This week is all about dancing all night. I myself have never actually danced for an entire night - one of the main reasons is I've never found a place I would actually like to do so. My music tastes can be pretty picky so finding appropriate nightlife can be a problem, especially in my home city. I'm more likely to attend a late live gig rather than rave unto the sunlight. I'm also not going to pretend to be an expert on dance music and/or the myriad of electronic subcultures and/or who the best DJs are and/or the techniques [...]

Hello and sorry about the significant lack of action in these pages in recent weeks. Uni and footy have both gone back and I have just been busy with lots of stuff. Saying that though, what I do have for you kids is PLENTY of good new music. Starting Off With Some Disco... As you are probably all aware, 2007 was the year of electro. Releases from the genre were being gobbled up like biccies at a kids picnic (or music festival). Outstanding albums from Boys Noize, Justice, [...]

So I was thinking to myself… Why the fuck is Hot Chip so popular? Well, I went back into my old stuff to get reminded. I found some (still) interesting remixes from a couple years back... Booka Shade DARKO (Hot Chip's The Dream of Karaoke Mix) and the flipside of that coin.... Le Tigre TKO (Hot [...]

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Booka Shade. Movements has become a staple in my eardrums, and their aforementioned DJ Kicks is excellent as well. It was a very pleasant surprise to learn that they just released an expanded version of Movements , including a DVD of their performance to a massive crowd at Pukkelpop . One might question the point of an electronic group releasing a live performance album, but Booka Shade are not your typical knob-twisters. In fact, they don't even [...]
i want your number listen to booka shade's new single, here . one of my favorite upbeat things on a rainy day.

(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...
Its only 11 sleeps until Ministry Of Sound Annual All Day Outdoor Festival @ Supreme Court Gardens to launch off our Summer festival season (I know Parlife but that was Spring). And, as I'm aiming to do for all the festivals this summer, I thought I'd throw together a Mix Ceedee of all the artists involved in the festi'. It is a good lineup for MOS and I'm particualrly looking forward to seeing Bookashade for the first time and Midnight Juggernauts again (As is evident from the doubles on the Ceedee.) Without [...]

(more...)
Booka Shade - Numbers (DJ Kicks) If you've followed along with us for a while, you'll know that we're big fans of the DJ Kicks series of mixes put out by our friends at !K7. The latest version comes from the minimal techno geniuses Booka Shade, and it is a trip. The mix reads like a who's who in dance music from a surprisingly wide swath of styles and eras. From the techno to disco and back, the mix includes tracks by Noze, Lopazz, Carl Craig, Cerrone, John Carpenter, Aphex Twin, The Tubes, Heaven 17, Yazoo, the Streets, and...

Filed under: Electronic , Exclusive , DJ Mix , DJ , RPM Spinner.com : German electro-techno duo Booka Shade shamelessly walk the line between minimal and anthemic with their club-rockin' basslines and funk goodness, earning a fan in Black Eyed Pea Will.I.Am who sampled Shade's 'Body Language' in his own 'Get Your... Booka Shade is set to release a DJ-Kicks on October 22nd, as reported by Pitchfork . The duo was phenomenal when I caught them at Virgin Festival , and I really hope to catch them again next year. I've recently been getting into their first album proper, Memento , and it's remarkable. I haven't listened to many artists that can mix moodiness, head-nodding beats and technological sophistication into such an appealing package. While too abstract to be pop, their music's definitely got an accessibility that some of their peers could [...]

Having just returned from the White Isle slightly confused, sunburnt and dehydrated I'm relishing the posting of a couple of tracks for you (thanks to Haydn for keeping things ship shape in the meantime). Funnily enough I can't say I heard anything amazingly ground braking when I was over there but that wasn't really why I went. I have a bunch of friends who've been going out there every year for a while and always stay in San An. When I first went out to Ibiza 7 years ago I was lucky enough to get into most of the clubs [...]

Back from Belgium's Pukkelpop festival. It was certainly better than I was expecting and fulfilled many of my musical fantasies. The following is a very brief musical overview of Pukkelpop. I will get my camera film developed in time and post my festival in pictures in due course. Thursday: Lo-Fi-FNK kicked it off, after two years waiting to see them, my moment finally came, enjoyable electropop fun, just need to work on their dance moves (hypocrisy) [...]

This weekend, the silence ends. It's been two months almost to the day of my last concert, but that's about to be remedied in a huge way. Dear readers, ÜberDrivel is going to Virgin Festival ! First of all, I can't thank Maria, Bethany and everyone at Virgin for this opportunity. It's incredibly empowering, and I will be sure to provide the most comprehensive, multimedia-filled coverage that I can. This is really one of the few musical experiences that one can't have in NYC, which is saying something. Here are the bands that [...]
I really don't, not really into holiday's in general, don't know why. (I feel like I should be working today.) However, thought I would share some tunes that I've got lying around. To be honest, i don't know where half of these came from. They are just sitting in a folder on my computer, in no particular order, very haphazard. Eeek! Some are quite appropriate for today. (Again, if you celebrate these types of things.) Download Etienne De Crecy Download Bismarke - Bunker Download Electroheadz - That's Hot [...]

Oh I do like me some electronic music from time to time. Goes back to the days when Underworld and Orbital could take your brain to another dimension. Booka Shade are due to perform in Ireland at the Trinity Ball in the next few weeks and it should be some event for the darkly trousered and skimpily dressed ones. Made up of 2 Berliners Booka Shade have been tailoring their rhythms for over 15
