I'm emerging from the three day whirlwind that was Austin Psych Fest in which I experienced the gamut of emotions. There were the highs: a picturesque locale along the Colorado River, delicious Tito's Vodka Infusions (like lemon/ginger), and music, so much music! Then there were the lows: A torrential downpour (mud.everywhere), and an unfortunate situation with ant hill. First came the rain, then came the mud. [...]

While Boris could be playing in a whole other genre in their future releases, Prparat , a highly limited vinyl-only release, is a concise, well-structured LP that brings a little bit of everything that makes this band great to the table. Bands like Japan's Boris pose a huge dilemma to record store owners that have to organize their albums by section. How exactly does the drone classic Amplifier Worship fit in the same aisle as the dream-pop of New Album? The easy solution is, of course, to make tags like "experimental" or "avant-garde," a convenient way to gloss [...]

The album is a bit like tourism, with Boris dabbling in radio metal, math rock, and new wave. In a sense, Boris are deconstructing the genres, but doing nothing to move said genres forward. [...]
I'm taking tonight off from my weekly Sunday Mix Tape, and I'll post one tomorrow night. I just walked into my house and it's past midnight. Where was I, you ask? Well…this is going to be hard for me to say, but I was engaged in some of the nerdiest possible activities one could imagine. [...]

The largely instrumental 12-track piece, which is available to stream below, is set for release March 19. The band will be heading out on a European tour with an additional fourth member (Niall Kennedy) on guitar), starting on March 22 at [...]

WOAH!!
Wow. And just like that, we have almost reached the 300th mix tape in the history of Swan Fungus. How fitting that it should occur just a handful of days after the 8th anniversary of my first blog post. I'll try to make next Sunday a big, special installment for you. No, it won't contain [...]
Here in SoCal, where the weather is always 100% perfect and meteorologists have the easiest jobs in the world, it's raining tonight. Turn on your local news station and their weather guy or gal - for perhaps the only time in the next calendar year - won't be saying, "Seventy-five degrees and sunny" as the [...]
Debut out March 19. The post Listen to new Ensemble Pearl track "Painting on a Corpse" appeared first on Treble: Music news, reviews, interviews and more .

Before hearing a note by Ensemble Pearl, the new collaboration by Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley, Atsuo (Boris), Michio Kurihara (Ghost/Boris), and William Herzog (Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter), I already had a good idea of what to expect - Slow, as in turtle in molasses slow tempos and suffocating drones. It's what O'Malley does. As "Painting on a Corpse" shows, I was only half right. The first track released from their forthcoming Drag City album (3/19) , has an O'Malley tempo, for sure, and it has those dark, elemental vibes down well, too. However, [...]

The fancy vinyl reissue of Sleep's proto-stoner classic Dopesmoker has been on high rotation at Flavorpill central now that we've descended into the depths of winter, and the necessity to get up and flip the LP halfway through has got us thinking about other great records that contain precisely one track. It's a pleasantly music geeky topic to address for a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and we've amused ourselves by scouring our iTunes library for some of our favorite albums by artists with one-track minds. As it were. Check out our selections after the jump, and let us know [...]
A celebration of metal. The post Pet Grief : Metal Health appeared first on Treble: Music news, reviews, interviews and more .
Prior to My Bloody Valentine's breaking of the Internet with the release of 'm b v' on February 2nd, Japanese shoegaze bands released an amazing tribute to the 1991 album "Loveless."

Japan's own metal sludge-rockers Boris have revealed plans for a residency tour of the U.S. The trio will hit seven cities for two nights each. Night one will be filled with all the hits, plus a load of new songs never before performed on American soil. The second night, however, will see Boris perform their one-track, 70:32 minute 2000 album Flood in its entirety, followed by a set of straight up experimental noise and drone. If you like your music loud and mucky - and want a chance to snag the limited edition tour-only [...]

![[Listen] Boris: “Sometimes” (My Bloody Valentine Cover)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4749134_lg.jpg)
