Some shock, some simply please, but in the end, you’ll be glad to have met them. So if this doesn't make your weekend awesome, you have no soul. [...]
The haunting, surrealist movies by filmmaker David Lynch always have the perfect moody musical accompaniment - and Pittsburgh ensemble Silencio picks up on that big time. The group plays World Cafe Live tonight, performing a selection of musical moments from Erasherhead to Mullholland Drive, from which the group borrowed its name. The giant red curtain ... For Radiohead , as with so many bands formed in high school, it is the team that matters first and foremost, in no small part because of the tight and adept skills each band member has developed throughout their co-evolution and ongoing collaboration. Guitarist and composer Ed O'Brien is celebrated for his distinctive use of effects pedals, and for the harmonies he brings to help create and sustain Radiohead's rich, layered sound; the versatility of drummer Phil Selway has been a key component of their evolution as a modern band, especially as they have moved on to adopt [...]

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (MCT) -- ATLANTA - In the grand tradition of Tift Merritt, Melissa Ferrick and Allison Moorer, Brandi Carlile isn't a big radio presence. Isn't a household name. And, frankly, isn't that easy to classify as a musical act except for that catch-all of "alt-country." But in the past eight years she's solidified a successful career with a grass-roots approach to touring, meaty songs and associations with marquee producers such as Rick Rubin and T Bone Burnett. Carlile's...

Oh dear. A rush of goosebumps, the welling of tears in the eyes. That moment when you become aware of a special connection between you and a song, and all external noises and worries go quiet. That moment when every ounce of focus - heart, soul and mind - is between you and the song, and you have the sublime pleasure of reveling in its beauty. This a capella performance of "Oh Dear" by Brandi Carlile and her band worked that magic on me when I watched this ACL performance sometime last year. Everything about it is perfect [...]

After releasing its self-titled debut in April, the Lumineers have seen its music showcased in television shows and commercials and have played numerous sold-out shows across the U.S. While the band's open-hearted melodies and simple acoustic folk sound immediately drew comparisons to bands like Mumford & Sons, The Civil Wars and The Avett Brothers, the Lumineers have crafted its own style, which is evident in tis first single "Ho Hey," a bluegrass-infused folk-pop number. The Lumineers perform with Brandi Carlile at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Friday, June 29.

There is no way to describe the incomparable group and the mass effect they have had globally, both with their music and their strong ... Continue reading

A light auditory turn for Ms. Carlile's fourth record, Bear Creek is rife with touching sentiments of lovelorn feelings and youth. It takes a particular kind of musical craftsman to be able to work within the confines of the country/pop/rock genre whilst simultaneously tweaking each new album to sound stylistically different without betraying the "rules" of the genre. Brandi Carlile has managed this sometimes impossibly difficult feat with her previous three efforts, even though her last, Give Up the Ghost, was just too dark and thick with hard-edged amelodic tendencies to really get behind. Her latest,...
