We're starting off with some upcoming Pittsburgh events-concerts and music-oriented festivals-and some local bands [...]

I believe that the blogosphere is quite abuzz with Grimes . Canadian Claire Boucher is working hard right now, she is in demand. That is why the relatively small space afforded by Lambert’s must have been an early, but fortunate, booking. It was fortunate because it was such an intimate space for Grimes and openers Born Gold , but unfortunate because more could have said that they got to see her before SxSW this year. There were sound issues, weird and then no lighting, props galore for the opener, shoulder to shoulder dancing and [...]

I’ll admit, I was torn this day. As a fan of Cursive, it was a tough decision to turn down seeing the band perform that night and see Grimes at the Rickshaw Stop. Also I’d heard many flattering things about Austin’s Ume (who was opening for Cursive that night) and her full-on rock onslaught. So my decision came down to who I hadn’t seen yet, and while I’ve seen Cursive and Tim Kasher a few times already, I couldn’t pass up seeing the Rickshaw Stop’s impressive line-up of psychedelic electro-freak acts. The Bay’s own Yalls, the theatrical Born Gold, the [...]

Date Wednesday, Feb. 29th Location Grimes Doors 930p Tickets SOLD OUT!! It's a shame and a bonus that the much heralded Grimes is playing at Lamberts on Wednesday evening. On the plus side, she sold the show out rather quickly, but on the down side, fewer people will get [...]

photos by Christopher Meister Canadian Claire Boucher has been making tidal waves in the indiesphere of late as Grimes , an experimental electro-pop act whose 3rd full-length, Visions , recently got a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork Media and is trending at a solid 80 on review aggregate site Metacritic . While her self-proclaimed "post-internet" synth pop thrills through speakers, it's always a do-or-die endeavor for a solo artist to produce an equally gripping live show. Fortunately for her fans, she managed just that last Monday at a sold-out Sunset [...]

Sleigh Bells at Sasquatch! 2011 / photo by Alex Crick A nice extended weekend (President's Day), usually leads to a good week of shows. This week starts with Grimes at the Sunset Tavern on Monday night (sold out, sorry!). On Tuesday, Veronica Falls, Bleached , and Seapony are at the Tractor, and Damien Jurado plays a free in-store set at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard. Wednesday night, the extremely talented Cate Le Bon and Charles Leo Gebhardt are at the Crocodile, and Chuck Prophet and the [...]

Ask yourself this, what’s better than a vulnerable, angst driven gangster rapper casually calling out a broad on a killer track? Well that’s easy, the above could be done by using Ryan Hemsworth's Grimes-approved remix of "Genesis". Fortunately for us, that’s exactly what North Carolinian rapper Deniro Farrar did a few days back, and obviously the result is all kinds of trill. I’m going to skip my spiritual seminar as to not offend any loyal followers, but I must say that this track is fate. In case you [...]

Great dudes collaborating with great dudes, with a ton of great dudes involved. That’s the only way I can describe the debut cassette release for UK clothing company, Forty Ounce Clothing . They do an amazing job of not just making some killer peicies to put on your body, but of teaming up with artists and bloggers to help integrate music into their identity. If you remember, I put together a mix for them when they released my sister Steffaloo’s shirt. This time around, they are teaming up with one of our all-time favorite labels, [...]

After a little hiatus that involved far too much sitting in a small room studying, I'm finally ready to dive back into the world of music and blogging. I've come across several songs that I plan on posting soon, but I'm going to start off with the song that I heard a few months ago, but didn't really like until a few days ago. Born Gold is a band that recently changed their name from Gobble Gobble and thank goodness for that because when I heard this song a few months ago, I refused to like [...]

Florida doesn't have the best history with alternative-rock music festivals, but that hasn't stopped Orlando's Orange You Glad from going strong for four years. The festival's 2012 iteration, set for March 8-11th, packs its biggest bill yet. Cults, Grimes, Tennis, Everything is Terrible, and Born Gold have already been confirmed, and today the festival added Fake Problems, Zambri, Mr. Gnome, Grandchildren, Deleted Scenes, and more. Check out the festival's current lineup at our Festival Outlook and stay tuned for further lineup announcements. We're also excited to announce that Consequence of Sound will be [...]

Tickets are moving fast for her February 18th show at Fortune Sound Club. Grimes sold out her last outing to the Electric Owl. Strange song title with an equally strange song... This is electro-indie group Born Gold , and they come from up north in good old Canadia. This song "Lawn Knives" from their 2011 released Bodysongs, is a two minute quick firing ditty of complexity. This song is so phunky that you can't help but stop and notice as you listen to what sounds like someone playing Nintendo competing with a DJ. Check 'er out. by teepoo Formerly Gobble Gobble, Cecil Fena now goes under the moniker of Born Gold. Lawn Knives would probably be the perfect introduction to his music if you haven't heard of him yet. It's just so damn catchy in all it's synth sparkles. If you're not "OOooo"ing along with him by the end of this you must not be human. Born Gold- Lawn Knives There is something creepy about the children in this video: [...]
