(mp3): Boys' Life - Kill Someone

>> The news is going stale at this point, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mark the passing of beloved indie-pop luminaries The Answering Machine . The Manchester, England-based foursome posted a handwritten letter to its web site Monday morning disclosing that -- after six years -- its members have ceased making music collectively and under the The Answering Machine brand name. A vinyl release of the band's recently issued sophomore set Lifeline [ review here ] -- previously rumored to be announced this spring -- will now be realized as a [...]
:: Paul McCartney will be reissuing his post- Beatles catalog . I'm reminded of a great Simpsons moment. Cult deprogrammer: "My greatest achievement was getting Paul McCartney out of Wings ." Homer: "You idiot! He was the most talented one!" :: Nothing says metal like Every Time I Die and Cute Is What We Aim For ... or at least that's what former ETID and current CIWWAF drummer Mike Novak might have you believe. Also, feel free to make fun of the picture in the [...]

Artist: The Reptilian Album : Boy's Life Label: Count Your Lucky Stars Link: www.myspace.com/thereptilianba nd Words by: Kate Bradley From the word go, The Reptilian try very hard to attract your attention, from the deliberately obtuse song titles ('I'll Ram My Ovopositor Down Your Throat And Lay My Eggs In Your Chest But I'm Not An Alien!', 'So...What Are My Torso Options?') to the strange combination of screamo vocals and Foals-style light guitar patterns. There are some great musical ideas [...]
Here is part 2 of the revised and reexamined Buckets Full of Emo series (you can find part 1 here ). This one covers (roughly) 1994 and 1995 and reminds me of a funny conversation I had with my brother this past Friday evening that went something like this: Brother: Okay. There is this great band that you need to hear. Me: Who? Brother: Why do you post garbage? You should only write about good music. Me: Who is this band? Brother: Texas Is The Reason. Me: [...]
>> Have you been saving your sheckles for the big new release day tomorrow? We'll likely step out for the new Interpol set, hoping that Newbury Comics is offering it at a good discount. In our estimation, however, the biggest release is the new Spoon set, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga , which we've been listening to daily since the promo arrived. A truly superlative effort, wall-to-wall, song for song, with typically tight, deconstructed pop songs and really engaging production. Our pre-order arrived Saturday. It was packaged with the bonus disc Get Nice , [...]

I really don't want to count the number of times I've mentioned Boys Life on this blog when speaking of another band. I know it has to be quite a bit, which I apologize for, but they were pretty much the head of the class when it came to the whole Midwestern emo sound around here. Anyway, today's post is actually going to focus on them instead of using them in one of those "RIYL" spots. Boys Life were great, lets just get that out of the way. Their second and final album [...]

So once again, I go to do a post about a band that I was nuts about a few years ago, check the Hype Machine and what do I see? Me and Can you see the Sunset from the Southside once AGAIN , being the only two geeks online posting about them... Oh well, I think he posted just one song... So here's Boy's Life , part of the 90's Crank Records indie scene. They put out slow moving creepy landscape music [...]
After the overwhelming response to my last history of emo post, I thought I'd dig through my records and find a few more gems that I'd overlooked the first time. Here's another dozen. MP3 | Lincoln - Bench Warmer MP3 | Compound Red - Sticks MP3 | Indian Summer - Truman MP3 | [...]
So obviously I haven't been able to update the site with that much music recently cause of my new temp. job. However I thought a nice way to 'talk' to you in these days is by posting some morning songs. Here's your first few. Iron and Wine - Sleeping Diagonally Boys Life - Sleeping off Summer Can you tell what's been on my mind??
Tyke Chandler Series, Part Three picture courtesy of tyke chandler The sky has been milky white, and the cold air stings my lips, ice like bumble bee stings. I stand around outside when I have a moment to myself and I daydream of the biggest open skies I have ever seen, and what it was like to discover [...]
Um, So I think my Three the Hard Way series fizzled out last week sometime when I was super busy at work.. SO I figured I would end it with my 6 top "Emo" songs.. like I said before, I don't really think any of these bands would consider themselves emo. And I don't know if they fit into the genre but it doesn't matter. here are my 6: Capn Jazz - Planet Shhh Boys Life - Fire Engine Red [...]
