This list is a long time coming and a little later than I would have liked it to be, but I do not take lists lightly so I didn't want to rush it. For me 2011 was a great year in music. I have opened myself up and listened to a lot of stuff that I don't think I would have given a chance a couple of years ago. I also saw a fair amount of shows in 2011. Alexi Murdoch, The Decemberists, The Kills, James Vincent McMorrow and these are all albums I consider to have made up a [...]
On each of the next 20 days, we're going to revisit one of the best from our 2011 DC artists: Boy and Bear - Australian neo-traditionalist folk-rockers have drawn comparison to Mumford and Sons and Fleet Foxes for their buskery, vocal-harmonied jaunts of rootsy jangle and strum...on our RADAR last year with their debut EP With Emperor Antarctica, the Sydney-based band, founded by frontman Dave Hoskings and blessed with four gifted songwriters, have delivered in full with this exceptional full-length // Release : Moonfire (Out digitally, [...]
Following from The Best Music Videos of 2011, Christmas is All Around and Christmas Is All Around – The Mixtape (not end of the year lists, but something to check out..) posted a few days ago comes The Best Albums of 2011! 2011 was a great music year and resulted in some pretty good releases. So, to keep on making this intro short; [...]

YesYou: Helping to put Aussie indie pop all over the musical map Olivia Newton-John. Bee Gees. Air Supply. Helen Reddy. That's right. Helen Reddy . The woman who made "I Am Woman," "Delta Dawn" and "Angie Baby" No. 1 hits in the 1970s but whom no one ever seems to talk about today. My love affair with Australian singers goes way back to the '70s and early '80s heyday of acts that, for most people, now would be considered hopelessly uncool. By the mid '80s, [...]
Click image to download full album Sounds like: Boy and Bear, Fleet Foxes, Damien Rice "Husky - Dark Sea" What's so good? With so many bands and artists making folk music, it's refreshing to find someone that's doing it a differently. Husky make wonderful folk music, but with a twist. The Melbourne-based group have pieced together a number of musical backgrounds to develop an impossibly [...]
"Boy & Bear is happy. Boy & Bear is Tambourine. Boy & Bear is good for you." This is how the Boy & Bear describes themselves on their Facebook page, and I'd say it's a pretty accurate explanation, though there's much more to them than that. A folk rock quintet by way of Sydney, Australia, the group formed in 2009 and have been stealing hearts with their anthemic strains ever since. Most notably the band caught the attention of Mumford & Sons, [...]

Boy & Bear at Bowery Ballroom (10/19/11) So, I managed to get out Tuesday and Wednesday night and magically I'm still standing, though my blogging has fallen off a little as you can see. Technically, my CMJ started on Tuesday night, but it just so happened to be a show that was not part of CMJ both in actuality and in spirit. I spent the better part of Tuesday night at The Bell House watching a drop dead gorgeous performance by the lovely and charming Lisa Hannigan in a [...]
BOY AND BEAR AND COUNT FLEET ON MONDAY OCT. 10TH AT THE BOOTLEG THEATER, 2220 BEVERLY BOULEVARD, LOS ANGELES. 8:00PM/ $10/ 21+
Aussie band Boy and Bear are guaranteed to be the next biggest export Australia has up its sleeve.

I originally posted about Boy & Bear here . From the time I heard their single, Mexican Mavis I was obsessed. Their debut full length, Moonshine was released in August and I am in love. It exceeded my expectations. Their sound is big, with busy rhythms and soaring harmonies. Fantastic. I have an itch to see them live and I am in luck as they are currently on tour and in town next week . Check it. Moonshine [...]

Macquarie University, hidden away in Sydney suburbia, is not a place where you'd expect to find a hotbed of music talent. Over the past few years however, a number of acts have emerged from this [...]

My roommate introduced me to the band Boy & Bear this evening. He explained their sound as, "It's like Fleet Foxes and Mumford & Sons had a really cool kid..." I find that to be pretty accurate. Take a listen. - Joel Boy & Bear - "Feeding Line" Boy & Bear - "Lordy May"

Ever wonder what you are known for? What your brand is? I wonder if I am known as the half ass blogger/music video show producer. To all my fans who come here on a regular basis and follow us on Twitter and Facebook . Thank you! Here is one of my favorite posts of the month. Here is our August playlist! Zee Avi - Swell Window If you start selling an album at Starbucks [...]
Moonfire from Boy and Bear sounds like the folk-pop baby of Mumford and Sons and Coldplay. At once upbeat, chilled out, happy and melancholy, it's the perfect neutral mix of emotions for any time and place. There's a little of the familiar 90s sound from groups like Train, especially in songs like Golden Jubilee. Songs like these are musical chameleons that fit any mood or setting. The downside is that the album gets a little bland in places. This, however, is especially perfect for a Sunday morning. When a song hits a slow point, there's a banjo riff [...]
Click image to download full album Sounds like: Mumford and Sons, Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses "Boy and Bear - Feedling Line" What's so good? Expectations are difficult things. Boy and Bear's lauded and awarded EP With Emperor Antarctica was my first ever review on Indie Shuffle. Needless to say, I love the Sydney five-piece. When news hit that they were working on their first full-length album, I was initially over the [...]
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Boy and Bear Video: 'Feeding Line' Highlight: "The 'Feeding Line' video was devised and shot by our 'art guy' and dear friend, Jefferton James," Jake Tarasenko, bass player of Boy and Bear tells Spinner. "It's a narrative he had in mind for a long time, but was waiting for the right song to join it to; as it turns out, 'Feeding Line' was that song. It was shot both live and in front of a [...]
