So I saw Booka Shade live at the Music Box in Hollywood last Thursday. Review time. -M The opener was supposed to be Joaquin Bamaca . However, after looking this dude up, he clearly wasn't the guy that we saw on stage. Whoever we DID see, was quite possibly the worst DJ I've ever seen. Not that he fucked up or anything, just the most boring, repetitive songs, terrible transitions, just really awful and boring. Then Booka Shade came on. They were [...]

A different side from the Berlin Outfit known for creating up-tempo, dance-floor, semi techno tunes. Paper plans is a nice stoney down-tempo groover, with a wicked bass synth, along side soothing strings. I'm not really a fan of there music, but I dig this track. BOOKA SHADE - PAPER PLANES

Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier have had a lengthy career, but it was their 2008 album, The Sun & The Neon Light that redefined what it meant to be Booka Shade , adding leaps to the baby steps away from minimal techno first put into motion with 2006's Movements . Suddenly their artistic agenda became fully realized, their sound infused with vocals that expertly played into what was a manifesto on refined beatmaking. This year Booka Shade returns and steps further forward with a collection of spaced-out dancefloor churners titled, More! . [...]
So Boy 8 Bit (Roy Apron) just did an essential mix and its chocked full of goodness. He's been an artist that's consistently and successfully eluded categorization. He's dropped baltimore heaters, banging big room, quality tech house, and everything in between. If I remember correctly he was big fan of drum n bass early on [...]

I've been keeping an eye on the UK's Bowski for a few months now. The up and comer is putting out great house music with a distinctive techno twist. He describes it as "playful techno" and I think that suits his sound pretty well. Its fun, interesting, and most importantly, very danceable music. Below I've posted his recent remix of Booka Shade's 'Regnerate' which is truly great, and his original track 'Hooves' which has been a favorite of mine as of late. Booka Shade - Regenerate (Bowski Remix) [...]

It's Friday, Gucci Mane is out, the weather is nice, and school is almost over. Here's another one of my playlists to conclude the week. Happy tune'n! I finally found some time to mention Mastiksoul 's "Baila Bonito" EP that dropped in early May. The aged house pioneer teams ups with vocalist, Marta Carlim, on one funky, sampled club hit. Seems like anything with the 'Mastiksoul' brand sneaks its way into my playlist. You can pick up the full release, with a radio edit and the original, HERE [...]

Still buzzing from Flynn's "Hotel Rooms" EP? Well now you have another masterpiece to look forward too. Tom Flynn adds his techy touch to the Booka Shade original 'Regenerate.' Out soon as another addition to the BS remix compilations. Enjoy, and be sure to grab that Tim Green bonus remix! Booka Shade - Regenerate (Tom Flynn Remix) [...]
Electric Picnic has been regarded by some as Ireland's answer to Glastonbury. Judging by the line-up released on Wednesday, I'd argue it might have a more interesting bill than Glasto this year. '70s glam rockers Roxy Music will play their first Irish festival performance ever at Electric Picnic, after having reformed long after we diehards had assumed they'd never play together ever again. I think seeing Bryan Ferry croon his way through 'Love is the Drug' and 'Avalon' is worth the price of admission alone. However, if [...]
After founding the Get Physical Records label, Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier released Memento , their first album together as Booka Shade in 2002. On their 2006 followup Movements , the Berlin electrohouse duo inventively combined ambient and trance elements with a house groove. With their genre-blending Movements , Kammermeier and Merziger reached new levels of critical acclaim and dancefloor success, thanks to an album just as enjoyable on the dance floor as it is at home. However, their 2008 followup The Sun & the Neon Light was more ominously brooding than thrilling. [...]

Booka Shade esta de vuelta oficialmente con More!, todo un discazo! Quieres ejemplos? Pues checa el vídeo para Bad Love, su primer single. Booka Shade - Bad Love (Vídeo):

booka shade 's fourth album ' more! ' was released a couple of weeks ago.. did you check it out? after a less than excited reception, you might be forgiven for missing it.. despite that, i felt like there were a few high points on the album - the melodious, understated 'teenage spaceman' was a triumph, and loungey bouncefest 'the door' certainly was enjoyable.. their selection for first single however was ' bad love ' which is very nearly ruined by some over-earnest vocals.. it is a lush piece of work though- probably worth checking out . [...]

Cue largely ostentatious voiceovers, crossover guitars and vocoded unintelligible utterances; Booka Shade return with their fourth LP proper. In this day and age of instantaneously available ear candy, dance music travels at evolutionary progressions more vigorously jolting than a sunrise spent straddling a pylon at Creamfields. German minimal house overlords Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger ought to be aware of such fluctuating winds by now, having scaled palm-wetting heights with hook-laden dancefloor incinerators Body Language and Charlotte. And yet More! finds the pair staring into a gale force torrent, their musical stylings transfixed in a paralleled lull of [...]
