Photos by G. Owl (from left to right: Chris Wyse, Dan Dinsmore, Jason Achilles Mezilis) California based rockers Owl came to New York last night and played the Bowery Electric on May 19, 2013. Moments before the show started, technical problems at the venue threatened the gig, but luckily the Bowery Electric was able to pull it together in time so that Owl could end our weekends on a rockin' note. If you are unfamiliar with Owl's music, you'd not leave one of their [...]

Joey Ramone , who died from lymphoma in 2001, would've been 62 this year. Here's details on his annual birthday bash: Following the tradition, this year's BASH will take place on Sunday, May 19th, the actual date of RAMONES' birthday. The evening will be hosted at the Bowery Electric , to allow for a more intimate "up-close-and-personal" setting. The venue is located on the Bowery and Joey Ramone Place, just one block from the location of the original CBGBs. [...]

New quartet Neonfaith describe themselves online as "just a few kids in Jamaica, Queens making music in the basement." What goes on down in that basement is anyone's best guess. By the looks of their recent video, "Escape," (see it here , song streaming below) it's a whole lot of thinking about what to do with the past. Answer: Google it and move on. Beneath a boilerplate Portishead beat and a twitchy dubstep production, the video shows NYC denizens passing around old school nightclub flyers and handing out walkie-talkies, moodily suggesting that technology could stand to cool [...]

The Harmonica Lewinskies aren't the kind of band you usually expect to find over here in NY. The funk and blues group channels Clinton-era sexual intrigue in their name, and hard-driving horn sections in tunes like 'The Ghost Pal Song' and 'Harlem River Valley.' Ok... so perhaps they're not the most serious guys in the world, but if second EP 'Salad Days' leaves you with anything... it's that these guys know how to f***ing play. And that's not something I can say about enough local bands. The band just ended a residency at Pianos - and almost won the [...]
![Review: Heaven's Basement @ Bowery Electric in New York [Live]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4862700_lg.jpg)
So in amongst my busy schedule I often get to watch some shows thankfully. These days though I pick and choose very carefully. There are a lot of invitations I get, so much so that I could literally be doing something every night. That said, half of the shows would be a forgettable and, whilst free drinks might sound to some like good bait, when you can get a six pack for ten bucks that dangling carrot, divided by time spent is just not worth it most of the time. I have made a conscious choice to now only go [...]

Joey's original "Chop Suey" lyrics Some of Joey Ramone's leather wardrobe and some of his other personal belongings are hitting the auction block. A custom-made black leather motorcycle jacket with zebra-skin pocket flaps, cuffs and epaulets is the star item in an online sale of the Queens-raised punk rocker's belongings. Also up for grabs are a pair of Joey's leather pants and some of his leather accessories, including a leather belt that looks like it's carrying ammo, a spiked wristband and fingerless gloves. All the [...]

Wayne Kramer Wayne Kramer and his wife Margaret are "The Beast and the Angel," a short film from Adam McKay and Shira Piven that appears as the third segment in "Lifecasters." Kramer is best known as former lead guitarist for 1960s Detroit-based revolutionary punk rock prototypes MC5.... In Kramer's story, we see him through archival footage leading MC5 in an incendiary version of their signature song "Kick Out The Jams" juxtaposed with new footage detailing his eventual spiral into drug addiction and subsequent incarceration for selling cocaine. "Wayne hit rock bottom [...]

John Jagos (a/k/a Brothertiger ) is a recent Brooklyn transplant from Athens, OH, where he wrought perfectly connived and joyfully-rendered electropop that drifts from yours speakers like a feather in the wind. "Bossa" is the latest Brothertiger offering, a sexy lo-fi synthpop number that evokes the joy of wanderlust whilst recalling the obtuse electro sound of Washed Out. Though not as fun as last year's "Be Yourself," hopefully "Bossa" is just a taste of what Jagos will do now that he's landed in Hipsterville.See him live at Bowery Electric on december 20 with New Jersey electronica masters Teeel [...]
