On Oct. 10, Fat Possum is issuing a split single featuring a song from Purity Ring. But the B-Side is what intrigues us: It's "Peach Wedding," the first new material we've heard from one of our favorites, Montreal's Braids. It's got a typically hazy backdrop, and Braids' uproarious group vocals, before it breaks down into a noise sketch at the end. It's not going to make you forget "Plath Heart," but it's damn fine all the same. You can hear the song at Pitchfork.

Just got a few listens in of Freelance Whales work on one of my favourite songs of the summer, Rose Mary Stretch by Pepper Rabbit. Several Chicago rockers are banding together at Lincoln Hall on Thursday, Sept. 1, for raise money for Girls Rock! Chicago . Any news from the Purity Ring camp is good news. Today they've dropped their third single, "Belispeak," as well as news of an upcoming 7" with Braids on Fat Possum due out in October. Their most recent effort gives us a little more of the same, which is a very good thing. The reverberating vocals, pitched every which way, deliciously bouncy bass, and highly syncopated synths floating on top combine to form what's been termed "future pop."
