Here’s a brand new track from the reunited Medicine entitled “Long As The Sun”. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to hear this. My expectations have been clobbered, regurgitated, and set free. The forthcoming album, To The Happy Few , is due August 6 through Captured Tracks. Download this jam through the Soundcloud player.

“Time Baby 2” is simultaneously one of the most widely heard Medicine songs...

When you hit play on disc one of Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming , the new album by M83, you know you’re in for something big. The album’s intro opens with a rising ambiance intercut with an arpeggio of synthesizers. A frail monologue can be heard among the rising action before we hear M83’s mastermind, Anthony Gonzalez yell out “I carry on!” His voice sounds like it has never before, a commanding lead that wails into the night sky. The rest of that opening track is handled by Zola Jesus whose chilly tenor gives the album a stately and [...]

Captured Tracks wins again. The best little label on Earth is reissuing Medicine’s Shot Forth Self Living , and one of my all-time favorite and most influential records, The Buried Life . You will never hear anyone making guitar sounds like Medicine did on these two records, ever. Think of it this way; if Kobe Bryant is My Bloody Valentine and Medicine is LeBron James who wins in a one-on-one half-court game? ( via )

It's interesting how many great current bands have sampled or involved Medicine 's Brad Laner into their albums (Caribou, Serena-Maneesh, and M83 to name a few). I mean, here's a group that people blatantly ignored, despised or scoffed at for being "too noisy", yet you will never hear a single complaint about Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine or JAMC. But when Dan Snaith decides to sample your guitar noise that speaks volumes about the lasting impression, not the critical opinion, of the music. For fans [...]

Time for a little bit of aural time travel. Let's look back, reflect, and contemplate... what were we listening to one year ago? Listen to the August 2010 Mix and find out. "Midnight City" is the first single out of Anthony Gonzalez aka M83's upcoming "Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming". The double-album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Mars Volta, Goldfrapp, Nine Inch Nails) and features guest appearances by Zola Jesus, Brad Laner (Medicine) and Morgan Kibby. Anthony notes: "I think it is a reflection of my [...]

Today's a truly magical occurrence when all the stars align in order to give you the creeps all day long: Friday the 13th. While many of us are filled with dread about the bad luck that could come our way, and the virgins of the world are fearing getting lost in the woods near an abandoned summer camp, the 13th doesn't have to be so scary (at least while the sun is up). So, to get you through this most diabolical of days, we've assembled some non-frightening tunes to scare away the Boogeyman. Our newest Friday Mixtape features new music [...]
Brad Laner probably has his name thrown around with Medicine far too often. While the old shoegase troupe had a decent following, Brad's been busy working on other project ever since. He's readying a new 123 where he's accompanied by the Norwegian group Joensuu 1685 , and the first listen we have is remarkable. There's a slight fuzz on the vocals, knifing guitar harmonies, and an element of darkness that he's added to the cover of this classic Chicago track. For those of us with a nostalgic pop leaning, this [...]

And so another week goes by. Our overrated and overstated hype guards were really blowing it this week, what with Lupe Fiasco sounding like a Linkin Park on Colbert, Death Cab enlisting Shepard Fairey to wheat paste platitudes to distract from their awkward music, and Tyler passing up on receiving a coveted "Best New Music" sticker. What relevance any of this has on our lives will only be known years from now but let us relish first in what this week has brought us in no particu...
