Joe writes: While looking through old possessions in my mum's house, I came across these Bran Van 3000 beer mats which reminded me about their awesome but odd debut single Drinking In LA. Odd because there's a DJ talking over the intro about giving away Bran Van 3000 tickets. Awesome because it's such a tune, with that fabulously loose groove, a singalong chorus to rival Tubthumping, and a lyric which captures the mindset of wasting time getting drunk when you could be getting famous. Bran Van 3000 are Canadian and they're still touring apparently but the rest of their career [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Pop Culture , Music Appreciation Getty Once upon a time, music fans had to actually pay for all their music, a phenomenon that peaked in the 1990s. The explosion of alt-rock left major labels awash in cash and on the hunt for "the next Nirvana ." A ton of terrible music was released in the process, much of which sold by the bucket load thanks to the labels tendency [...]
The club last night was amazing craic. It felt like a totally old school night. There were loads of original Gigantic faces making tons of great requests, plus loads of other regulars making great suggestions too. It makes such a nice change from people asking for shite. Big ups to Nik for getting Janelle Monae and Robyn on, Donal for the Gameboy/Gamegirl and Late Of The Pier shouts, Ursula for Prince and Snoop Dogg , Davina for Missy Elliot , [...]

Montreal, Quebec has always been at the pinnacle of arts and entertainment in Canada, if not in all of North America. Aside from deliciously artery-clogging amounts of poutine (the secret is in the fries) on every street corner, a hearty smorgasbord of lively bars and pubs, and some of the prettiest people on the planet, the city is inundated throughout the year with various festivals and events. In fact, there are so many festivals in Montreal that it's hard to keep track and even locals may be desensitized as to "what's going on this weekend." It would be [...]

Music festivals have come and gone in Canada, but one which seems to have taken hold and established an identity is Montreal’s Osheaga Music and Arts Festival . Conveniently scheduled right at the end of July, and picturesquely located on its own island by the Saint Lawrence River, it brought fans from across the country and elsewhere up close and personal with nearly 100 bands and DJs. It’s not quite as big as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, or Coachella yet, but Osheaga is well on its way to becoming a preferred summer destination. I lost track of the number of times artists [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Jason Merritt, Getty Images Though the ticket read Osheaga , it could just as easily have been called the Eminem Show as a record 38,000 people packed Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau July 29 to watch Marshall Bruce Mathers III play only his third show of 2011, a 90-minute greatest hits set punctuated by a tribute to the late, great Nate Dogg . If you were listening to music in the 90s, you will not doubt remember the track "Drinking In LA." It was one of those songs that was everywhere . You may not remember the song is by a group of Montrealers called BranVan 3000 . Back in the 1997, "Drinking In LA" exploded and suddenly a bunch of friends who had been calling the project an "electronic music collective" were suddenly touring the world and poised to become one of those cross-genre supergroups. This tsunami of success continued. BV3 got signed to [...]
Today marks the return of one of my favourite features, THE CLUB (house music) . A weekly dose of your favourite progressive house, deep house, tech house, minimal. . Each week I'll bring you a selection of anything from heavy bangers that make the dance floor jump, to those chilled out deep vibes that just [...]

The organizers had too much music on their plates this year that it could not be contained in merely 2 days, a third day had to be summoned. The 6th edition of this now 3 day festival goes down @ Parc Jean-Drapeau July 29th, 30th and 31st. Last year's lineup was pretty much unbeatable. Expectations were high for this [...]
