Described as techno without the technology, but their lo-fi minimalism offers so much more than can be described through genre labels.
I'm always up for a weird tune and this !K7 Records single skews toward just that. Berlin-based Brandt Brauer Frick pairs up with Jamie Lidell, only to get remixed by fellow Germanic duo Mouse on Mars. Experimental electronic trio Brandt Brauer Frick recently recorded a live performance of previous single “Plastic Like Your Mother” when they played at the Gloria Theater in Cologne, Germany early last month. Drawn from their newly released album Miami (which was distributed by !K7 Records here in the states), the group brought along Om’Mas Keith who provided vocals on the album version of this track for this particular show. Check out the retina scorching stage lights and copious amounts of wired circuitry in the video below. As a bonus, check out [...]

In this new remix from Mouse on Mars , the German duo bring a colourful spin to a cut from Brandt Brauer Frick 's album Miami . Neither Jamie Lidell or the boys in Brandt Brauer Frick seem particularly keen on doing things traditionally. So fittingly, Lidell's two guest slots on the latter's album from March this year were stand out cuts, with his lean, soulful vocal wrapping perfectly around the twisting concert hall techno [...]

As spring begins to cycle into summer, we look to our trend-streaming leaders for entertainment and thrills of any sort. We saw Tyler the Creator taking selfies with Letterman on their televised performance of "Rusty", Vampire Weekend's Modern Vampires Of The City release date delays on account of "unanticipated delays" gave time for front bro Ezra Koenig to reflect and compare N-Dubz to The Beatles, while Rick Ross's "U.O.E.N.O"-rape-lyrics-gate scand...

German trio Brandt Brauer Frick craft a twisted, bleak trip with their third album Miami, presenting their imaginary version of the Florida city. Their sound, an eclectic mixture of classical, techno and many other genres, is like nothing else out at the moment, yet their eclecticism tends to get the better of them. [...]
By Robert Freeman March 28, 2013 In the terrifying collision of man and machine that is twenty-first century electronic music, ‘performers’ are disappearing behind the cut and paste, loops and samples. Emphasis has been put on making the machines sing ,whilst faces behind them exist only as an extension of the instrument. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in dance music, and nowhere is dance music more prevalent than Berlin. Renowned for an ability to get a song out of a couple of spoons, vocals on Brandt [...]

Berlin's Brandt Brauer Frick captured the duality of their music quite well with the title of their 2011 LP, Mr. Machine , a set recorded with a full orchestral ensemble. Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer, and Paul Frick re-create dance music with woodwinds and strings instead of samplers and synths, making computer music with human tools. The German trio stand largely alone on their new LP, Miami , stripping back some of the florid layers that came with the ensemble on that last set in favor of some vocal features, resulting in an archly dramatic set of compositions. [...]

By Matt Jones March 11, 2013 When 6 Music ’s Lauren Laverne spoke through my speakers of a band of classically-trained German musicians making house and hip-hop using only ‘traditional’ instruments, my ears perked up. Brandt Brauer Frick is the German trio in question, and the unprecedented hype about their third album is widespread. Arguably their most high-profile yet, Miami includes collaborations with soul singer Jamie Lidell , hip-hop artist and producer Om’Mas Keith and German electronic musician Gudrun Gut . Even for [...]

IT'S very easy these days to end up cooing over the work of bedroom producers, creating sweeping soudscapes and dance epics sat alone at a computer. Turns out, what they do is the easy option. Because trio of German composers Brandt Brauer Frick have made name for themselves producing techno without the technology - using a massive compliment of unplugged, orchestral instruments to create intricate dance music. Piano stabs, string plucks, subtle horns and vocal inflections are used to create a human rhythm machine on their third album Miami, which without the prior knowledge of their orchestral [...]
