This weekend, we made the trek to Kansas City for a show. Actually, we made the trek to KC for a set. Laura Stevenson and the Cans had put out a call for help on Twitter a couple weeks ago, looking for a show to fill a whole in their ...
So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let's call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won't be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren't worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]

- Boom Chick is a Surf/Blues/Rock & Roll duo from Brooklyn, NY. Frank Hoier handles guitar, slide guitar and vocals while girlfriend Moselle Spiller, looking like a hotter reincarnated Karen Carpenter, celebrates being a powerful femme drummer as she rocks out with long hair, long dresses and long eyelashes. While comparisons will automatically be made [...]

Song: "Shake Can Well" Artist: Boom Chick I never, ever thought that the directions/warnings on an aerosol can could be converted into foot-stompin' rock 'n roll mayhem, but that is precisely what Boom Chick have accomplished with this tune. I honestly listened to this song three or four times before even scrolling down the page to learn that fact, which is a testament to this song's guitar-lick-and-drum-pumping catchiness on its own. Pay closer attention and you might be able to figure out which brand name product you'll find these words on. [...]

I almost let this guy slip past my radar. The indie alt-country fun of The David Mayfield Parade instantly caught my attention with his catchy, upbeat songs full of humor and showmanship. Mayfield is a Grammy-nominated artist and often plays with The Avett Brothers (so he's got some credibility here, folks). Just watch below and you'll understand. The David Mayfield Parade will be playing at the Camel tonight along with Boom Chick [...]

Guitar/drum duo Boom Chick will be playing at the Yerb (a new super secret music venue!) tonight (Sept. 15) and their music is insanely catchy. Check the Facebook event page and ask around for the location.
For you poor bastards that didn't make The Deep Blues Festival, here's the first taste i've seen. Watch and weep: THX to Chris and April !
BOOM CHICK | Show Pony [Boom Chick] On their debut album, Moselle Spiller and Frank Hoier go straight to the grimy, messy heart of rock 'n' roll. Spiller's slapstick drumming blends seamlessly with Hoier's blues riffs and simple vocals to create a sound that evokes both Bo Diddley and early White Stripes. (Boom Chick's boy/girl [...]

DOWNLOAD: Boom Chick - "Ghost of Bo Diddley" DOWNLOAD: Boom Chick - "Cryin' Rooster" Frank Hoier got a lot of notice back in '08 for his disc Lovers & Dollars , which which NPR called a " memorable collection of Americana songs. " He has now teamed up with designer-turned-drummer Moselle Spiller and formed the blues/garage rock band Boom Chick. At just one year old, Boom Chick's first year was packed with countless sweaty loft parties, constant creation in the [...]

Boom Chick was born in Brooklyn when songwriter Frank Hoier invited artist Moselle Spiller to sit at a drum kit. Despite it being her first time ever playing percussion, a simple suggestion of 1 2 3 4 on the hit hat, with a boom-chick (kick-snare), & Moselle was naturally playing a beat. Fast-forward through countless sweaty Brooklyn loft dance parties, constant rehearsal & performing, & in less than a year Boom Chick has captured its living breathing sounds on 23 tape. Recorded mostly live with minimal overdubs, Show Pony (Out November 30th) has all the love [...]
