I've been battling a head cold all weekend. It sure does suck! Of course, lest you think I would deprive you of a Sunday Mix Tape, here I am to help alleviate those fears. RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or [...]

>> Well it certainly is glorious, and it is out today: Sheffield, England-based pop savants Screaming Maldini have loosed the lead single from its pending eponymous full-length debut. The single, "Life In Glorious Stereo" b/w "Minor Alterations," is available from the act's French label HipHipHip right here . We've previously heralded the top side of the release, but only more recently have we been able to tuck into the B side. "Minor Alterations" is a mid-tempo but bombastic power ballad, slightly more laid back than some Maldini platters but still all Maldini. The [...]

photo by Christopher Nelson Talk about a strong start to the week. We start off Monday night with one of the biggest acts to come to Seattle this year, Radiohead , performing to a sold out Key Arena. Also in town, Band of Skulls and We Are Augustines are at Neptune Theatre, while Andrew Bird is at the Paramount Theatre, and Codeine is at the Sunset. On Tuesday night, Miike Snow and Penguin Prison are at the Paramount, Explosions In The Sky [...]

about 4 years ago, i made a little introduction to one of my favorite bands, chicago's silkworm. sadly, they are no longer as they broke up after the death of drummer michael dalqhuist . michael was in a car accident in a northern suburb of chicago which was caused by a "model" who was attempting to commit suicide. sadly, she was not killed, but michael and two other chicago musicians, doug meis and john glick. very sad, shit. well, i have never stopped listening to em, as they put out some of my favorite records from 902s/002s [...]

State Champion has a new record called Deep Shit out on Sophomore Lounge, and the band is playing an album release show this week with Obits and Bottomless Pit . It's this Thursday (Oct. 20) at the old Pour Haus (now Club 21), and I'm not sure if the place will be standing after this hootenanny. In honor of the auspicious occasion, we're giving away a pair of tickets and the new State Champ LP on vinyl to one lucky [...]

Michael Nhat – Falling Down A Bottomless Pit

Words by Brendan Sullivan I tend to seek out new music at a feverish and arguably self-destructive pace, so it's always nice when someone recommends a band to me and I end up enjoying it. Case in point: Bottomless Pit . A few weeks ago, a buddy told me about an upcoming show at Howlers that I'd probably enjoy, so after a long day at school I bussed into Bloomfield and caught an evening of four bands, capped by a stellar performance by this quartet of Chicagoans, full of mostly mellowish classic-rock guitar-driven [...]
It's hard not to read too much into Blood Under the Bridge , but that's because the album offers so much to chew on. Bottomless Pit bears more baggage from the past than probably any other underground act. For starters, there's the shadow cast by its previous incarnation as Silkworm and the distinctive sound that the songwriting duo of Andy Cohen and Tim Midgett created for that could-have-been indie favorite. But the much heavier burden for Cohen and Midgett to bear has been the sad circumstance that led to the dissolution of their previous act and the founding [...]
Bottomless Pit - "38 Souls" from the 2010 album Blood Under the Bridge on Comedy Minus One.

Back from a little summer hiatus, here's a special doubleshot edition of Drake's Take . -ed. Drake's Take: New Releases 08.10.10-08.17.10 I've been out of town on vacation, so the blog's taken a backseat, but wanted to throw together something for the past two weeks because of two releases - the second release from Bottomless Pit and the finely crafted soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs the World . Not much else got me out of my seat, but then again, most everyone takes at least part of the [...]

Bottomless Pit was formed in the fall of 2005 by erstwhile Silkworm members Tim Midgett and Andy Cohen. Their longtime friends Chris Manfrin (Seam) and Brian Orchard (.22) complete the quartet. Blood Under the Bridge is the third record and second full-length by Bottomless Pit. The album explores the awful and thrilling randomness of fate, with a hard fix on the future. Affectionate and brusque, languid and bracing - it is nearly peerless modern postpunk. [ioda] Bottomless Pit Website Social Media: Facebook | [...]

I've been out of town on vacation, so the blog's taken a backseat, but wanted to throw together something for the past two weeks because of two releases -- the second release from Bottomless Pit and the finely crafted soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs the World . Not much else got me out of my seat, but then again, most everyone takes at least part of the first half or so of August off, right? Other new releases from the past couple cycles include one's from New Pornographer Kathryn Calder, Ray Lamontagne, The Budos Band, Matthew Dear, Elsinore, Eli [...]

With all of the buzz surrounding last week's release of Arcade Fire's their third album, The Suburbs, it has a way of overshadowing other new releases. Has it really already been three years since Bottomless Pit put out their debut Hammer of the Gods ? That just almost seems crazy to me and at the same time makes me a bit sad. It gets me wondering how little time I actually get to spend revisiting albums like that as opposed to constantly seeking out the new. No matter, Bottomless Pit have put those thoughts at ease for now as they have a new record on their hands titled Blood [...]
