Drawing heavily from his trip hop and jazz influences present on his previous four albums, Simon Green who records and performs under the name Bonobo, stays basically true to form with his latest studio release titled The North Borders, available now on Ninja Tune Records. The music begs to be played late at night, preferably after heavy drinking and exhausting shenanigans. Heavy syncopated drums loop over ambient synths and assorted other instruments to create down tempo electronica that depresses listeners at the same time as it relaxes. Green also employs a tide like effect in many of his [...]

Following on from his new album The North Borders, British musical genius and one of my favourites of all time Bonobo has just released a new EP First Fires. Out thanks to Ninja Tune, the EP has taken two tracks from the album, First Fires and Heaven for the Sinner, and released them separately with an original and instrumental. Arguably two of the best on the album, it's only common sense to give the two tracks more spotlight. First Fires features Grey Reverend on vocals, while Bonobo has decided to feature Erykah Badu on Heaven for the Sinner. [...]

![[on the rise] Akela the Lone Wolf](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4955607_lg.jpg)
I know very little about Akela the Lone Wolf , but I do know he's a producer from Northern California, his debut album Catalyst is dropping sometime this year, and i'm obsessed with the first single, "Waaves (feat. JSPR)". Easily my favorite song this month. It's an experimental/ambient track, with a sound and style comparable to the likes of Blackbird Blackbird, Bonobo, Dntel, and Teen Daze, but definitely an original and creative piece of music. I can't wait to hear more. facebook // twitter // tumblr // soundcloud

Bibio: Silver Wilkinson - Today marks the release of Bibio’s seventh studio album, Silver Wilkinson , and damn, you need to pick this one up. The first three tracks are exactly what I would expect from Bibio -that melancholy sound that feels as far away as your childhood, yet still retains vibrant quality of a new experience-an aesthetic shaped from reverberating guitars played through clean amplifiers, swashing pads, spectral vocals and tasteful audio samples like the vinyl static on ‘The First Daffodils’. Yes, Bibio’s simplistic tendencies produce a truly sublime quality to the [...]
If you haven't yet got your paws on a copy of The North Borders then shame on you. Incredible piece of work from Bonobo which you can acquire right here.

In the second part of our Always Read the Label series, we take a look at Ninja Tune , a record label whose colourful form and slick moves have been battling fiercely against the drab aesthetics of mediocre music since its formation in 1990. Eclecticism is their bread and butter, with creativity possibly serving as their optional jam. Over the past twenty years the label has managed to forge new avenues for instrumental hip-hop while simultaneously reinventing jazz and dishing up fresh, hot bowls of new talent for the little ones. They’ve also managed to spawn a string of [...]

Photos and words by Debi Del Grande It's so refreshing to go to a show without looking through someone's cell phone. Most music fans were completely "there" at The Fonda last night as Simon Green, AKA Bonobo, brought his latest The North Borders accompanied by a band that played almost every instrument imaginable. I couldn't help noticing one guy in the string section who also plays with Portugal the Man. This guy is always having a good time. Vocals were angelic as Szjerdene graced the stage on many numbers. Every musician on stage [...]
