Some of our regularly readers might already be familiar with indiependant Canadian label Distorted Disco , home to artists like GERMANY GERMANY or Sutja Gutiérrez , of which we already posted some great tunes. Now the label has released its very own Christmas Compilation, containing songs of the ones named above and some other artists signed to Distorted Disco. Download three of our favourites below or head over to the DD page to get the entire thing for free. This compilation makes christmas even better! mp3 | BRAVESTATION • white wolves [...]
Well, considering Hanukkah passed nearly two weeks ago, the rest of the Christmas holidays are just an added bonus to me. Another gift handed down to ye is the gift of free music --- in the... Listen At BIRP!

This year we wanted to do something special for the readers. Instead of asking for remixes, new songs or interviews full of badly phrased questions we thought to ourselves, "Selves, what's one thing we love?" Obviously, something involving the Steelers or Bayern Munich wasn't really an option, but our unashamed love of Hall & Oates was one we thought we could leverage. End result, we asked bands to record Hall & Oates covers, hoping anyone would say yes. In the end, we did ok... we got about 11 songs in time for today's launch, but we also have [...]

Here is another installment on the best of 2010: Singles. Its the singles from #21-30. As mentioned before some of the singles will be based from the Singles Chart on this site. This list will have one song that is in French and tracks that were out in 2009 but made a impact this year. And of course there is the fourth of fifth Glee track. Check out the list. Bravestation - White Wolves ( #1 on Chart [...]
Inspired by the blogs who have taken the time to mention their favorite new bands from 2010, I figured I'd take a shot at remembering the year and which artists came out of nowhere to impress these ears. Now, "Fave New Artists" for this purpose means new to my ears, as I'm sure many of these bands have existed pre-2010, I just hadn't come across them yet. Hopefully, this list will also serve as a "keep your eye on these bands in 20113. - Yellow Ostrich . NY based Alex Schaaf making bedroom lo-fi [...]

Just a quick disclaimer here; for those new to herohill we only cover Canadian content so my favorites list - note: not best-of, as that kind of debate is a bit pointless - is kind of like the cast of SCTV or peameal bacon. If it had a sweater, it would be warm and woolly and if it had a favorite sport, it would be curling (or lacrosse?). One quick point of interest; I opted to omit a few bands that offered up killer EPs AND LPs to give a bit more variety in the lists, but overall it's [...]

Talking Heads' "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)" , from the band's 1983 US breakthrough Speaking In Tongues , is one of those songs that brings about a warm wave of feelgood across the body every time it hits the eardrums. It's the perfect bad day antidote, its giddy, galloping melody and David Byrne's charmingly scatter-brained analysis of finding true love ("Home is where I want to be/ But I guess I'm already there/ I come home, she lifted up her wings/ I guess that this must be the place...") managing to hit [...]
Snow covers the ground this morning and with it comes a new list of things to do and check off. This week's The Neighbourhood Mixtape makes you want to roll back under the covers like a big, toasty cinnamon bun . The collection features Make Your Exit , Eiyn Sof , Bravestation , Little Girls and Heartbeat Hotel . From Australia, check out Tame Impala 's reflective video for their single "Expectations" below. So after much deliberation and soul searching, I have finally managed to put some order into my top ten tracks of 2010. The top five pretty much picked themselves! I hope you have as much fun listening as I did compiling them. #10 Bravestation - White Wolves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =uHPxRrhgGr8 #9 Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =vf9lvU8_JUo #8 Saint Saviour - Woman Scorned http://www.youtube.com/profile ?feature=iv&annotation_id=anno tation_744814&user=oursaintsav iour [...]
Earlier this year, I called Bravestation a band to watch . Their 2010 EP is one of the coolest finds of the year. If you haven't listened to it yet, you should get on that since it's a free download . The band just uploaded a video of them covering the Talking Heads classic "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)". The band's sound is perfect for this cover, and I think they did a wonderful job shaping it into their own mold. Check it out: [...]

It's time for another edition of "What's Your Muse?" The concept is simple: We ask a band/artist to choose a song that means a lot/the most to them. Then, they record and send us a video of themselves describing why they chose the song. Think of it like a collaborative video mixtape project. In this edition, we hear from Bravestation. By Mike Dunn [...]
Below, you can check out the very first Mixtape Muse podcast. Feel free to download it and share it with your friends. Background info, or a preface, for this podcast can be found at the start of the podcast, so I won't waste your time by typing a bunch of words here. In regards to my production and editing, it's not the best -- hell, you can ever hear a motorcycle/car go by in the distance if you listen closely -- but it's raw and honest. If you dig it, share it! Lost in some austere and freezing cold corner of the musical frontier, Bravestation tap the textural angularity of Foals and the wide open arrangements of Local Natives. The aesthetics drive to the center of something unrequited, in the chorus represented as critical metaphor, "you're missing the rain/you're wishing for rain," while not necessarily promising resolution or the hint of hope on the
This week we have a new number #1. Its not guess it happens to be Ruby Coast . They just released a EP which is a preview for their upcoming full-length album. This week is the final installment of Broken Social Scene's All To All remixes and this time its the "Spirit If" remix. A new Sufjan Stevens track was released and its more of a electronica side. Two new debuts are Belle and Sebastion and Owen Pallett . Check out this week's chart. [...]

Went to the Live Lounge on September 10th. The bands playing were: Bravestation Dora Alexander There were other two acts but I forgot their names. I finally got to stay for a whole Bravestation set. Last time I didn't get to see them due to time constraints. Dora Alexander is a new [...]
Happy Labour Day Weekend! Its definitely the end of summer and people will be back in school or work. This week's number one track which is a way to kick off summer is Tashtook's track called End Of Summer. Listen to it and have a feel for it. Land Of Talk drops to #2 and this week the music video for Quarry Hymn is out. Holding steady is Broken Social Scene's All To All (remix) and this week the fourth remix has been out and its the Jojoflores and Rom remix. While there are [...]

The four piece Bravestation from Toronto has given us the gift of their EP "2010" for free via their bandcamp page. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, just take it and "color up your life". Since my music loving roots are planted firmly in Miami, this band reminds me of the days when I used to go see Modernage (something about the melodies/vocals) or ANR (something about the drums in the track "Colour Us With Youth") once a [...]

When I get an emaill comparing a band to the likes of The National, Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend amongst others, the hype mostly far outweighs the substance. However, in the case of Toronto-based Bravestation, it's a justified claim. The diversity of styles on the current EP certainly pay homage to all of the above, though that's by no means meant to belittle them as this EP is sublime from start to finish. Bands like these symbolise all that is good in the world of new music, being [...]
![[Introducing] – Bravestation](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2781548_lg.jpg)
I might complain about the amount of shite that gets sent to me, but I do equally gush when something magical turns up in my inbox, as I'm sure you know already if you've been reading this for more than a week. Nick, the dude in charge of Bravestation sent me their music almost a month ago now and I let it sit (don't ask me why) until now. The band is a four-piece from Toronto, Canada and have recently released their second EP titled "20103. Even though this is an "Introducing" piece they've had a decent amount [...]
