon & Colin Stetson - "Warm Shadow" (Fink Cover) Justin Vernon ( Bon Iver ) y Colin Stetson (maestro del saxofón y músico en vivo de Arcade Fire , Bell Orchestre y Bon Iver ), se han unido para grabar un cover de Fink ," Warm Shadow ". Fink es el proyecto de músico inglés Fin Greenall , quien desde el 2000 ha publicado varios discos que van desde el break-beat techo hasta la electrónica [...]

Vance Joy makes himself easily the most sought-after unsigned neo-folk act on debut single, "Riptide". The narrative is full of warm and dangerous imagery, pleasant lumps in your throat, being pulled out to sea and Michelle Phiffer. Bearing homage to Beirut and a major-key version of Bon Iver, Vance Joy offers just enough boldness to "Riptide" to break some of the ubiquitous mainstreaming of things that fit under the big tent of Major Label Folk. The stakes feel just high enough, or perhaps Vance Joy is simply willing to court danger in an increasingly safe genre, the [...]

Deptford Goth 's debut album Life After Defo mixes youthful heartbreak with expert production to create one of the most fascinating records of the young year. The brainchild of Daniel Woolhouse, Deptford Goth mines R&B while taking equally from the singer-songwriter era to create a quiet album that's heavy on atmosphere, emotion, and intriguing production choices. Like all great albums, Life After Defo takes a while to truly grab hold of you. But, when it does open up, it's a revealing album that brings the [...]
Alright, I know this seems like a cop out. You may already be asking yourself, "Wait, didn't this band break up in 2006?". The answer to that question, my friends, would be yes, they did. These musicians created songs of simple beauty that are often overlooked due to the later successes of each individual artist. This is why I am taking the time to give public appreciation to an unsigned band of the past, a ghost in our musical memories that deserves more than a lingering itch of what could have been. DeYarmond Edison, a [...]

The son of Ecuadorean immigrants, Roberto Carlos Lange was born in South Florida in 1980. His childhood was suffused with tropical heat, humidity, hurricanes, all refracted with the rich sounds and colors of the various Latin American cultures of southern Florida. Pounding bass beats from passing cars, boom boxes bouncing down the block, and late-night parties called “peñas” provided a foundation for Lange’s interest in sound and lifelong quest to discover the unlimited variety of objects used to produce music. Over the last few years Lange has collaborated with prominent visual and sound artist David Ellis to compose [...]
![THE BLISSFUL NOISE OF XENIA RUBINOS [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4828271_lg.jpg)
Photo by Shervin Lainez My first listen to Xenia Rubinos was similar in some ways to my first tUnE-yArDs listen. When I heard tUnE-yArDs for the first time, it wrecked my concepts of pop song structure and then rebuilt them with expanded parameters and higher creative expectations for the pop I would hear thereafter. The difference is Xenia Rubinos isn’t breaking down barriers so much as completely ignoring them. Rubinos’ debut album, Magic Trix , incorporates a [...]
