The Wraith When compared to other movies I've featured here, The Wraith isn't that obscure. It has a pretty big cast, including Charlie Sheen as the title character, Nick Cassavetes, Randy Quaid and the only motherfucker uglier than Quaid, Clint Howard. When I was a kid I loved this damn movie and all its stupidity, from the gasoline-drinking sidekick to Sheen's awesome super-duper ghost car. I recently picked it up on DVD used but I'm afraid to watch it in fear that my childhood memories of the film have been tainted with the rose-colored glasses of [...]
Are you as excited as I am about Guilty Pleasures airing this Saturday on ITV? Well, you should be, because it's great. And it airs on my birthday and I was at the filming (remember? The time Dee nearly laid the smackdown on Sophie Ellis Bextor?) Perez has a post here with a clip of Kelly Osbourne's performance . mp3: Bonnie Tyler - 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'

From the dark and terrible era known as the mid-eighties comes this Vallejo-illustrated advertisement for the now-defunct mall clothing chain Chess King: It's a poignant reminder of a time when be-mulleted bronze gods roamed the land in an unending quest for cocaine, hair gel, and discounted gold neck-chains. One's arrival on the scene was heralded by the blue-shifted sound of Journey or Foreigner blasting from a Pioneer car stereo and the unmistakable mephitic tang of Drakkar Noir aftershave. (For the record, the fellow in the ad perfectly matches my high [...]

So I just came in from the frigid outdoors after witnessing a Lunar Eclipse here in Columbus, OH. Enjoy this song, and stay warm. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" Bonnie Tyler (and yes, I have performed this song at karaoke, and it fucking rocked) image courtesy of Kerala Tips

Tender. Ballads. Essential to anyone's music library, this particular brand of slow song transcends all normal notions of musical taste and even decency. Tender ballads cut deep and hit emotional soft spots, at times reducing listeners to inexcusable displays of sentiment. While certainly appropriate at any time of day or night, tender ballads are best enjoyed in the late hours of nights out, when there's nobody left but your closest friends and your raw, confessional feelings for company. I considered placing tender ballads under several existing categories, but realized that they unquestionably warranted their own post series. Here are some [...]
As you can read in previous posts a fair amount has happened since my last Friday Mix. One trip to Michigan, one trip to Chicago, one trip to Greenbuild, one stolen Canon 20D camera, one stolen 24-70 f/2.8 L lens, one new Canon 40D camera , back in OC for a week. Ahh, music. R.E.M. – What's the Frequency Kenneth? (Live) [...]

One of the advantages of the switch to direct market sales of comics in the 1980's was that it opened the way for more mature content. Titles like Watchmen , American Flagg! , and The Dark Knight Returns took full advantage of the newly-expanded boundaries and are quite rightfully lauded as pioneering classics of contemporary sequential art. Oh, and comics fans also got a disturbing glimpse into the consequences of intimate relations between a winged woman and a walking nuclear furnace: It comes courtesy of [...]

Here She Comes - Bonnie Tyler In what has to be one of the most colossally stupid and needless ideas in the history of all things, the silent sci-fi classic Metropolis was re-released in theatres in the 80s with new color tinting and an amazingly 80s soundtrack with songs by Billy Squier, Loverboy, Freddie Mercury and this power-ballad by Bonnie 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' Tyler. I like 80s music, and I like Fritz Lang movies, but some things just don't belong together. I shudder to think what might have happened [...]
