Snot, booze, PRESENTS, snot, booze, snot, booze, hacking cough, booze - pretty sums up Xmas for both of us. Still, happy new year to all and sundry. Here's some tunes that might just lift that early January doom. Mike Watt has joined up with Yuko Araki and Hirotaka Shimizu to put music to 63 Richard Meltzer spoken word pieces - or spiels, as Watt calls 'em, making the project spielgusher . The album's out 17th January from Clenched Wrench , you can read more about it here , and you should buy it because Watt [...]
I tried to match some songs with this new rainy weather we've been getting in the Bay Area... (for what it's worth, All Of Me by Joe Budden is my favorite song.) Erykah Badu - Tyrone BJ The Chicago Kid - Skate SWV - I'm So Into You Lil B - Ms Woman [...]

(Needs More R.A.M.,2011) RIYL = Lightning Bolt, Parts & Labor, Pink & Brown Here's a triple stacker cake-slice of noisy noise-rock for needy ears. Boogie Monster's a duo out of Vancouver that makes Viking noise of the kind used for pillaging small towns. Vikings take note: you'll want Zechimechi blasting from your vessel's speakers when you take shore. Villagers: familiarize yourself with Zechimechi . When you hear it ripping up the air, you are about to be pillaged. That's what this music is about. Honestly, this [...]

This FRIDAY the 13th Winnie is throwing a lil masquerade / goth rave with two of our fave bands that scare the shit out of us and some dj friends. The end of the world is only one week away so we're planning on going out with some style. Fresh off the press from local phenomenon BOOGIE MONSTER . If you have been to see this two piece, then you know first hand how crazy it gets. Boogie Monster are basically the perfect soundtrack to commit murder to. [...]
As we disclosed earlier this year, we got behind on the In Dee Music series for one simple reason - the number of submissions coming in has nearly tripled in the past 16 months, which almost perfectly coincides with the rise in overall monthly visitors during the same time period. IRC is receiving up to [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Macron1 reviews the noise rock album Zechimechi from Boogie Monster. Check out the review here .
Zechimechi by Needs More Ram Records So, record store day goes down tomorrow. And while there's a lot of records have me excited (the Sonic Youth and KRS comp reissues and the Cults 7", in particular), there's also a lot of live performances that do. None more so, though, than Boogie Monster performing Zechimechi in full at Zoo Zhop (and later that night at a house show, playing mostly new stuff). I'd provide some sort of description, but the beauty of the internet 2.0 is that you don't have to [...]
[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] This is dedicated to...me and Maiya! Enjoy!

Photo by Adam Koebel OK so one of our fave Vancouver bands, Fan Death (although they say they are from Christmas Island, which does sounds pretty magical) are opening for one of my other fave bands, Vampy Weekend for their almost completely sold out UK and European dates. As well as Little Boots in NA. AND They are taking one of Vancouver's finest talents to drum for them, the one man spectacle, Mr Tony Dallas (who has graced us on many occasion at our [...]

First off, thanks to the always wonderful MT-40 and the now-on-my-list-of-bands-to-see -as-much-as-possible, No L.A. Kill for playing Damaged Goods on Friday. Second, thanks to Tristan and the guys from Winnie Cooper for putting on one of (if not the) local shows of the year on Saturday at the packed-by-midnight Funky Winkerbean's. I've sung the praises of Basketball, Gang Violence, and Boogie Monster before, and they were amazing as usual, but I should make special note of Babe Rainbow , who rounded out the bill. A lot of you probably already [...]
The best No More Strangers yet. All our favorite people in one night. Video footage to follow. Big thank yous to Boogie Monster , Babe Rainbow (apparently Cam Reed's first live show ever), Gang Violence and Basketball . If you haven't seen Basketball yet, you have a couple more chances, Oct 27th and Dec 2nd with the Japandroids (bad ass) before they once again deprive us and head back to Europe / Barcelona. Next level Gypsy rave isht that will blow your mind. Seriously (no jokes) [...]

I spent the entire second night of Music Waste at the Cobalt as well. That wasn't my initial plan, but I got to Shudder Gallery just as Prophecy Sun was set to start and it was packed and I bailed on heading over to Honey to finish off the evening since Sex Negatives and Boogie Monster were on last at the Cobalt. Speaking of the latter, they were definitely the highlights of a pretty good night all around. If you read this fairly regularly, you know that I'm not opposed [...]

It seems like ages since I've posted about any shows I've seen. Well, it has been ages, actually. Between then and now, I managed to catch Leonard Cohen (who was brilliant--check out Elaine Corden's review ), Boogie Monster (whose wicked set included some noisily re-imagined covers of Kanye and Japandroids), and Piper Davis (who was in her usual fine form at Glory Days). Between then and now, that thing up there also came out (although, they didn't have it at RedCat yet when I went the other day, [...]

On Saturday, I made it out to the original ER for the Sex Negatives 7" release. Seeing as this show was originally booked at the now defunct Peanut Gallery, the "emergency" part of the makeshift venue's name was once again in full effect. Boogie Monster got the evening started. The first time I caught them, at the last Shindig, I wasn't super stoked, though that was mostly due to the fact that Ben's guitar was really hard to hear, especially over Tony's drumming, which made it difficult to form any sort of real opinion at [...]

I've been laid up all day with a burning head and everything is a falling daydream when there's nothing to comfort. But pure love comforts, and right now I'm compelled to recall the several Loves of my life. This isn't about the girls that seem to come and go all too often. This is about the things that have got me through, have always been true, and nurture me inside and out. My first pro skateboard was a Ron Allen H-Street. I saved up for a whole summer and by the time I was 10, I was doing [...]
To be completely honest, the overall quality of the music at Shindig has been sort of lacking this year (although I missed one night and Hermetic were pretty good). Hopefully, yesterday is a sign of things to come, because it was pretty decent on the whole. Things started of with Ben & Goredetsky , a one man act that was okay for the most part and hilarious when he whipped out a cover of a Russian dance tune (complete with dancing). Boogie Monster followed after taking forever to set up (especially for [...]

A HoneyDip is typically considered a very attractive female, especially in the context of the Boogiemonsters classic, "HoneyDips in Gotham". Gotham is a typeface , fictional home of Batman , and as well, a name given to New York City by Washington Irving in 1807. This has always been one of my favorite tracks, and I recently dug up the album to put it back in heavy rotation. It's nice to hear Hip Hop that puts females in a positive light. I wish there were more tracks that [...]
