Back in December, Bowerbirds picked up some long-overdue attention when they dropped the lead single off their forthcoming The Clearing LP. While some of the hype was perhaps mere drooling over the fact that the set was recorded at Bon Iver's Wisconsin studio, the strength of the tune itself, "Tuck The Darkness In," made all the praise well-deserved regardless. Now, with last year's Justin Vernon endorsement fully digested, comes a second taste from their third full-length: "In The Yard," in which Beth Tacular steps forward on lead vocals before more beautiful harmonies and nuanced progressive folk [...]

True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today's age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]
In today's post, we have a 2nd track from the forthcoming Bowerbirds album The Clearing , which I have to say is getting me more and more excited; we have a new track off a new Woodpigeon EP For Paolo that is pretty damn awesome; we have a couple tracks that I like from bands I don't know much about, some that I know a little more about ( Said the Whale , Damien Jurado ), and we have the "slow version" of Superchunk 's absolutely brilliant 2009 B-side "Blinders", the [...]

Having previously shared album opener ' Tuck the Darkness In ' back in December, Bowerbirds are now giving us a further peek into what lies ahead on 'The Clearing', their forthcoming third album. New track, 'In The Yard' is an adventurous yet accessible slice of confessional folk music that once again ups the anticipation for their new LP. After a week away, it was nice to be back in the studio. This week I played several folk-related tunes, a few garage-based ones, and a small handful of indie pop tracks. With the amount of indie-folk I've played of late, I'm thinking we're in store for another dreamy mix and maybe even a garage rock mix in the near future. Andi and I have been on a DIY kick of late and a recent project has been homemade laundry detergent. With the three ingredients displayed in the photo above, along [...]

"In The Yard" is the latest track off Bowerbirds' upcoming release that offers an insightful and ambitious take on the band's unique style in a clamored indie pop world. Not unlike "Tuck the Darkness In" the song's production is no less absorbent of all it's lushness (like a Be Here Now for twee folk). Check out The Clearing via Dead Oceans on March 6, and you can catch Bowerbirds on tour throughout the spring. Bowerbirds - In The Yard Bowerbirds [...]

Friday, February 3, 2012 Today's Quick Mention: Noah covered pretty much all the big releases hitting theaters this weekend, so you should click on the film section and check out what's worth seeing. And now, music and words. Enjoy. : Cursive - Wowowow : My love of Cursive usually leaves me biased enough to like whatever they put out, but I have to admit that I'm legitimately excited about the new full length. The [...]

Bowerbirds are getting ready to get up in your grill and harmonize the shit out of you with The Clearing. The Clearing is coming out on March 6th via Dead Oceans. I have to say I have never been a massive fan of these guys but I am loving both of these tracks. So that means that they have suddenly become much better or that I was a dope and completely overlooked their previous efforts. Your opinion is welcomed below. Says the PR Machine: Throughout The Clearing, Bowerbirds' Beth Tacular and Phil Moore share the [...]
Filed under: News , Monthly Mixtape Dusdin Condren, Elise Rasmussen, Collier Schorr January 2012 was weird. Newt Gingrich reinflated his balloon-man arms with super PAC cash, Beyonce and Jay-Z birthed the world's smallest overlord and Kim Dotcom became a Internet legend. With ever-growing evidence that the end of the world is nigh, we at Spinner have realized that life is too short to sweat the small stuff. So forget the daily hullabaloo and check [...]

Mick Rock I will be the first to admit to not really being able to tell where Bradford Cox's Deerhunter ends and his Atlas Sound begins. I know that the former is ostensibly a band and the latter a solo project, but to my ears the hazy, psychedelic rock that each project produces isn't exactly a world apart. Okay, Atlas Sound is more keys, less guitars, but they're both critically adored and don't really do a lot for me, despite on paper being the sort of thing I should totally dig. [...]
