How's your French? I watched this twice last night before going out - 1969 footage from a French documentary on the Stax and Muscle Shoals sound. The description bills its 11 minutes as featuring "Brook Benton & Booker T. & The MGs recording sessions and The The Mar-keys working out a horn arrangement" but what [...]
As mentioned in the inaugural Videodrome post last month, the recurring series is an effort to highlight some of the more exceptional videos and/or performances we stumble upon out there in the ether. This week we're looking at some footage from 1968 - an intimate live performance of Booker T. & The MG's doing "Booker-Loo" [...]

Download: Yonas Michael - Lost in Hollywood Yonas Michael, formerly of U-N-I, is back with a genre-defying new album, Lost in Hollywood, that draws on everything from hip-hop to doo-wop, R&B to punk rock and everything in between. The project features 14 original tracks, including the highly rated PUNKS and House of Women. Joining Yonas on Lost in Hollywood are Warm Weather, Booker T, Phil Ade and more. Production comes courtesy of Aj Subat, Faahz, Mainframe, Ro Blvd and others. The [...]

I'll be the first to admit that my introduction to electronic music started with UK Garage, growing up with such a prolific scene and distinct sound has definitely played a huge role in where my musical taste has landed today. Alex Agore has just uploaded this mix of incredible tracks that take me back to my youth and Nike TN hats. Although from Berlin I'm almost certain the mysterious Alex Agore once resided in the UK as his productions very much suit that heritage. His SoundCloud profile states that he isn't a DJ [...]
Booker T. Jones - Progress (feat. Yim Yames)
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Exclusive , Q + A Vintage Festival Britain's music tastes have always been informed by international influences as much as they have been by homegrown talent but no other country makes the link between fashion and music with the same degree of passion or finesse. Be it 50s Teddy Boys, 60s Mods, 70s Glam or the baggy clothing favoured by 80s ravers, it's always been the British that have led [...]

A totally refreshing ear-fest from the god-head of the Hammond organ. ★★★★★ One of the original designers of funk-soul-Rhythm & Blues, Booker T. Jones (yep ...as in Booker T and the MGs ) proves to 2011 that he is very much alive and has lost NONE of his gift of musical prowess or creativity. He is still a valid visionary among who there are very, very few. A vibrant soul, hopelessly kind, musically warm, Booker has a thing or three for anyone [...]
Keb' Mo' has been added to the lineup for the XPoNential Music Festival the weekend of July 22nd-24th. Keb' will be playing a special solo acoustic show on the River Stage on Saturday, July 23rd. Keb' will be playing a full band show at at Longwood Gardens on September 17th, however you'll be able to see him on the bill that day at XPo Fest with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, Booker T, Sun Airway, Dar Williams, Artist To Watch Givers, Hezekiah Jones & Andrew Lipke, and David Uosikkinen's In [...]
"I'm pretty sure this is the coolest thing we've ever done behind the Tiny Desk." - Bob Boilen Booker T. Jones was recently featured on his Hammond B3 organ for NPR's Tiny Desk concert series. This stripped down video series is a personal favorite of mine for its raw and personal qualities, but it also should be commended for its focus on all music - no [...]

Soul and R&B legend Booker T is playing Saturday, July 23rd, at WXPN's XPoNential Music Festival along with Ted Leo And The Pharmacists, Givers, Sun Airway, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and others. Booker's new album, The Road To Memphis, is produced by Questlove of The Roots and features members from The Roots. Below, a new video for a song, "Progress," which features Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket . The XPoNential Music Festival is July 22-24th at Wiggins Park, Camden NJ. You can buy tickets to the XPoNential Music Festival here [...]
Legendary boogie rocker Booker T recently put out an album, The Road from Memphis, that found him being backed up by the Roots and produced by Questlove. The album also features vocal performances from the likes of Matt Berninger, Biz Markie, Lou Reed, and Jim James, who shows up to sing on "Progress" the new video from Booker T. We don't get to see James at all-- instead we're treated to a trip through what 20th century progress has given us: cities, trains, highways and factories. It's a dusty, beautiful video for a dusty, beautiful song. [...]
I'm psyched to see the video for "Progress" has finally dropped, that new Booker T. jam featuring Yim Yames from his latest album, The Road From Memphis . The song got sent around to the blogs a few weeks back and the video was finally released today. Check it. I may get a chance to see him in the flesh when he rolls through San Francisco in September and he's making a few random stops across the globe ahead of that... [...]

If you're a fan of soul music even a little (or love the sound of a Hammond organ), I shouldn't have to explain the historical relevance of Booker T. Jones to you. But just in case you need a little prodding to go see him at the Satellite next Thursday June 16th ( buy tickets ), here are ten facts about him. I'm also giving away some tickets, so email me [dukeufo at gmail] with the name of your favorite Stax single. The contest closes Monday at 3:00 PM and winners will be notified Monday night. [...]

ARTIST: Booker T. Jones - [Album] DATE: 06-04-11 REVIEW BY: Bill Adams As fashionably jaded as some music fans and critics are prone to being in the new millennium, some things are undeniable. Some sounds just have that THING which you'll feel from the first beat of the first song; it'll hit you and move you. That sound can compel you to do something – either make you swing with it, make [view more]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Getty Images (2) Sharon Jones has the Dap-Kings to thank for her growing reputation as one of the top figures of the soul revival, but she's also quickly turning into one of the most sought after collaborators in the business. She may not necessarily be a household name, but she's become a go-to figure for any musician looking for a powerful singer. [...]
