Very often, the need to create does not manifest via singular passion but instead in a variety of artistic endeavors. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Goethe, the list of polymaths throughout history is extensive. In fact, during the Renaissance period, a gentleman was expected to speak several languages, play a musical instrument, write poetry, and generally dabble in arts and sciences of all variety. To translate that for you, it's like every dude was a walking internet machine and shit - damn! While science and art don't dance together in one person's mind as often as [...]

Okay first feature really, but whose counting. So no posts in awhile cause of school and work, but as some of you know I have to work late on Wednesdays (today) and am allowed to be on my laptop. Instead of watching movies I will search for songs and post them Live from the AMU. So look out for that tonight. Here our some not newly found songs you might like. O yeah again go Giants . Immaculate Machine - Dear Confessor Jack Penate - [...]
Dead Oceans will issue an expanded edition of the highly touted Bowerbirds release, Hymns for a Dark Horse . The new version will also have several bonus tracks, as well as a release on vinyl for the first time. There will also be a new album further down the line, as well as a tour with Phosporescent leading up to SXSW. This is excellent stuff here folks, if you haven't heard it before. Sort of sea shanty, meets log cabin folk, with heavy sways of drama throughout this instant classic of a record. audio: [...]

BT: No, I am actually in the car, with Phil, who is driving, from the Airstream to Raleigh, where we are going to work at a coffee shop on a website for a friend. We have this mobile Internet thing through a wireless plan. [...]

It's so neat for me to listen to songwriters and really feel as if they aren't bullshitting me. Honestly I mean it. The moment I feel like the person singing doesn't know what he's singing about, or that it's only sung to sell a ticket, I loose interest. The Bowerbirds are no such group. It's a three piece but its tough to tell. Their music is so thick and lush that you expect them to come with a cast similar to The Decemberists but such is not the case. [...]

It's that time of year again, when you're probably already feeling a little ill, having gorged on the myriad best-ofs of the various music blogs you frequent - well tough, I'm posting mine. Was this year better than last year? I say yes. I certainly listened to more albums this year than last year, when it seemed to be mostly songs. There were a few disappointments in 2007, but many great new discoveries, most of which have made it here. It bears mentioning that my favourite song of this year is without doubt better than last year's. Anyway, the rules! [...]

It's the holidays, and the bunch of us are wandering our different parts of the world-- Elaine's somewhere in Nigeria, Charissa's moved to Portland, Jewlie is being mysterious somewhere in Texas, and I'm in Belfast en route back to Scotland for Christmas. We're making a lot of "vroom" and "whoosh" noises as we go by, but other than that, the Fabulist has been pretty quiet, and for that, we apologize. We offer up a big holiday sack of goodies to win back your love, in the form of some stuff we've been listening to lately. [...]

I'm sure this will end with me being accused of treason of some kind, but just to settle... I really do love Christmas and I love you all. Aside from being the time of the year where fantastic deals heavenly praises flood suburban malls Earth-other than being a time to look to the age-old decorations of pine and tinsel to remind us of desire generosity-Christmas has some economical historical significance too. It recalls a very special time... You don't hate [...]
What do Bowerbirds , Yeasayer , and Vampire Weekend have in common? They're all featured in EAR FARM's list of the top ten bands to "emerge" in 2007. How about Dead Confederate , The Secret Life Of Sofia , and Le Loup ?? Just a few bands to be on the lookout for in 2008. After the jump you'll find seven more bands that EAR FARM deems to be the rest of the top ten bands to "emerge" in 2007, followed by seven others to watch out for in [...]
We'll be doing things a little differently this year. You'll have a chance to hear from all of MOKB's contributors as well, so you won't have to just take my opinion as law. The best albums of the year versus albums I actually listened to a lot are two different things. The exclusion of LCD Soundsystem might raise some eyebrows, but I didn't listen to that album more than once or twice, and it'd be silly to throw in to please some of you. I listened to these albums the most because they are the [...]

New music dominated my 2007, I listened to more new releases than any other year in my life. With new CDs arriving daily, I struggled at times to keep up with the deluge, but was rewarded in the end with a wealth of quality music. Looking back, I was surprised how many artists on this list have appeared on my previous year-end lists, but this is my sixth favorite albums list at Largehearted Boy. After many revisions, here is my list of twelve favorite albums of 2007, along with free and legal mp3 and [...]
(as featured on This Week's Finds , Dec. 2-8) "Small Town Crew" - the Brunettes This one sounds pure and true and good--completely devoid of the "hmm, what's the best way to sound cool?" sensibility that mars some of the music one hears from U.S. and U.K. bands in particular. The Brunettes are from New Zealand, so that partially explains it. But the key here, to me, is Heather Mansfield's voice, which is heart-breaking if you listen carefully: gorgeous and imperfect, it's a little bit breathy, a little bit raspy, a little bit [...]

Sometimes you know a band is good from the first second you hear them. Sometimes it takes a couple listens before their music finally sinks in. When I first heard Bowerbirds and Kelley Stoltz they immediately won me over. Bowerbirds is a trio hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina. They play an uptempo blend of folk and indie rock. Their sound is large for them having only three players in the band. The songs encompass and swallow you whole leaving you tapping your feet and clapping your hands [...]
