Funkadelic guitarist extraordinaire Eddie Hazel's lone solo album finally available on CD.
Filed under: News Mark Metcalfe, Getty Images It's rare that Bootsy Collins brings anything but good feelings, but the funk bassist has taken to Twitter and Facebook with some rather sad news: Soul legend Bobby Womack is suffering from colon cancer . Earlier today, Collins tweeted that Womack had been hospitalized for pneumonia, Hypetrak reports, but he later updated the singer's condition, revealing that he's been diagnosed with early-stage [...]

Last night, J-Fal (or, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon ) put together the best party any child's parents could ask for: Erykah Badu, Biz Markie, Bootsy Collins, The Roots, and Yo Gabba Gabba! all performed together on stage, debuting a new song, "We're Gonna Party Today". Although George Clinton didn't surface, there was plenty of old-school funk to be had, which led to one bold lesson: Great grooves make great friends. The best part, however, comes around 2:30 when Black Thought chimes in - what a bad ass. Once again, how is this not Emmy award-winning material?
Having The Roots as your backing bands, pretty much secured Jimmy Fallon was going to own late night in musical performances. Yo Gabba Gabba stopped by last night, and brought a bunch of friends with them. Friends including Biz Markie , Erykah Badu , Mark Mothersbaugh , and Boosty Collins . Wow. One of the more diverse, and entertaining performance s, you will see at 1:30 in the morning. We're going to party today.

Last month Bootsy Collins showed up in the Chicago studios of Sound Opinions for what turned out to be a terrific interview. Really, it's a history lesson as seen through star-shaped rainbow sunglasses. The legendary bass playing alien is the human embodiment of funk. Bootsy started out with his brother Catfish before being picked up by James Brown in what was actually a sly firing of the previous incarnation of the JB's. There's a lot of great stuff on James' heyday plus the nuts and bolts of funks music origins. From Brown, Bootsy finds another [...]

Social Media has made itself useful. The internet has inspired citizens across the globe to organize and revolt. Americans are a bit slow to catch on but with so many ways to amuse ourselves can you really blame us? The iphone 4 s is taking pre-orders, the holiday console gaming season is underway and Boardwalk Empire is just getting warm. I'm all for college kids talking a break from the bong and controller for some good old fashion protest but do we have the staying [...]

Wireimage/Getty Images VMA weekend got started last night in high fashion - pun totally intended - as the BMI Urban Awards were held in honor of Snoop Dogg . The legendary rapper was presented with the BMI Icon Award for his classic body of work by his friend and mentor, Dr. Dre , and saw many of those hits performed in a tribute by Wiz K halifa, Bootsy Collins, Charlie Wilson, Warren G, and The Game . The accolades also poured in for Drake [...]

You have to love the spirit of legendary psychedelic funk pioneer frontman Sly Stone as most recently celebrated in I'm Back! Family & Friends (Cleopatra). It's a jam session with musicians from far-flung ends of the genre spectrum who also claim status as fans of Sly and The Family Stone coming to together to funk. This soul cauldron bubbles up with guitarist Jeff Beck coming in on "I Want To Take You Higher." I always find it interesting to see the names of musical guests and contributors I'm familiar with somewhere I don't expect; I literally thought while listening, "Hey, I didn't know [...]
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and iconic bassist Bootsy Collins has pioneered funk along with Parliament Funkadelic and James Brown....

It still hasn't phased me that it's already July, summer and the start of Ottawa Bluesfest 2011. Just say the first day was loud, epic and out of this world. Who I saw on July 5, 2011 were: Coheed & Cambria Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes The Flaming Lips [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , New Releases Charley Gallay, Getty Images 'I'm Back!' -- Fans have been waiting nearly 30 years for soul sensation Sly Stone to make such a proclamation and it finally happened today (July 4), with news of a comeback album of sorts: 'I'm Back! Family & Friends,' due out August 16. Though Cleopatra Records signed the musical icon several years ago, nothing has come of [...]
