I've been highlighting a new local artist of the week for about four months now and I thought it would be a good idea to put together a recap of who has all been spotlighted thus far. The list below includes a stream of an album or EP from each artist. Looking back on it, that's an impressive lineup of artists to come out of one city. The best part of it all is that most of these artists are still considered up and comers. The Princes, Atmospheres, Replacements of the world haven't even been talked about. Talk about job [...]

Botzy (Adam Botsford), better known for his work with ska group Culture Cry Wolf , drew my initial attention for his work on The Best Love is Free compilation album. Since 2010, Deaf to the Static records has worked with various organizations and artists such as Botzy to put together an annual compilation album to be distributed for free - 'cause who doesn't like free music? Their goal is simple, expose great music to new ears and bring artists closer together. New in the past two [...]
Raise your hand if you love hip-hop... Good. Now, keep your hands raised if you dig freestyle cyphers... Great. Now, get ready to enjoy one of the iller cyphers we've seen in a minute featuring a bunch of MCs we now have to keep on our radar. We're already familiar with the work of Toki Wright and MaLLy , both of whom get the mic last. But - in order of appearance - we need to now keep up with Sean Anonymous, Phillip Morris, Wize Guyz, Botzy (of Culture Cry Wolf), Lizzo, Ceewhy, and St. Paul Slim. Hit the skip to watch.

The Best Love Is Free is an annual event and compilation album organized by Deaf to the Static Records and Hopeful Opus Productions. The video above is a fantastic cypher recorded for The Best Love is Free, featuring several local artists. In order of appearance are: Sean Anonymous, Phillip Morris, Wize Guyz, Botzy (of Culture Cry Wolf), Lizzo, Ceewhy, St. Paul Slim, MaLLy, and Toki Wright. The event is taking place this Saturday at the Fine Line Music Cafe in downtown Minneapolis. All attendees get the free compilation CD upon entry. You can purchase tickets online [...]
The actual Dia de los Muertos (Tuesday, Nov 1st) saw the release of Culture Cry Wolf's album of the same name, and tomorrow night at the Fine Line, the band celebrates with a show sure to be as full

Well this is it, the top 10 albums of the year. Based on a lot of lists I've seen around the web, mine will be quite a bit different than most, but hopefully that will expose more people to different music as well. Be sure to check back tomorrow for my songs of the year. 10. Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me [...]

The way the discovery of this album happened has to be one of the strangest routes to an album I've made this year. At the local record store in town, The Electric Fetus , there is a box where artists can drop off their albums for people to grab for free. Well, I'm always on the lookout for new music and am always grabbing one of them, and one day grabbed a mix of about 10 songs by different artists. One of them was " All But Elegant " by Botzy (of Culture Cry Wolf ). It sounded [...]
