![[MILESTONE] The Burning Ear’s 1000th post! A Celebration Mix!](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3526263_lg.jpg)
Wow. Another mind-bending milestone in the TBE saga. 1000 is a big number but in the grand scheme of things it will only be the tip of the iceberg. Running this site for the past 28 months has been an honor and privilege and we all look forward to dropping more sweet jams for a long time to come. For now lets celebrate with a little mixtape I put together below. There is a theme in there somewhere... There are some potential changes to the site underway but until I get a breather from work I won't be [...]
:: If nothing else, Manchester Orchestra seems to at least be having a good time in the studio . :: Liam Gallagher might not have been super pumped about Oasis splitting initially, but 'In hindsight it was the best thing that’s ever happened , because we’re free to do whatever we want." I bet that's what Garfunkel said, too. :: Carl Newman lays out the real story for The New Pornographers ' name . Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with that one movie he made in college. [...]

Swarm of Bats is the real deal. An onslaught of sight and sound invading at least four of the five senses. Loud, noisy, raucous rock and roll with no respect for conventional norms. With no concern for album sales, downloads, critical acclaim or what anyone else thinks, Swarm of Bats is what it is because it IS. Love it or hate it, take it or leave it. - Myk Porter Get the lowdown on what happened to Brandtson and the new [...]

After a promised release over a year ago and a then a new band forming in April, memebers of Brandtson has finally formed a new band ... Swarm Of Bats "so i'm in a new band with most of the members of my old band. we've recorded some new songs, check it out: swarm of bats we're planning to release a cd and 123, hopefully in the near future [...]

Some of the Brandtson members are forming a new band, no name yet, but some songs have been recorded... From The Decapolis message board: ok, here we go... like the myspace update says, four of us (me, myk, adam & matt) have started a new project. not sure on a name yet, but we've written a handful of songs that we plan to play out and record this summer. we're beyond stoked to be making music again, and one3rd will be happy to know [...]
:: The vinyl reissue of Brandtson's Dial In Sounds is now available from Dreamover Records . :: Sometimes band members argue. Sometimes they fight. And sometimes they're arrested for allegedly making death threats against one another. :: The biopic about Tupac Shakur could be on some shaky legal ground . :: The BRIT Awards happened. Yawn. :: O'Death recently joined We Vs. The Shark on stage. And Music Slut has a nice photo . [...]
Another week, another mix with lots of new music ranging from electro-pop to country. If you are still partying from the events earlier in the week or are just ready for a great weekend, this music will get you through. Enjoy. Asobi Seksu - Familiar Light De Rosa - Nocturne For An Absentee We Swim You Jump - Sparks Fade Out Brandtson - Earthquakes and Sharks The Whitest Boy Alive - Island Favours For Sailors - I Dreamt That I Dreamt That [...]

I'm getting all nostalgic now that I've found out about Dreamover Records re-releasing Dial in Sounds , the seminal pre-dance-punk Brandtson record. The Dreamover folks said they hope to have the vinyl out sometime in February, but then they said "these things have a way of slowing down." Not too encouraging. As a small but very relevant aside, does anyone know the official status of Brandtson? I kept hearing they broke up. But I never could find any word one way or the other. Maybe [...]

The following is a transcribed sermon from Rev. Matthew DeBenedictis. For years we have been wandering around this desert. Don’t fool yourself, w've been lost, looking for rock and roll saviors, prophets and stars to point us on any form of a way home — or at least to point us in a direction where rock and roll makes sense again. But now we have a true path to follow, we have words of wisdom to be our guide to the valley. We are a religion. I know many people don’t want to hear this, [...]

Photography by Juchise It's not everyday I have a super-duper idea for the Tsuru Corporation Supernation Exclamation Celebration... but finally one was launched into the world like a the most gratifying burp after chugging a 2-liter jug o' Root Beer! Yay! As you know, I'm quite the mixtape fan , I've been making them since I owned audio equipment. From recording them off the radio to building them from my record collection, to sharing them from the mass amounts of music that comes my way, they have [...]
This is for my Brother, Isaiah... who I had promised to post this mix a while back. For those of you who do not know who Autumn is, she is a very special person who I hold very dear to my heart (besides my two daughters, there is no one closer). I try to make mixes for her whenever I can and here is one from a few months back. Blaqk Audio – Cities Of Night [mp3] Brad Walsh – Do It In The Street [mp3] [...]

Brandtson were scheduled to release an album "Turn Me On Dead Man" on July 8th. The album is still in the works but has been delayed. Below is a note from the band. We're horribly sorry to break our long silence with the news that we unfortunately WILL NOT be releasing 'Turn Me on Dead Man' on July 8th as previously planned. We do plan on releasing the album. We do not have a definitive time line. We miss all of your gorgeous faces. [...]

Kara!
Here are some good songs that are revolving on my i-pod/itunes these days, and that I'd recomend you check out for a good Friday afternoon/evening. Also, not all of the ones featured will be mp3's because most of the time I only include mp3's over lesser known bands rather than the famous ones that everyone's already downloaded or bought teh album of. It makes since that way, anyways, because those bands and artists are the ones with the big name record producers. Anyways, these mp3's in this post, like all the others, will be up for a week. The rest [...]

A recent conversation with my friend Chris led to the realization that he only had Brandtson's debut album, which he enjoyed quite a bit, but hadn't heard of their two follow-ups. This set me off on a long tangent about how much their album Send Me a Signal pretty much defined my high school days. Their song "Escapist" was my favorite song for most of high school and this last weekend I jumped back on a Brandtson kick for the first time in probably three years. Most of you may find Brandtson to be a bit emo, but [...]

Since we originally ran this essay when we had no readers, we are going to try it now. Eat Shit Hitch by Molly Lambert "Hey world. Women aren't funny." "Brandy Alexander" - Feist See: Slower to get it, more pleased when they do, and swift to locate the unfunny—for this we need the Stanford University School of Medicine? And remember, this is women when confronted [...]

The holiday season has come and gone, leaving us with a brand new year to explore. There are still a few of your neighbors with Christmas lights hanging up and probably a couple of people still jamming some Christmas tunes. However, much like the credit cards in your wallet, our patience and holiday spirits have been officially maxed out. It's now that time of the year where students roll their eyes about having to resume class, a long sigh is released by those going back to work, and the Holiday Season takes the backseat for 10 months. [...]
Well, not really. I've only been there once, but I liked it. This song that I'm posting, by the truly awesome Brandtson, is all about the state that knows how to party (in the city, city of Compton, for example). This song "Earthquakes & Sharks", is a 3-minute pop song all about the dangers of living of Cali - Earthquakes and sharks to start us off, If Chupacabras ain't enough, Black [...]
